Golf Race Car Concept
This is a concept and we like it.
Will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0 liter four banger pushing 330hp and 302 lb-ft of torque through a dual clutch transmission powering the front wheels. Plenty of power with the gutted Golf chassis. Custom wheels were fitted to those widened fenders. Keep in mind the chassis is wider by a whopping 15.75 inches! Volkswagen is planning to test this concept in upcoming race TCR International Series in Austria.
Aerodynamics were added by the way of carbon fiber front diffuser and a massive rear spoiler. Safety gear inside assures protection for the driver via racing seats, safety cell, safety fuel cell and a spec’d rollcage.
We sure hope this concept makes it into production so that all willing and capable racers will have an affordable race car option.

O'gara Coach La Jolla Caffeine and Gasoline
Words & Photo by Erik Ruggels
Symbolic Motors Cars and Coffee had become a San Diego staple for folks that proudly exclaimed #iLOVEeuros. Every few months or so hundreds of car fans would descend on the Symbolic Service Center in Sorrento Mesa to grab a fleeting glimpse of cars they’d only read about on blogs. Hell, depending on the vintage, they may have only read about them in car magazines back in high school. But only if they’re old petrol heads like us. We digress. Symbolic C&C filled a little bit of the massive gaping hole left by Irvine Cars and Coffee, the event that started it all.
O’Gara Coach picked up the modern side of Symbolic Motors, and Symbolic International spun off to handle the more classic stuff. On the surface the only effect this had on car fans is the thinning out of the La Jolla showroom to focus mostly on modern motors. Classic and vintage forms of rolling architecture made their way over to the Service Center in a new space better suited to showcase their breathtaking lines. Sweet, the separation of the two parts makes a lot of sense from a prospective customer standpoint, but us? We just want to see awesome stuff. We eagerly awaited word from anyone, especially Spencer Berke, of whether the event Symbolic started would continue. Seeing something as rare and ridiculous as the childhood poster fodder Bugatti EB110 and EB110SS in a showroom was rare, but driving along a reasonably quite road, the noise, the pops, the smell, there’s no comparison.
The show had to go on, and on it did. Word spread O’Gara would be hosting Caffeine and Gasoline this morning. We arrived to find much better donuts and coffee than before (seriously, so many options, like a dozen flavors!) and a food truck! And Spencer Berke who generously demonstrated O’Gara’s new Lamborghini Huracane Exhaust. Our verdict? Much better than stock and certainly on par with the others we have heard.
Cars began to fill the parking lot and it ended up being a veritable who’s who of Euro brands. Pretty much the entire Bentley and Rolls Royce lineup, a handful of Porsche’s (including a GT2!), Lamborghinis from the Gallardo onward, and tons of other cars with spades of character like the cleanest 900 hp Toyota Supra you ever did see.
While weather reports called for high 60’s and low 70’s the fog sure burned off real quick encouraging us to head in to the new Symbolic International display space. Where do we begin?! Porsche Carrera GTS, 906, or a Turbo from the 70’s or 90’s tickle your fancy? How about a Lamborghini Muria or Countach? A bright blue Bugatti EB110 or red Alfa Romeo Giuletta Sprint? Symbolic International has it all, even a Ferrari or two. All housed in a clean contemporary space with art adorning the walls reinforcing the rolling sculpture aspect of the incredible automobiles gracing the showroom floor.
No donuts and coffee inside, it was way to clean in there. Though the folks at Symbolic International were kind enough to set up a pretty trick gaming rig, we had a difficult time focusing on it with this darn EB110 in the way :).
We’ll definitely be back when the next O’Gara Caffeine and Gasoline is announced and look forward to watching it grow to the spectacle that was the last Symbolic Cars and Coffee. To be fair, that was the first outing for the Huayra in San Diego and a bit insane. On second thought, this is better, more relaxed, refined, and better food. Keep doing what you’re doing O’Gara, and thank you for having everyone out!

Fastivus 2015 Coverage
If there’s one premier Volkswagen track event of the entire year, it is without any lengthy consideration Fastivus. Eugene Lee has been putting the event on for more than a decade and there isn’t a better, safer, funner way to expose your VW to the track. After spending a few years out at the Willow Springs complex, Fastivus returned to the location of Fastivus 2009, Fontana Speedway.
Back in ’09 we ran the infield configuration, which definitely benefits all cars with a slight preference towards those set ups that favor handling over power. This year? The Roval. With the promise of banked NASCAR left turns, always left, and peak speeds in the 130+ range for cars that could handle it, Fastivus was definitely taking things up a notch. Preregistrations tripled, and social media buzzed as tantalizing tidbits began to leak. In addition to the Roval configuration, Volkswagen of America intended to bring Tanner Faust out for a drift demonstration, and the heap of prizes grew to $54,000.
We spent the weekend at Fontana not long ago for Bimmerfest, and the two events couldn’t be more different. Where Bimmerfest focuses on static displays and a massive history of cars filling every parking spot imaginable, yet a small percentage of attendees attempting the track, with this years event being the first at a track with a track day. Fastivus has spent the last decade plus compelling owners to take their cars out under the yellow flag.
Many of the drivers we talked to were tracking their cars for the very first time, tons of them were strictly casual track day sorts who only manage to track at Fastivus once a year. Less professional weekend warriors and more every day owners. The result is one of the most down to earth and generally happy paddock environments we’ve experienced at any European event.
Stroll up to James Strawson and his E85 powered MkIV .:R32 and he’ll gladly provide you line advice. Ask Tyler Setterstrom about that crazy 2,800 lb MkVII GTI and he’ll walk you through every bolt of the stripped interior. It is a one of a kind event that USA VW fans are very lucky to have as their own.
Run groups went off mostly without a hitch. Speed Ventures did a fantastic job of separating folks by ability and speed. Each initial session received a download after where anything unusual was corrected and subsequent sessions saw the benefit of a pre-grid to help eliminate traffic on the infield. There was a few instances of contact with the wall at speed, a few blown engines, but those total less than the fingers on your hand and are a remarkably small number given 225 plus cars participating.
Heading into the vendor area we were captivated by the sheer diversity of cars. A VW Fast Back truck conversion with American V8 power in the bed, the RWB Beetle, all those incredible MkI golfs still soldering on today as a testament to the most successful german car of all time. Volkswagen brought out all four generations of the .:R32/Golf R as well as a Amorock twin turbo which pretty much no one even realized. Sure tons of us were stoked to see the Amorck, it’s an incredible truck, but who actually noticed this example was powered by VW’s twin turbo 2.0 TDI putting out over 300 lb ft of torque and over 30 mpg on the highway. Basically it’s VW’s version of the Hilux.
At lunch everyone mobbed the infield to watch Tanner Foust tear through set after set after set of tires in his 900 hp drift Passat. Each tire change accompanied with a passenger change for those folks who were chosen at random for a ride along. We had the chance to chat with Tanner in the cold pits while waiting for our run group to start and he was incredibly personable and generously provided us guidance on our driving lines. In addition to the drift demonstration, Tanner also took folks out in the MkVII Golf R during several run groups. If you were passed by a brand new blue Golf R with “Golf R” on the rear plate, that was him. Hopefully you followed his line for a lap like we did to really learn how the experts do it.
At the end of the day we were delighted to see so many folks we know up on the stage receiving trophies for best in class driving, like James Strawson who was the fastest VW around the track at 1:54.865, and many others winning prizes from that insane grab bag of goodies. If you missed the event this year you’ll need to make sure you add it to your calendar for 2016 the moment Eugene sets a date. You can be certain BIG EURO will have it added to our calendar!
The camaraderie is without compare, you won’t find a more affordable or frankly safe introduction to track driving for the first time, the prizes are the most incredible for a raffle who’s only entry cost is bringing a VW and parking it, and where else can you actually walk up and talk to the decision makers at a major German car maker about what plans they have going forward. Fastivus is an event without equal for casual or nutty Volkswagen owners and we cannot wait until next year. Saturday went by way too fast!
Rilber Li brought his RilbertyWalk widebody Audi A4 Avant to feature with BIG EURO / iLOVEeuros.com. Definitely drew a crowd.

HRE Wheels Open House 2015 Coverage
Words by Lon Mok | Photos by Erik Ruggels & Lon Mok
HRE Wheels is globally recognized as one of the top wheel brands in the world. They are among the small list of A-list wheel companies. The major difference between HRE and the other companies on that list, is that HRE specializes in custom wheels rather than production off the shelf wheels.
For the last several years, HRE Wheels has opened the doors to their facility to show everyone how their wheels are created and how a proper wheel should be made and engineered. Alan Peltier, President of HRE, takes attendees on a tour of the facility. There truly is something special about the magical wheels created out of this facility. We have had several years of inside experience with what happens within, and it really is magic. In our personal opinion, the artisans that handle the brushed/polished finishes are simply artists. This is the car enthusiasts Happiest place on earth!
Featured above is our good friend at Toyo Tires very own Stan Chen’s #VonDoom, #TheRaft and #LilDoom. BMW 3-series wagon on HRE 501, matching trailer and vintage BMW bike.
Line up of Lamborghini’s by Ogara Coach Company La Jolla.
One of our favorite cars of the event was Crooks & Castles Rob’s RWB grey widebody Porsche featured with Toyo Tires.
This year the BIG-EURO booth featured Joey of RWB LA’s Porsche 993 widebody, BMW E30 M3, (2) original Morris Mini Cooper, Audi S3 on HRE FF01, Rebel Rooks Porsche 996 and a Porsche 930 Turbo.
Part of the Open House includes a full collection of vendors. Our friends at CarNinja had a full showcase of cars on display. JMPG Garage brought out an entourage of amazing vehicles, we counted about a dozen including one of the Morris Mini Coopers featured in our booth.
This years event featured a raffle event with grand prizes including a set of custom forged HRE Wheels with a set of Pirelli tires and their 2nd grand prize was a set of HRE FlowForm wheels with a set of Toyo Tires. 100% of the proceeds will go to Motor4Toys for the last 12 years helped under privileged children. M4T simply is an amazing charity! Expect event coverage later this year.
The new widebody Vorsteiner GT4RS kit on the TAG Motorsports BMW M4 was stellar.
This Bentley Continential convertible by Wheels Boutique was spectacular! So elegant and classy on a set of HRE P103 in brushed titanium finish.
Marco Svizzero brought his 1M3 and his E92 M3 down from the bay area to showcase alongside the Targa Trophy lineup.
This year Gold Rush Rally made a parade entrance into the event bringing along several $1 million dollar vehicles. Including a Porsche 918 Hybrid, couple Bugatti Veyrons and a Pagani Huayra among a full lineup of Ferrari s and Lamborghini s.
This Draken Spyder looked amazing. It featured an LS1 motor on a go-kart like chassis. They sourced HRE Wheels to make a custom set of wheels for this rolling monster.
HRE Wheels has truly made an annual event worthy of all car enthusiasts. The Registered showcar parking even included a limited edition HRE t-shirt. There was so much to see at this years HRE Open House, just wasn’t enough time to see it all. Special thanks to the HRE staff for making this happen. Can’t wait til next year!

Bimmerfest 2015 Coverage
Bimmerfest, what can we say about Bimmerfest. Bimmerfest is one of the longest running BMW specific events in the US. Every year it brings together the largest community of BMW fanatics to the Southern California area.
This years event was amazing. Featuring vendors and car enthusiasts from all over. One thing is certain, BMW’s lineup is dominated by the F8x M3/M4. The vendor area was flooded with different configurations of the new M3/M4. It almost seemed like every other new BMW model was overshadowed. But then you see the lineup of the Heritage Coral and balance is restored.
One of the highlights of the event was BigLare’s IND built 4-door BMW F80 M3 in Individual Fashion Grey with custom 2 tone blue interior. BigLare annually brings subtle and unique BMW’s to the event. IND fitted the car with carbon fiber aero pieces and a unique blueberry blue HRE Wheels RS101M. Check out the unique interior colors in the gallery below.
Honestly, there were so many cars it was hard to see it all.
Here’s a few of our favorites and full gallery/pictures below. Don’t forget to check out video coverage by our friends at CarNinja.
Mode Carbon shows another example of a 4-door BMW M3 in white. Their new subtle front lip was one of our favorites of the show. Car was complimented well with the new HRE Wheels Classic 303 wheels.
Always and forever a favorite is the original BMW E30 M3. This one sporting the forever classic mesh BBS Wheels.
This Catuned BMW 6-series was a stunner. Hidden in a sea of amazing older BMW’s in the Heritage zone.
HG Motorsports showcased a fully wrapped BMW M4 on HRE Wheels new RC1 Series track ready wheel.
Jeremy Whittle has been making the rounds with his BMW 740iL E38. Now wearing a set of HRE Classic 309.
Mickey Andrade recently completed the heart transplant of his #RicFlare LibertyWalk widebody wagon. Now with a twin turbo 6-cylinder. To liven up the new transformation he has included a JTCC/BTCC touring car livery.
Auto Couture brought a duo of Signal Green BMW F8x M3/M4’s.
This years Bimmerfest truly showcases the large BMW community and the organization of the event that Jon Shafer started over a decade ago out of Santa Barbara. Can’t wait til next year!

Volkswagen has green lighted the Golf R400 Concept
Volkswagen has turned the switch to Go! for the Golf R400. Rumored to be reveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show 2016. Possibly using the R420 naming because they are expecting power output between 400-420 hp.
Pricing estimates would put it around $55k US dollar. Even if they have confirmed the production of the wonderful model, that doesn’t mean we will get this car stateside. But we like to be optimistic around here. The new MK7 Golf GTI is being praised by the automotive world, we sure hope Volkswagen produces this beast for us Mericans !

Black Beauty Lamborghini Huracan by HG Motorsports
Words by Lon Mok | Photos by Gabriel Milori
The is our first feature involving the new Lamborghini Hurácan LP610. The outgoing Gallardo ended it’s reign in 2013 and let’s be honest, it was a long reign. Since the Gallardo was introduced in 2003, the design of the Gallardo has not changed too much.
The Gallardo was sort of a bastard child when Audi acquired Lamborghini. It was close to production when Audi came along. Audi added it’s touches, but they really didn’t have much to do with it’s initial design.
The Audi R8 had the benefit of taking the good from the Gallardo and blending the build and engineering from the Germans. The 2nd generation Gallardo eventually received those same updates. The Hurácan has the Italian flare of Lamborghini with the feature rich build quality from Audi.
The Hurácan LP610 packs 602 hp from the retuned 5.2 liter V10 from the Gallardo. The new V10 introduces direct fuel injection and multi-point fuel injection. The improvements allow the Hurácan to sprint from 0-60 in 3.2 secs and hit 120 mph in 9.9 secs. Finally the V10 have a proper dual clutch transmission 7-speed to translate the power down, but sadly removing the option of a manual rowing machine. The Hurácan also has a new magnetic controlled suspension system.
The new interior of the Hurácan is sporty and elegant. The Hurácan also is one of the first sportscars to have the infotainment system located within the dash console instead of the center console. This allows the driver to see whatever information he needs right in front of him. The headlight system features is full LED.
The Hurácan has received improvements throughout, but as we all know, there are always improvements to be made. HG Motorsports fitted the new Hurácan with a set of HRE Wheels classic designed 305M in satin bronze. The simple five spoke design compliments the angular look of the Lamborghini. The bronze finish is subtle against the glossy black of the car.
No car should ever ride at stock height. A set of Novitec lowering springs were used to bring the chassis down to earth. The black beast was offset with hints of red from the brake calipers and interior leather trim. KI Studios was called on to bring the black and red theme together with an simple hood and roof striping.
HG Motorsports is known for racing what they build, so we can’t wait to hear the roaring V10 of this black beauty coming down the straightaway.
