Arranged Marriage | Ron

A huge thank you to mymisstina for requesting this scenario! My computer actually freaked out while I was writing this and I lost my first draft of this. But I like this one better anyway so I’ll take that as a win.

Word Count: 1,138

When you would daydream about how you wanted your life to be, the words “arranged marriage” never even crossed your mind. So when your parents sat you down at dinner to explain what was going on you were shocked. They said a marriage between you and the other family’s son would help out your family a lot financially. You weren’t even sure what that meant or why in the world it was your responsibility. But you agreed to it not really understanding what you were getting yourself into. You met your husband once before the marriage became official. He introduced himself as Cheon Byunghwa. He was handsome in a weirdly charming way. He didn’t speak unless directly spoken to but when he did speak to you he was very nice. A week later you would sign the official papers. There wasn’t a ceremony or anything special like that. Your marriage would have to be a secret between the families. Byunghwa was an idol and being married would ruin his “image” or something like that. You really didn’t want to pry into that. Your parents bought you an apartment out in the city, which you really weren’t used to. The apartment itself was really spacious and had all the amenities you two would need. It was really nice but you still weren’t sure how you felt about sharing space with a complete stranger. You were at home one night watching TV when you heard Byunghwa open the door. He was home surprisingly early. You weren’t expecting him home at all for the next couple of hours. “Welcome home! Dinner is still on the stove if you’re hungry.” You told him, watching him shuffle his feet out of his shoes. “Thanks, I’m going to change really quickly before I eat.” He mumbled quietly, before making his way to the bedroom. You could tell he was exhausted just by watching him walk. It was weird to have him home with you. He was always so busy with his schedules. There were nights he wouldn’t even come home or he would just stop by and shower before leaving again. It was kind of nice to know someone else was in the apartment with you. For once, you didn’t feel so alone. You had focused back on your show when he had come back out into the living room. “I made some food for you and the guys. If you want you can take it to practice tomorrow.” “The guys?” He said, followed by a loud yawn. “Yeah, I’m sure you and the other members get hungry while you’re practicing. I figured I would make something for all of you.” You watched as Byunghwa squinted his eyes, lost in thought. “Thanks.” He mumbled again, before going into the kitchen. He came back out with a bowl of food and sat himself down on the opposite side of the couch. Neither of you said anything as he ate. Both of you had your eyes glued to the TV the entire time. There was such an awkward silence between the two of you that you could barely stand it. But you were too nervous to get up and go somewhere else. You were stuck in your seat. Ron set his empty bowl in his lap just as a commercial interrupted the show you were watching. “You know, I was really hoping it wouldn’t turn out like this.” You were surprised to hear his deep voice and it made you jump a little. “What do you mean?” “I didn’t think that right after I started my singing career that my parents would set up an arranged marriage for me. I mean I’m so busy already with activities I just don’t think this was a good idea. Honestly, I really don’t see this working out.” He leaned his head onto the back of the couch and looked up at the ceiling. Where in the world was this coming from? You don’t see him for three months and then he just suddenly drops this on you. You knew that the situation the two of you were in wasn’t exactly ideal but it definitely could have been a lot worse. And you knew what he was saying wasn’t a personal attack or anything but for whatever reason it still bothered you. “Well, there isn’t really anything we can do about it now.” You sighed heavily, staring at his profile from the other side of the couch. “I can’t believe it’s been three months already.” “I was hoping that if I just didn’t come home because I was so busy you would get so frustrated you would leave. I thought if I made this hard on you then we wouldn’t have to go through this.” He laughed lightly. “I still can’t believe you stayed even for this long.” You burst out laughing. “Are you serious? You tried to make me angry so I would leave?” “Yeah, I know it’s terrible. But over the last couple of weeks my feelings have changed a little. It’s nice to know someone is at home waiting for me. I look forward to the little meals you cook for me. I really appreciate it even if I don’t say it.” He tilted his head to the side so he could look at you. Your breath hitched as the two of you made eye contact. You could detect small tears welling up in the corners of his eyes. A small tinge of pain tugged at your chest seeing him look so defeated. “And when you told me that you had made food for the other members… well, to be honest I got a little jealous.” Even in the middle of such a serious conversation you couldn’t help but laugh. “Really? You got jealous over something like that?” “Yeah, I know it’s stupid but it’s the truth!” Byunghwa sat up straight and looked you dead in the eyes. “I promise that I’ll try to make this work. I know it isn’t easy on you and I’m going to do everything I can to treat you right, okay?” You nodded slowly. You were still taken off guard by him opening up to you but at the same time you found something very sweet and sentimental about it. After three months of being married this was your first real conversation. You almost couldn’t believe it. “Thanks, Byunghwa, that really means a lot.” You smiled slightly, wiping a few stray tears from your eyes. He reached across the couch and pulled you close to him. You were so close to him you could distinctly smell the cologne he was wearing. It was comforting to be in his warm embrace. You reluctantly wrapped your arms around him as the two of you held each other for what felt like an eternity.

Your day hadn’t gotten off to a great start and it didn’t look like it was getting any better. You woke up an hour late and missed all of your morning classes. Then you missed your bus to get to work and had to call in late. After all of this all you wanted was a coffee. You didn’t want to wait in line for 20 minutes and you certainly didn’t want it to spill onto the sidewalk after you bumped into someone right outside the coffee shop. How could it honestly get worse? “Ah man, I’m sorry. I should have watched where I was going.” The gentleman that bumped into you said. “Are you okay?” You sighed heavily, wanting nothing more than to just cry right there. “Yeah, I’m okay. Don’t worry about it.” You kneeled down and picked up your now empty coffee cup. “How about I go ahead and buy you another one?” He offered, pointing over to the coffee shop you had just left. “No that’s okay… you don’t have to…” You quietly said, before looking up at who you were talking to. You couldn’t deny that he was handsome. His warm smile just washed over you and made you forget about just how bad your day had been. Free coffee from a cute guy seemed like just the right thing to make your whole day better. “Thanks, that sounds great.” Both of you entered the coffee shop and he bought you a brand new coffee just like he promised. Somehow he had coerced you to sit down with him and chat a little bit but you had nothing else to lose. You chatted for quite sometime to such a point you had completely lost track of time. It was enjoyable being with him, even if he was just a stranger. “Ok, let me be honest with you for a second.” He suddenly said, setting his phone down onto the table. “I didn’t bump into you on accident.” You leaned forward and gave him a questioning look. “Excuse me?” “Hear me out. I saw you across the street when you left the coffee shop and I thought you were cute and I just had to talk to you.” He seemed totally embarrassed admitting this to you now while the tips of his ears turned pink. “So you bumped into me?” You laughed. “You couldn’t just say hi?” “Yeah, that wasn’t a great idea. I’m just glad your coffee spilled onto the sidewalk and not onto you.”   “You should consider yourself lucky.” You teased him. The coffee shop was just about to close and kick the two of you out. So you both left and stood outside as the two of you exchanged numbers. It didn’t take long for him to text you the next day and for a easygoing conversation to start up.

When the two of you had gone to the restaurant there were clear skies but as the sun went down the clouds crept in and now it was just a torrential downpour. You and Hyuntae stood at the entrance of the restaurant just watching all the water streaming off of the awning. “So what should we do?” You asked, a heavy sigh following. You felt defeated by the rain. All you wanted was a nice day out with your best friend but of course something had to go and ruin it. A huge grin spread across Hyuntae’s face and he intertwined your arm with his. “Let’s make a run for it!” Hyuntae sprinted out ahead of you while tugging you along the entire time. The rain spraying yourself in the face was extremely uncomfortable and you could feel your soaked clothes clinging to your body. You really weren’t up for running right after having a meal so after about half a block you forced him to stop to take a short break. Both of you were completely out of breath as you took shelter underneath a second awning. “Ok, now let’s just see if the rain will clear out.” You suggested, feeling the weight of your damp clothes on your body. You looked up at your best friend who was just as soaked as you were from the rain. His t-shirt was clinging to his body and his wet hair clung to his scalp. There was nothing particularly attractive about him at that moment but for some reason you couldn’t take your eyes off of him. The two of you had known each other for years and not once had you ever had feelings for him. However, after he debuted and you began to see him less and less you noticed yourself missing him in a way you never had before. You were so confused every time you saw him and you decided that if you just kept pushing away those thoughts that eventually they would go away. Just as you were lost in your thoughts you felt something warm drape over your shoulders, snapping you out of your trance. “Here, I don’t want you to catch a cold.” Hyuntae said, as he made sure his jacket was perfectly over your shoulders. He was so close to you. Even in the freezing rain you could feel his body heat radiate against your own. Your eyes met and for a moment you felt your heart skip a beat. Without thinking you stood on your tiptoes and lightly pressed your lips against his. You expected him to pull away and tease you for it. But he didn’t. You were the first one to pull away with your face bright red. “I’m sorry I just… I don’t know what came over me.” You were almost on the verge of tears, scared you had just ruined everything between the two of you. Hyuntae placed his hands on your shoulders and placed a small kiss on your forehead. “You don’t need to apologize.” You heard him whisper over the roar of the rain. You couldn’t believe what you were hearing but for whatever reason you decided to keep rambling on. “I’ve liked you for awhile and… I don’t know it just seemed like a good idea.” You laughed at how ridiculous you sounded. But Hyuntae just silenced you with another kiss. It was another small one but it felt different to you. “I’m just glad you said something before I did.”

When You’re Sick | Ron

You were lying in bed, sicker than you had ever been in years. Every single part of your body hurt and you could barely move to grab the remote. You groaned as your phone began to ring on the pillow next to you. Honestly, that was probably the most annoying noise you could have heard at that moment. You didn’t even check to see who was calling you before you answered with a weak, “Hello.” “Jagiya? Are we still meeting up today?” Your boyfriend’s worried voice rang into your ears. “Are you ok? You don’t sound well.” “I’m sorry, oppa. I caught a really bad cold I don’t think I’m going to be able to see you today.” You mumbled almost inaudibly. You were having a hard time staying awake and just didn’t have the energy to carry a conversation. “Ok, that’s fine. How about I come over and take care of you today?” He offered to you. “I mean that sounds great, oppa, but I’m not sure I’m going to be much company today.” You told him. You could hear him laugh softly on the other end. “That’s okay. I’ll pick some stuff up at the store and then I’ll head over.” You murmured a response before hanging up. You weren’t sure how long you were asleep after that but you were woken up by Ron rubbing your arm gently and kissing your cheek a couple of times. “Hey, jagiya, I’m here. I’m going to make something for you to eat but I left some medicine on the side table next to you. Just take a little bit right now, alright?” You nodded slowly as you rubbed your eyes. When you finally sat up Ron had already left the room. You reluctantly took the medicine he gave you, not liking the sour taste it left in your mouth. You shuffled your way out of bed and headed toward your kitchen for something to drink. Ron was sitting at the kitchen table looking at his phone while the soup was cooking on the stove. He heard you come in and looked up. “Hey, I don’t think you should be getting out of bed.” “The medicine was really gross. I just came to get some water.” You grabbed a glass from your cabinets and filled it with faucet water. You sat across from Ron and sipped at your drink. “Thanks for coming to take care of me. But if you get sick from hanging around me today your manager is going to get really mad.” Ron laughed and set his phone on the table. “I’ll be able to deal with it. I would feel really bad if I just left you here to suffer.” He leaned over the table and gave you another kiss on your forehead. “Now, how about some soup and then we take a nap together or something.” “That sounds wonderful.” You smiled gratefully.

“I don’t understand how this can be so hard.” You whispered to yourself as you studied your math textbook for the thousandth time. You looked back at your notebook that was covered in more doodles than it was math problems. Everything just looked like one big jumbled up mess and you were beginning to get fed up. In anger you threw your pen across the table. As soon as it left your hands you saw the person sitting at the table in front of you that was in the line of fire. You flinched as the pen hit the center of their back. Crap. You were really in for it now. They slowly turned around, not entirely sure what had just happened. They noticed the pen on the ground and picked it up before looking directly at you. “Sorry!” You blurted out, terrified they were about to yell at you. He laughed. “Did you need something from me?” He didn’t seem to be angry with you at all and his smile was extremely welcoming. “I mean if you’re any good at math that’d be great.” You were joking around with him to try and ease out of the situation. But you were surprised to see him get up from his chair and bring all his belongings with him. “I’m not that good but I’ll see what I can do.” He took the seat directly in front of you. “So what are we working on?” “Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt you or anything. You really don’t have to help me.” You sighed heavily. “It really isn’t a big deal. I was just listening to music anyway.” He reassured you, before sneaking a peek at your textbook. “Now what are you getting stuck on?” He spent a good half an hour helping you with your homework. He said he wasn’t very good at math but the way he explained it just seemed to click with you. Because of him you were actually able to finish all your work at a reasonable time. “I can’t thank you enough for helping me out today. I really appreciate it.” You said, stretching your arms above your head. “I can’t promise I’ll retain any of it though.” He laughed and got up to leave. “Really, it wasn’t a problem at all.” He slung his bag over his shoulder and smiled at you. “I’ll see you around.” “Wait! Before you go I at least want to know your name.” You said, standing up as well and collecting all of your things into your backpack. “Oh right. Mine name is Jungkyun. What about you?” As soon as you gave him your name he nodded. “Well, it was nice meeting you. And how about you let me do you one more favor and walk you back to your dorm?” “That sounds great.”
