the words hit him with the force of an automobile and the bliss of a lazy sunday afternoon, although dmitry doesn’t waste time dwelling on that dichotomy. it was so unlikely, the two of them finding one another, falling in love the way they have, and the feeling he has now seems to sum it all up in one fell swoop. there’s nothing in the world he loves more than he loves her ; until her, he never knew that he could see the rest of his life in somebody else’s eyes.
he grazes a thumb against her cheek and takes a moment to kiss her, just gently, savoring the moment before he pulls back to look her in the eye. she really does have the romonov eyes, though he’s come to think of them as just anya’s. he’s not sure he’s ever seen anything so blue, but he feels he could drown in them, given the opportunity -- and that he wouldn’t stop himself, if he did.
