I hated the last drawing I made so I've decided to remake it

It's been a while since I drew some cats... Yeah.

Upon further investigation I realised that the books describe Bluestar as a long haired cat.

My original design depicted her with short but compacted hair. I wanted to see if I could manage to change that in the design.

I hope I can bring some sketches soon.

I'm joining this trend too.

I've drawn a couple grey cats with blue eyes. Can you guess who they are? If you can, then it means I managed to do it right!

New sketches and concepts

1) Sootkit and Whitestorm designs (ft. Snowfur and Thistleclaw) and Thunderclan's forest camp. I'm thinking of making a Warrior Cats comic soon. I have the script done, half of the characters designed. I need to make a reference sheet for all of them, practice the background location and then I'll start the comic sketch. Don't know how long it will take for me to show it or whether it will be liked as it is short, but I hope you enjoy it anyways as I will enjoy making it.

2) Redtail and Spottedleaf prototype design. I'm unsure about Spottedleaf pattern and well, unsure about the designs. I'd appreciate any criticism about them.

3) Unfinished Flametail illustration. (Warning: spoilers for Omen of the Stars, specifically Night Whispers) His official artwork is my favourite one from all of the old ones. I really like this character's concept and all the symbolism he carries. A young and promising medicine cat, the growing flame of Shadowclan in a time where their current medicine cat was deeply sick, extinguished by the cold waters of fate. In this illustration I wanted to give a meaning to the rainbow. Iris is the greek godess that embodies the rainbow. She's depicted as a communication link between the gods and humans, often warning about war. And while in canon he is warned by starclan of the uncoming Great Battle with a fire related message, I kind of wanted to express both things in the drawing (rainbow on the back, bright lights on the tree and rocks to emulate the flames of the vision).

While the idea seems interesting, I'm unsure if I should continue it as the background is going to be a bit of a pain for me. But if anyone wants to see the finished picture, I'll gladly continue.

i love your brightheart design, she looks gorgeous!! one thing though: you shouldn't tag it as #post traumatic stress disorder since that's a tag people with ptsd use to discuss their experiences and share resources

Finished Brightheart design sheet.

This was difficult to draw. I spent a long time thinking her design and I tried to search the best way to portray her scars. It was hard to find accurate information in cats, so if anyone who reads this would like to offer some critique or advice I’d love to read it. 

More information:

o  Warning: this point contains details about her wounds and mental state, skip this point if you are 14 years old and younger or don’t feel okay reading this stuff, as it is graphic. Proceed with caution. Her right side scars were done while trying to climb a tree to get away from the dogs. Unfortunately though Swifpaw’s sacrifice gave Brightpaw time to react and try to escape, the dogs grabbed her hips from the left side. The rest of the scars were done because she curled on the floor leaving her left side exposed. That way she got heavy bite wounds on her face and torso. He face got the worse part. Both her left eye and ear is gone and some of her upper face was ripped off, thus her left eye socket is assimetrical. While on treatment her face got swollen and was in complete mental shock (Acute stress disorder if she was diagnosed in human standards). After taking her bandages off and a lot of work from Cinderpelt to stabilize her and avoid it from developing into a worse condition, she seemed to get to a better mental state... until she saw her reflection. Since then, both that incident and hearing Bluestar’s assigned name made her relapse and suffer mentally (Post-traumatic stress dissorder).  Later after treatment hair grew back, blending a bit her scars, but not fully. She still has nightmares and can’t bear the thought of dogs, but has learnt to accept her scars and self image and to stop blaming herself for Swiftpaw’s death. This was thanks to early intervention from Cinderpelt and Cloudtail’s emotional support. Firestar recognized her recovery and the pain that her assigned name brought her, and thus changed her name to Brightheart to honor her strength and kindness, as well as her strong will to live and never give up. I don’t have much experience in medical fields and while I did ressearch, I could have got it wrong. I’d appreciate input in that case so I can learn and change it. I take these topics seriously.

o As she got old her ginger patches started to become smaller as white hair grew on them. They also became slightly diluted and desaturated. Small spots from old age appeared on her face scars.

o Just because I’m not sure if it’s very telling, on her elder drawing she’s sleeping on Cloudtail’s back leg and tail. She likes to sleep like that because Cloudtail has a very soft and fluffy tail and gives her comfort.

Two previews or WIP (Work In Progress) for the next designs references.

Sunbeam reference. Will redraw it probably as the lineart and colouring is a bit sketchy for the references sheet, but I feel this is the design pattern I'm after.

Brightheart reference. This one is more advanced than the previous.

I spent a lot of time trying to find a design that fits her well because of how special it is for me the character and because of her complex design. I've made countless sketches in the last two years but I never felt it looked right. But I think I've finally found the design. I tried to research references for these kind of injuries aswell as recalling from a close real experience, but I truly appreciate any critique that can help me improve the portrayal of her scars.

I agree, pencil and pen sketches, and honestly any art done traditionally are underappreciated.

My most recent sketches. I tried to make an art style change to a more cat style. I used already posted cat designs but I'm unsure about it. I feel it lacks characterization.

2. Stormfur and Feathertail. I am planning on redoing their reference as I don't like the anatomy on the original sheets.

3. Hollypaw. Well, it's more of a Hollykit having just being made Hollypaw. She's about to realise she will have to memorize herb names and she's a little bit confused but still got the spirit.

I mixed both the style I am used to with some of the realistic features and I like it better.

Traditional sketches

Crowpaw/Crowfeather design idea. Highly inspired by uneasywolf's design

Ashfur design idea. Still difficult to decide whether to give him long hair or short hair.

Scene sketch: Briarlight morning routine check. Briarlight and Jayfeather's interactions are very interesting to me. I feel they would always try to make eachother comfortable. Briarlight knows Jayfeather doesn't wake up in the best mood so she would play small light-hearted jokes on him to lighten the mood. Jayfeather definitely can tell when she's joking and her good intentions and knows it's tiring to wake up early to do physical exercises, so he would be very understanding to her. After all, few more minutes of bedtime can't do harm. So he would kindly wake her up, touching Briarlight's head while she would try to hold her laugh after her prank is unveiled.

Littlecloud design. I really like medicine cats!

Scene sketch: Littlecloud and Flamepaw's first day outside. Before starting their search to gather some catmint along with other herbs, Littlecloud explains which are the most important herbs and their location on the territory. However, a moth lays on Flamepaw in the middle of the explanation. Flamepaw tries to wiggle to let the moth away and ends up standing. Littlecloud offers some support and amusingly tells him that finding a moth is a good omen for medicine cats.

I truly enjoy making scene sketches. I hope you enjoy them. Feel free to suggest any if you want to.
