have been rewatching s3 and musing on how rusty and pete have the kind of friendship that’s particular to two selfish unkind people, where they don’t really expect any care or interest on a personal level from one another as long as they can keep getting what they want from each other - for pete, it’s rusty’s legitimacy and resources, for rusty it’s pete’s admiration and tolerance, and both of them kind of count on the other to make them feel like they’re morally good, or at least normal… but then that got me to thinking how actually maybe accepting another person’s bad decisions without judgment in order to continue mutually fulfilling some need or other is actually kind of just what most friendships are so let he who’s without sin cast the first stone am i right?? believe it or not the point of this screed is that they’re cute and i like them
