Another one inspired by the delightful @cptn_rex! (IG) Rex at the aquarium just gave me feels for some reason. I imagine he’d very much appreciate how awesome the underwater world is. As far as we know, he’s never seen it. (Also I have never drawn an aquarium scene and by golly lemme tell ya: it is a doozy.)

Something I think is neat and kind of funny is that Boba and Jango AND Din all demonstrate complete willingness to find the loopholes in their contracts and promises even if they won’t directly break their word. Like, Boba doing that thing where he gets his friend to pay him some pocket change in exchange for murder so that it’s technically in his contract. Din promising he wasn’t going to let that guy he hated “die by my hand” and then letting him get eaten by dogs.
And I actually rly like the conception of Mandalorians as people who understand that they are in some ways limited and weakened (at least in that career path lol) by their cultural dedication to following a strict Code of Honor. So to compensate for this they tend to be really good at negotiating their way into loopholes and technicalities via legalese and vaguely worded verbal agreements.

Really wild to me how Kal about the Nulls is like "These are my genius sons. My beautiful boys who can do no wrong. They are the best to ever do it They can do anything they put their mind to! I would burn the galaxy to the ground for them. I would do literally anything to improve their lives."
And then we cut to Ordo's perspective and he's just like "That's my dad. He's old and short and angry and he loves me very much. I am basically his attack dog at this point. :)"
#they make me so unwell#op and prev's tag really put it in word...#like the nulls' relationship and dynamic with kal is messed up but how can it Not be given their situation#kal wants his boys to see him as just so guy but how can they ever see him as anything but their savior#how could ordo not be fiercely protective to the point of being obsessively loyal#to the only man who ever treated him and his brothers with kindness and love?#kal gave them their names. fed them. and kept them safe.#how could he not see the very man who had loved him as anything but his savior?#WILL I EVER BE NORMAL ABOUT THEM????#kal skirata#ordo skirata#meta

my favorite genre of fictional character is like "i am terrifying to almost everyone, i'm very good at killing, i can endure anything, i've become exceptionally good at playing into my reputation, and if you try to give me positive social interaction i will react with confusion and cower in a corner like an abused animal. and i may try to shoot you. but there is also a chance i may imprint on you like a feral dog receiving its first loving touch! good luck."

jango and boba are like: what if your entire existence was meant for the sole purpose of continuing a dead man's legacy. what if you were an exact copy of the person who will raise you, except he shows you love and tenderness amidst the sharpness of his weapons, because he loves you too much in all the ways you cannot understand, but you are made of the same cells and you know no other father but the one who shares your blood.
he dies before he can tell you who you are or what you were meant to do. and so you can never be anyone else, cannot stray from the path that was given to you. there is no life lived without following their teachings that does not feel like betrayal and you can never be whole without them and so you were born into perpetual grief.
there was never a world wherein you wouldn’t have to grieve for your father in a million different ways.
this is the only way your story goes, with grief and love intertwined.
#boba fett#jango fett#star wars#the inherent tragedy within the fett family haunts me to this day#i will never be normal about them sorry#ry does meta

ok so the clones are mandalorian because jango fett was mandalorian and jango fett was mandalorian because he was a foundling and boba was a mandalorian because jango was a mandalorian and because jango raised boba to follow in the mandalorian way of life but nobody raised the clones that way but they’re still mandalorian because jango was mandalorian and they keep the little bits of mandalorian culture that they get clutched close to their chests like names and symbols and songs but mandalore is gone now and they never had a dad to tell them stories or teach them what the word aliit meant and they’ll never get to wear beskar but they still treasure the armor they do have and they still defend each other to the death because that’s what a clan does and they still fight with honor because this is the way
#mandalorian diaspora is such a great way to phrase this!#like you weren't born you were made. but your dna leads to one man and he is referred to by most as a legendary hunter#who comes from a culture were family and clan comes first. and you don't know anything about his culture or his language other than#what your brothers tell you and despite never meeting this man who has your face you feel that connection anyway#it's why you hold onto these words and phrases. it's why you hold onto your brothers the same way you hold onto your name.#I AM SO UNWELL ABOUT THESE FICTIONAL MEN#the clones#jango fett#meta

the jedi vs mandalorian dichotomy of connection to the universe vs connection to family. being a jedi is about finding your place in the galaxy (the force is in everything, you are connected to every living thing, love is all around you if you open your eyes to it) but at the expense of attachment to family. inversely being a mandalorian is about finding your place in a clan (I’ll tear the whole galaxy apart to keep you safe, my whole purpose is to protect and defend my people, love makes you at war with the rest of the world) at the expense of connection to a greater world beyond your own clan

everything about the clones’ existence makes me so unwell. it’s like. you are a copy of a man who is a killer but he is also a father and he is whip-smart and tough but he’s a simple man and he asks for one thing when he agrees to be cloned and it’s a son. and you grow up to look just like this man but you are not his son you are his paycheck
#“you're a good soldier and you have your father's eyes”--- what if you just stabbed me instead??? 😭😭😭#and the additional reply being “grief made your father bitter and you're not sure what it's making you” --- PAIN. SO MUCH PAIN IN THAT LINE.#my shaylas (the clones)#the clones#jango fett#meta#POSTS I WILL BE THINKING ABOUT LATE AT NIGHT FOR A LONG TIME
