...what is the "sex is just rock climbing" category

It was kind of a joke between me and a friend ("you wouldn't judge someone for having gone rock climbing with a bunch of different people") but honestly the more I thought about it the more I bought into it unironically because:

It is a physical activity done with one or more partners

You should only go rock climbing with people you trust to not let you fall

You should not go rock climbing with someone who is drunk or currently incapable of rational decision-making

Some people get super super super into rock climbing and do not shut up about all the places they have climbed and how many are left on their bucket list and these people are usually men between the ages of 20 and 35 and like it's fine dude I'm glad you're happy but I don't know what most of those mountains even are

While many consider it a fun activity, pressuring someone into climbing when they don't want to (or ignoring their feelings and just dangling them off a cliff,) could cause both psychological and physical trauma

There is no moral value to it whatsoever. Who you have gone rock climbing with (or whether you have rock climbed at all) has no bearing on who you are as a person. Imagine telling someone "it's not that heights make you nauseous, it's just that you haven't found the right person to belay you!" or "you need to save your first time rock climbing for someone special." That would be absurd.

For some people it is a deep and moving personal experience.

historically I have not asked myself "will this aggravate my hip flexor injury" before participating when perhaps I should have 😔

I fucking love this song so much and as soon as my friend played it for me for the first time, I knew I had to perform this. This is just such a banger song to perform at any drag show bc I am given plenty of people to point to. Not to mention that I had my family front row for this one.

The coat for this look took 40 hours to bedazzle alone (and gave me a serious case of solvent poisoning-) and the paper pad took me about 4 hours to complete in total. I’m glad I managed to get these pictures from @/solcm15 on insta so I at least have some good pictures of this beast. Needless to say, I’ve changed how I bedazzle from now on.

Just look at this hot bitch… Everyone gets to have a meeting with the Drag HR Manager and I hope to perform this number so many more times ❤️

hello!! just here to say that I’m a teen who follows you, and you being the person you are (ie, adhd and in your forties and functional and an author) is really inspiring to me. it gives me a lot of hope that everything will turn out okay and that it’s possible to become a grown-up and still keep what I love, and I really, really thank you for that. hope you have a great day!

What a lovely thing to say! I'm so glad you're enjoying the blog :) I always get a little nervous at the idea of younger people reading here, not because of you or anything but because like everyone I'm human and screw up and I'm not always the best role model. But, like Gerald in the latest novel, when I do screw up I'm trying to be a cautionary tale and not a bad example :)

And hey, if you've got an ADHD diagnosis at your age then you're going to have so many opportunities I missed. You'll know yourself so much better and earlier, you'll be able to make use of tools that I didn't have or didn't even EXIST when I was a teen, and you'll be able to look at times you fucked up and say, "Hey, I'm dealing with shit other people aren't, I'm okay" and not worry about it so much. Lean into your hyperfixations, remember that people who think you're cringe are being dickheads at best and ableist at worst, and explore your options always, even the ones you "shouldn't" choose. Take the doors off your cabinets, go out to dinner alone, be free :D

Not to say that the ADHD is all there is, it's just, the more I learn about myself, the more I see what was missed in not getting a diagnosis sooner. I don't feel regret exactly, I like who I am, but I do sometimes wonder who I could have been.

Anyway, as I said I do like who I am, and I'm glad that I can model that for you, too :) You absolutely can grow up and keep what you love; the true mark of an adult is that they know what they love, respect it, respect themselves, and don't bother with people who can't do that.

Fanbind: Do Every Stupid Thing by thepartyresponsible

This was an already-made typeset generously shared with me by someone on the Renegade server (@runawaymarbles). I used their beautiful design element for the cover as well (although I cannot recommend doing interlocking elements in different colors if you are visuospatially-impaired like I am!). It was the perfect baby-step into my first actual text bind, whereas up until this one I had only bound blank notebooks or done rebinds of already-printed books. I was worried it might be too over the top with reflective foil used for all four colors (even the top, which photographs looking a little white, is reflective silver foil), but I ended up liking it. It's a nice contrast with the matte gunmetal bookcloth, and echoes the quote that says, "Don't let 'em break your heart. That small one's kinda flashy." (Rosa, my dearest, you were only there for a few pages but you live forever in my heart). This copy was meant for me, but ended up being timed just right (with a little doing-this-instead-of-work on my part) to send to my amazing beta and fandom bestie, @kangofu-cb, so the next copy will be for me! The fic is Do Every Stupid Thing by @thepartyresponsible, a.k.a. the fic that got every single one of us into the Jason Todd fandom. @thepartyresponsible, I sent you an ask, but if you want a bound copy of your fic I would be thrilled to send you one!

My machine sewn shirt tutorial is FINALLY FINISHED! Written tutorial on the blog, video tutorial on youtube. Both probably more detailed than necessary.

I like the idea of a Vulcan character who constantly does very reckless things so her human crewmates think she's strange but then she always has a logical explanation she delivers with absolute confidence.

I was working with an item today that just utterly flabbergasted a part of me (the other was deeply frustrated with the catalogue record AS SOMEONE APPARENTLY THOUGHT IT WAS PRINTED ON SILK, coming back to that in a minute) … but ANYWAYS … said item is a replica of a medieval manuscript prayer book THAT IS ENTIRELY WOVEN out of grey and black silk … WOVEN … text, images, intricate grey scale, WOVEN … NOT PRINTED …

And it’s flabbergasting because it’s from 1888, Jacquard machine, IT USED PUNCH CARDS to weave these intricate pages … something like 400 weft per near square inch … IT looks like a page of textured paper, but it’s not, it’s entirely SILK … F*CK …
