So. This happened years ago in the midwest of us. I was driving out to a party with a friend late at night. It was on a dark paved two lane road, and the sun had gone down as it was winter and the sun sets around 5:00. So even though it was around 9 it was quite dark.
We saw a vehicle (large SUV) in the distance which was stopped in the opposite lane. So it's lights were on. The dome light was on, and the passenger door was slightly open. In front of the vehicle was a creature on two legs, which was looking at its hands. It had short and very sparse grayish hair, and was around 3 feet tall. I know it sounds like bullshit, but the face looked kind of like a bat except the jawline was longer and extended, like a racoon. The eyes were bright red. As we passed by my friend floored the car because we were freaked out. As we passed it looked straight at us and raised its hands and opened its mouth.
So. Since I'm a logical person I've come up with some possible real world explanations.
A mangey overgrown racoon. Raccoons can be on two legs. However this creature didn't have any bushy hair like a racoon. An opposum would be another possibility. But... The things that are still troublesome with this explanation is that it seemed to have more human like legs. And it was meant to walk on two legs.
The other possibility I've looked into are ideas of mass hysteria. Where experiences with unknown creatures may be amplified and weirder when seen in groups. Since my friend and I both saw it, somehow we convinced each other it was weirder than it was.
However. One thing still creeps me out, which is why was the vehicle stopped, and why was nobody else around? I thought maybe someone stopped, and got out to get a gun out of the trunk? But if that was the case, why would the passenger door be ajar and not the driver side? If someone was freaked out, why stop the car at all? Why not just floor it and drive by like we did?
Another far out idea was the driver shape shifted into the monster. But if that was the case, why would it be so much smaller? Imagine a super skinny werewolf toddler, as ridiculous as that sounds.
