Ling- with Fang’s company- were out voluntarily running a few errands for Soothsayer (who lets say was feeling unwell and couldn’t go herself that day), and ran into a group of particularly nasty customers who were verbally harassing one of the local shop employees over something extremely dumb and minuscule. 

And despite his high status, the young lord had been taught by Soothsayer to be kind and respect the hard-working people of Gongmen. And witnessing those that didn’t, greatly aggravated him. And so with Fang’s full willingness to assist, Ling came to the poor employee’s aid, utilizing his father’s skills of wit and intimidation. But these unruly customers seemed to have an entitlement that could easily rival the one of Lord Shen himself, refusing to leave the shop until they got what they wanted (which was basically to have all the products they wanted for far less than the price that was expected to be paid).  

And so Ling moved onto phase two of his plan. Lord Ling: “Since you all are refusing to exit quietly, we’ll have to do this the hard way… and by the hard way, I mean by sicking my very strong best friend. Like you all clearly do, she also is real moody on Mondays and LOVES to chew others out… although the difference is that she does it quite literally and ONLY to nasty people who actually deserve it.”

And so long story short- those entitled customers never came back to that shop again, and Ling ended up realizing he forgot the grocery list Soothsayer had given him and had to guess what he was supposed to buy.

Lord Guang and Lady Caihong (Lord Shen’s parents) in the early days of their relationship.

Everyone in Gongmen says there was no other romance quite like this one. Sparks were flying!

Yeah- Ling definitely wouldn’t have made it through infancy without Soothsayer around to help. In fact- I don’t think Shen would have either…

A Duoship

I have absolutely fallen in love with this oc duo I created.

Just a silly young peacock lord and his silly wolf guard and bff preparing to get into all sort of trouble together, much to the displeasure of their father and uncle (respectively).

Some more portraits of Lord Ling, the first two being in his teenage years, while the last one is when he was just a tiny little hatchling, fresh out of the egg.

Ling: “My grandfather used to say that a peacock’s tail is his might and pride.”

Fang: “It’s no wonder they’re so damn long.”

Ling: “I know righ- HEY!!”

Fang: [smirks] “If your tail was also your ego, it’d be longer than the height of this tower.”

Ling: “How dare you!”

Fang: “Or maybe even longer than Gongmen City stretches east to west.”

Ling: “IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT LENGTH!!”

[Ling’s tail feathers shoot open out of anger, giving the wolf a full view of his unimpressive, but still growing, length]

Fang: “Hm- seems like I was wrong, my lord. Your ego is still shorter than you.”

Ling: [blushing furiously] “AUGH!!!”

Some More Ling

Ling’s one of those self-assured chaotic types who usually doesn’t give a damn about what he’s doing as long as he’s having lots of fun while doing it. Fang is always there by his side as a somewhat willing participant in the young lord’s misadventures while also doing her job to protect him.

Ling is pretty much the only one (besides Soothsayer ofc) who has the privilege of being able to fuck with Shen without having the consequence of a blade being pulled on him. Though that won’t stop Shen from scolding him. Ling knows exactly how to push his father’s buttons.

These two peacocks are frequently screeching and squabbling with each other. As stated before, Ling is a chaotic storm who doesn’t take his duties as future ruler seriously, which is really aggravating for Shen.

Shen: “That’s because you are small. Simple as that.”

Ling: “But one day I’ll be tall. Maybe even taller than you!”

Shen: “Oh, I don’t think so. No one will ever stand as tall as I do, I’ll make sure of that.”

Ling: “Not even me?”

Shen: “Especially not even you. The idea of a son being taller than his father is on another level of absurdity.”

Ling: “But what if it does happen?”

Shen: “Then I will chop off your legs.”

Ling: [chuckles] “Good one, father.”

Shen: [isn’t smiling]

Ling: [smile falters] “Um… y- you were joking… right?”
