I'm going to be honest, link building is hard. It takes a lot of time, effort, and patience. I've been doing it for years and there are still times where I just want to give up. One of the things I always do before sending an email pitch is to search for the person's contact information so that I can find out what their interests are and try to relate my request in some way. For example, if they have written about gardening then I'll mention how we have a gardening blog too!
