Also located on the quad are the columns at Mizzou! These columns are one of the most historic sites at Mizzou. In 1892, Academic Hall at the University was burned down. The only thing remaining from the building were the columns supporting it. In 1893, the columns were voted to be removed. However, just a few months later, the columns passed inspection and were going to be left on campus as a historic mark. You can find students sitting on the columns hanging out, studying, reading, or even taking naps. Students love to use the columns as a place to hang outdoors and just relax.

Looking to grab a bite to eat? “The Shack” that is located inside the University’s student center has great burgers, chicken, fries, and much more! The original “Shack” restaurant was located on Mizzou’s campus from 1960-1981. In 1981, a suspicious fire erupted on campus and burned down the “Shack”. The “Shack” was known for it’s unique style which was allowing all people that came into their restaurant to carve their name into the tables or the walls. In 2010, the tradition became apart of Mizzou once again, and the new restaurant was opened inside the student center. Students are still allowed to carve their names in the tables and walls, and even some of the remains from the old “Shack” are present in the newly built restaurant.
