William Leslie Arnold, later known as John Vincent Damon, was a convicted murderer who escaped from the Nebraska State Penitentiary and evaded capture for over four decades.

In 1958, at the age of 16, Arnold killed his parents during an argument over using the family car. He buried their bodies in the backyard, lived in the home as if nothing had happened, and eventually confessed. Sentenced to life in prison in 1959, Arnold was considered a model inmate until his escape in 1967.

Arnold and another prisoner cut through prison bars and climbed a barbed wire fence. While his accomplice was recaptured, Arnold vanished. He moved across the U.S. before settling in New Zealand and later Australia under the alias John Damon. He died in 2010 in Tamborine Mountain, Australia.

In 2023, DNA evidence revealed his true identity after his son, curious about his family history, took a genetic test that connected Arnold to his Nebraska crimes.
