What to use when in Witchcraft -
Ok so I am gonna say this is my personal reference, its mainly through associations. You might TOTALLY disagree and thats chill!
Its more something to think about and a guideline of what I use myself…
Candle Magic:
Carve a candle when…. the candle represents the target, in sympathetic magic. When, essentially, the candle is a poppet and lighting it is a symbol of destruction or empowerment to the target.
Place something under the candle or before it when… you are doing general candle magic, when the candle represents empowering a wish, idea or concept.
Anoint the candle when… doing work with spirits and gods, when you mark the candle for a special purpose, when doing high magic.
Herbs and plant work:
Use dry herbs when… it is convienent to do so, when the herbs are out of season or when you need to store them in a jar or bottle for a long time.
Use fresh herbs when… the spell is very earth orientated, when doing magic on behalf of another or when the magic is sympathetic so that the herbs represent the target, within kitchen witchery.
Use flowers when… when the spell concerns love and sex, or perhaps fertility and attraction, due to flowers being the reproductive parts of the plant.
Use fruit when when… working with children as a target, or with children practising. When you work with fertility and abundance spells.
Use wood and twigs when… when the spell is for protection or binding, for hardiness.
Burn herbs (recaning/incense) when… you wish to cleanse or banish, or invoke an atmosphere - that being, for divination using herbs that are said to open up your perceptions, when banishing, burning acrid or pungent herbs.
Use oil infusions when… you wish to anoint something, when you wish to mark something permanently.
Use floral waters (rose water etc) when… dealing with spirits and gods, for glamour as it has a long history of being used to beautify.
Crystals:
Use metals (haematite, copper, ores etc..) when… you work in protection, when you do energy work due to the conductive properties of metal.
Use shell, pearl, coral and such when… you work in sea magic, when you work within emotional magic due to the element of water.
Use points when… you wish to direct magic to a target.
Use tumble stones when… you wish the magic to be gentle or manifest at a certain place on the body on a target.
Use geodes when… you work in protection, when you work with glamour aimed to obscure and hide.
Knot magic:
Use cotton when… it is convenient.
Use silk when… doing spells that benefit the target.
Use ribbons when… love spells and wealth spells, as well as confidence and beauty spells. Spells to ensure victory.
Use rope when… doing spells that aim to hurt or weaken the target, binding especially.
Poppets:
Use cloth when… the spell aims to benefit who the poppet represents, use particular care when sewing or cutting, choose colours that are appropriate to them.
Use wax when… you wish to manipulate the target.
Use clay when… wish to create fetches or servitors, when you wish to create permanency.
Use twigs when… you wish to bury or throw the poppet out, when you want the poppet to be easily destroyed by breaking or setting on fire.
Sigils:
Use an alphabet grid or circle when… you wish the sigil to be more random and less attached to you.
Combine the shapes of letters from a sentence… when your sigil is very specific and a short term goal.
Use your own personal symbols when… you want the magic to be connected to you, when it is personal.

Coven drama???
So my priestess posted to facebook today how people are spreading rumors and I’m just like: explain?? Her: “We lost some followers and I got responses from a few old time acquaintances that I've been restricted. Our Instagram account has already made up the 4 lost so the number is now same but different people. And I've had to answer messages this morning. So it's just been a fun morning ontop of my family nonsense from last night.”
I hope, since she was running out of the house that she will explain more. But immediately a few things come to mind as possibilities.

Mulling around a ritual idea and would love someone I could talk to about it and bounce some ideas off of. I was thinking of honoring a Goddess or God for healing with it, however it’s not necessary. My first instincts are with running water, song, and candles, however the more I look into it the more I am thinking Brigid might be who I really want to be looking towards with healing and protecting peoples homes and families during these trying times.
Problem with that is while I’ve been practicing for 15ish years I’m new to the Celtic Gods, mainly focusing on communicating with the Morrighan after she made it known she was my matron Goddess and putting together the pieces of her being present in my life from the beginning. So not too familiar with Brigid.
Anyone who has any ideas or anyone who could tell me about their experiences with Brigid would be appreciated! ❤️

And maybe your maintenance work doesn’t “look” like your typical guide to warding - which to me read a lot like energy work.
Maybe you’re wards are iron nails at your home’s corners, nails down. Maybe it’s a layer of specially made herbs and ash that you lay down around the openings of your home. Maybe it’s the onion you hang around your place. Or it’s your guest broom which you flip over to kick guests out.
Maybe it’s the pslamic chant you pray over your home in each room. Maybe it the censing of your home. Maybe it’s the oil marking in each home or over thresholds. Maybe it’s the feeding of your spirits in their respective spirit houses. Have you fed your kitchen old man lately slavic bros?
These are all legitimately par for the course for a lot of witches and a lot of people who are in the magical communities. Thinking that it needs to look like -this- or use -this terminology- is a fallacy.

In Irish mythology, Brigid is the daughter of the Dagda and had two sisters also named Brigid and is part of the Tuatha de Danann, the supernatural Irish race. The three sisters made up the triple aspect of the one goddess: Brigid of the hearth, Brigid of the forge and Brigid of Inspiration. She is a goddess of spring, fertility, family, the hearth, childbirth, fire, blacksmiths, scholars, physicians, prophets, healing, poetry, occult knowledge, and justice. She was said to be born at sunrise and is often depicted with solar rays coming out of her head, making her one of the Irish solar deities alongside Lugh. It is said that wherever she walks four leaf clovers and flowers will grow. She also created the tradition of “keening” when her son Ruadan died in battle, a song-like wail used by women at funerals. In some cases she is also the goddess of sacred wells, springs and healing waters.
History
Her name comes in different spellings like Brig, Brighid, Brigit, or Brigid but it means “Exalted one” or “Fiery arrows”. She is a goddess of Pre-christian Ireland but versions of her are found all over Europe; she has ties to Brigantia, a warrior goddess of the Brigantes tribe of Britain. She was a beloved goddess of the Celts and has survived through centuries including the Christianization of Ireland and the rest of Europe where most traces of Druidism and Paganism were forgotten. The people of Ireland loved her so much and refused to let her be demonized by the church -like the rest of the gods- that they converted her into a saint known as St. Brigid of Kildare. There are also three rivers named after her one in Ireland, Wales and England: Brigit, Braint and Brent. The river that runs through Wales is known to have healing properties.
Imbolc
Also known as Brigid’s day, Candlemas or St. Brigid’s feast, Imbolc is one of the four fire festivals in Celtic paganism and celebrates the return of spring. Since Brigid is the goddess of spring and was said to go away during the winter, people would light a candle in honor of her return. Offerings of milk, bread, and corn cakes were set out and a seat at the dinner table was left open for her presence. Cows and sheep were seen as sacred to the goddess because they would provide milk for the town during the cold months and they would give birth around Imbolc. This festival celebrated the Maiden aspect of Brigid and young women would carry corn dollies dressed in white which represented the goddess. The women would also dress in white and attend a special feast for Imbolc where young suitors could mingle with the ladies. Imbolc is a time of fertility, cleansing and the light returning after a long winter.

Daily Magical Practice
This is simply a list of things that I do daily to keep myself in magical shape and keep me feeling witchy. From the time I wake up, to the time I go to bed, this is the routine I try hard to stick to. I figured maybe writing this could keep me motivated to stick to this schedule, and maybe inspire other practitioners as well!
Dream Journal: I have a dream journal that I keep by my bedside. In the morning, as soon as I wake up, I try to recall as much of my dreams as possible. Without trying to interpret anything, I write down everything I can possibly remember. Then, as I go through the day, I think about the symbolism and what it means to me, to see if I can find any messages.
Daily Devotion: Before getting ready for the day, I sit at my altar, lighting the center candle, and meditating until I feel calm and centered. I then speak my daily devotion, a chant I wrote to encompass my goals of inner peace and personal progress.
Tarot Reading: Depending on the day (whether or not I have to get up earlier because of my wonky work schedule) I do a one to three card tarot reading to give me insight about the day. This also helps me memorize the meanings of cards as I can think on the card symbols throughout the day.
Choose a Crystal: I sit with my crystals for a few moments, and see which one (or sometimes two) call to me that morning. I then charge and pocket them to let them assist me while I’m out.
Oils!: I use oils for everything, and though I do tend to mix it up for baths and rituals, there are two that I use daily. Every morning I tab a bit of Lavender essential oil on a lava bead diffuser bracelet (sent to me by the wonderful @mumblesandthings!), and set its intent for calmness and peace throughout the day. I then dab myself with a bit of my own Flying Devil Oil, usually on the forehead and back of the neck for general protection, and on my feet for safe travel while I’m driving from client to client.
Apartment Warding: I have a good set of wards around my place that I typically re-cast every month, but the one that I perform daily is a simple command when I lock my front door. A Cthulhu charm that hangs from the knocker, one that blends nicely with the door’s brass, but has a very noticeable eye button in its center. The charm is enchanted to keep away invaders and negative entities, but I charge it daily with a simple verbal command to protect my place and scare away any baddies.
Driving Protection: I only started this recently, after having one too many mishaps with my car. While driving literally anywhere, I repeat my own chant for protection and shielding of my car, imagining a bright shield around it, protecting it from both accidents and, if I’m honest, cops. I also keep a tiger’s eye and a malachite in my car with me for an extra bit of safety.
Aura Protection: When I’m feeling unsafe or just generally down in the dumps, I shield myself using a technique in which I imagine my aura hardening and glowing as a protective, magical shield.
Meditation: Usually when I get home, I try to meditate on my bed for at least fifteen minutes. Depending on the day it ranges from a simple grounding and centering, to third eye exercises, to awareness and listening for messages from my Gods and spirit guides.
Spirit/Thoughtform Work: This is still something I am trying to get better at. I have a spirit companion vessel that I keep with me at all times. It hangs on a necklace that is simple enough to wear with any outfit. My companion pops in and out throughout the day, and I speak to her commonly when I feel her presence. I also work with my thoughtform who, though he is sentient, pops in to check on me often.
Nature Offering: This mostly consists of me feeding the birds by filling their feeder with food daily, and whispering a short prayer to the nature spirits that may be around my home.
Tea Spells!: I have tea daily. When I say “daily” I mean all the time, all day. If I know what’s in my tea, and especially if I’m making my own herbal tea, I enchant it with whatever intent I feel I may need the most that day. I mostly focus on this in the evening once I’m home and calmed down from work.
Shower Magick: So, because I’m a dog walker, I make a point to take my showers/baths in the evening when I can wash all the sweat/dog slobber off. When I shower, I like to do a simply daily cleanse that involves my own salt and herbal scrub. Scrubbing the mixture in and then imagining the water rinsing the negative energy from my body and aura and down the shower drain is incredibly refreshing and rejuvenating.
Offerings: This is more of a spiritual practice, and is one that I’m still trying to remember to do more often, but as someone who works with Anubis and Bast, I try to make small offerings to them daily. Most of the time this is fresh water from my water filter, but I also like to throw in fruit and chocolate and other cute things I think they may like. Usually I do this an hour or so before bed.
Burn Cleansing/Protective Incense: This is the one thing I know I do daily because I enjoy it so much. I make my own blend of frankincense, sandalwood, and myrrh resins that I burn to keep the apartment cleansed and safe while I’m home. It works wonders.
Random Practice Time!: On days when I do not have a lot of homework or am free from plans, I enjoy doing random activities that call to me. This ranges from divination with my tarot decks and rune sets, using my Ouija board, talking with my spirit companion or thoughtform, doing needed spells and rituals, making oils and incense, writing down long term notes in my grimoire, and reading any of the witchy books I’m fighting to get through (college makes reading a chore).
Nightly Dream Journalling: Each night before I go to sleep, I write another entry in my dream journal. Most of the time it is a simple request to my guides, what helpful things I would like to dream about that night, and a written spell of protection from nightmares. Sometimes this does not work perfectly, but I will say that a few months ago I was suffering from awful nightmares. Since I have begun doing this, they have lessened incredibly, and my dreams have become more interesting and insightful.
That’s that! I do most of this on a daily basis, though I’m still trying to work on remembering some of it. There are other things I do weekly, such as cleansing my apartment and doing full ritual worship, but these are the things I try to be more consistent with. Add your own if you like!

Stumbled on the most amazing teacup on Etsy today - it’s designed specifically for tea leaf divination and is absolutely gorgeous! It’s a bit expensive but it’s definitely going on my witchy wishlist!
