originalpeople: original things...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meet Osaze Okera
Owner, Designer, Screen Printera thinker, illustrator, resister... an everyday human being working to make the truth beautiful.
From Etsy:
Original People is an artistic t-shirt design company consisting of everyday people, with a love for art, community, and justice. We design culturally-relevant t-shirts with original artwork that speak to a counter-cultural audience and its supporters.
In 2008, we transitioned to Original People. Deeply involved with both the social justice movement and providing culturally-relevant t-shirts for students, protesters, thinkers, organizers, and supporters, our mission became inseparable. We continue to print original freehand art in the hopes of derailing people's fascination with corporate clothing brands.

ReworkCreative: Rework | reclaim-reform-revive
Tumblr media
Stop everything and lurk in this black-owned etsy shop.
From Etsy:
Unearthed treasures meticulously dug and reworked into bold, earthy jewelry by the brainchild of rework is none other than artisan, toni johnson. Since 2006, soulful songstress turned devoted designer continually fed her creative spirit through melting a harmonious blend of precious metals, raw gems and textiles alike producing an organic fusion of the native wild west meets soulful bohemian wildchild.  Traveling across the globe and spending time in nature,Toni’s native home is literally wherever she travels. no boundaries and no territory uncharted can stop this pioneer as she continually sharpened her technical skills as a seamstress, metalsmith, hand-tooling, as well as furthering her education and passion in gemology. Rework is a rare jewel in the fashion industry not only because of its stance on preserving our Mother Earth by using recycled, sustainable materials whenever possible but also fueled by Toni’s passion to educate the masses on the healing properties and purposes of each stone and crystals used.

TheGhanaShop: Ghana themed/made products
Tumblr media
Meet Shop Owner, Ama Cobbina:
The Ghana Shop begun as a pipe dream, an idea that got taken seriously. My husband and I had had enough of UK and I wanted to pursue my creative side with a bit more flair and courage. We came to Ghana, the birthplace of our parents to live off the fat of the land, work for ourselves and live a little more holistically. So far, so good.I love to create, love Kente, Ankara, Felt, Children, Family, Wood, Jewellery and pretty things. Not necessarily in that order.I have a great team that enables me to achieve my dreams. We aim to provide a great service, with excellent communication and quality products but we will let you decide if we have been able to achieve that!
15% of all sales goes towards supporting our local SOS Children's Village Orphanage & School in Kumasi.

AzurSoleilOrganics: Azur Soleil Organics - organic vegan soap & bodyworks
Tumblr media
About the shop owner, Domonique Williams:
I grew up in a small place in the state of Maryland called St. Mary's County. In my opinion it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I spent my youth picking blackberries, plums peaches and all types of fruit. My grandfather used to point out different herbs and plants on our walks in the woods and around my grandparents land. As I grew older my family moved to Washington, D.C. It was so different, but the love of the country and nature always stayed with me. We would always go back to visit on the weekends and spend time on the land and water, this is where I learned that sand was great for exfoliating your feet! As a teenager I spent my Saturdays and summers working with my aunt who is an Esthetician. She specialized in making crèmes, lotions and tonics all from scratch. I learned a lot and I was hooked for life. I recaptured that love in 2003, when complaining to husband about a soap I brought and he said "Make your own", which after many trials and errors I finally did. It was great, and I realized that this was my life's passion. To top that all of I found out after research that my great grandmother was a master lye soap maker, so it was in me all along!

About A. Battiste Handmade Jewelry Co.
Tumblr media
Initially, I was looking to make a few quick bucks selling something, anything, so I figured why not jewelry? I began selling on Etsy under the shop name Afro Chic Greek Jewelry and More. A few months in, things were going well business wise but my personal life got too overwhelming and I had to stop. I truly fell in love with creating jewelry among other things and I am excited to open up with a new name and a better spirit...all of which contribute to a better product. I love what I do and I want others to love it too!
