I heard #MyName was like #HeartlessCity with a female MC and was immediately in. But no. Heartless City and #TimeBetweenDogAndWolf both have issues (overacting, writing, etc), and neither is exactly a "clean" drama. But both are gripping in ways My Name doesn't seem able to manage. There are a few nice visuals, well-done fight scenes, and the idea is great. The violence and swearing are realistic, more than they are gratuitous. But if I'm sitting here analyzing it instead of watching it... 🤷‍♀️ #AhnBoHyun #HanSohee #JangRyul #KimSangHo #LeeHakjoo #ParkHeesoon #YoonKyungho https://www.instagram.com/p/CV0FSQaFAhd/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sometimes he tries to be helpful, sometimes he's just an idiot. Most of the time he's kind of hilarious. #AhnGilKang #AhnSeHa #DalLiandGamjatang #HwangBora #HwangHee #KimMinJae #KwonYul #LeeJeYeon #ParkKyuYoung #Yeonwoo #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CVs1k9ElBJf/?utm_medium=tumblr

It's a drama you have to be in the mood for - and I guess I'm in the mood. Also this drama is making me very hungry. #AhnGilKang #AhnSeHa #DalLiandGamjatang #HwangBora #HwangHee #KimMinJae #KwonYul #LeeJeYeon #ParkKyuYoung #Yeonwoo #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CVng4eKlJOT/?utm_medium=tumblr

After the recent spate of very intense and bloody dramas, I was in the mood for something fluffy. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed the start of #DalliAndTheCockyPrince The trope inversion of a delicate and refined artist/heiress and the brash young nouveau riche boy seemingly obsessed with pigs who crosses paths with her is actually a lot more enjoyable to me than the obnoxious candy falling for the stiff and jerky heir. (This cocky prince is obviously obnoxious, and Dal Li loses her fortune in short order...but at least these things seem to be happening in a different way.) #AhnGilKang #AhnSeHa #DalLiandGamjatang #HwangBora #HwangHee #KimMinJae #KwonYul #LeeJeYeon #ParkKyuYoung #Yeonwoo #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CVlNaSdvlkd/?utm_medium=tumblr

#Voice has been on my list for a while; sadly, it's not going to be ranked very highly. This is...literally a drama about the world's creepiest villain....and he doesn't even show up until half-way through the show. And then, once he shows up, it's just a relief he wasn't there earlier, because he's...that needlessly psychotically creepy, and he wasn't balanced out by the rest of the story. I am evidently not this drama's target audience, because I fail to see how a Voice 2 was made, let alone Voice 3 and 4. XD *spoiler, if anybody cares* Mostly, I'm thankful I watched this AFTER watching Her Private Life, because it's rare enough that I /enjoy/ a rom-com, and it's likely the chance of that would have been destroyed if I'd seen Kim Jae-Wook in Voice first. *end spoiler* XD Also, having first really seen Jang Hyuk in My Country: The New Age (as the ever-intriguing Lee Bang Won), I was sorely disappointed in his character in this drama. #JangHyuk #LeeHana #KimJaeWook #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CVfcJbOlcH6/?utm_medium=tumblr

This is one of the cases where I think I like the IDEA of a drama more than the EXECUTION of it...I loved the unreliable narrator and getting one version of the story only to find out someone was lying or memories were implanted, and no one could be trusted, not even the MC's own mind. But in the end the drama seemed to prioritize complexity over clarity and there were a many, many holes completely ignored by the plot. #NamgoongMin #TheVeil #BlackSun #HwangHee #JangYoungNam #JoBokRae #KimJiEun #ParkHaSun #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CVdFbZ6A4CB/?utm_medium=tumblr

Well. Thankfully the slasher vibes faded after the first few episodes (after one more mission where the plan was literally to be captured and tortured and then escape by slaughtering a house full of horrible people.) Unfortunately, so did the create-a-bomb-from-a-paper-clip awesomeness of Ji Hyuk. Still, Namgoong Min managed to continue carrying the entire drama with a few flickers of his gaze, which was fascinating to watch. Also, even as Ji Hyuk insisted he was a loner, one person after another stepped up to help him and defend him. On the one hand, this made for a brilliant bit of character: WHY are people so willing to risk everything for this tortured agent who responds to all their overtures with a look or a grunt??? How does he inspire this loyalty??? On the other hand, the drama never really explained it, relying I suppose, on the fact that the watcher would appreciate Namgoon Min enough not to question it #NamgoongMin #TheVeil #BlackSun #HwangHee #JangYoungNam #JoBokRae #KimJiEun #ParkHaSun #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CVaflbXATyk/?utm_medium=tumblr

So. Started watching The Veil. It's...way more slasher-violent than I anticipated. But also Namgoon Min is way more intriguing here than anywhere else I've seen him. I haven't decided if the internal logic of the show hangs together yet. (Ji Hyuk's former self really was a jerk to him; like why would you set yourself up like that??) But it cracks me up that he brings the classic suit-and-tie NIS agent version, as well as the scarred-leather-jacket-wearing rogue agent version. Not to mention the lost-on-an-island version. Way to have your cake and eat it too, show. #NamgoongMin #TheVeil #BlackSun #HwangHee #JangYoungNam #JoBokRae #KimJiEun #ParkHaSun #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CVZHJ6UMUJ_/?utm_medium=tumblr

Ok, this was such a running theme in the drama...I had to crack up when it happened again in the final episode. #deviljudge #jisung #parkjinyoung #kimminjung #parkgyuyoung #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CTyFxRfMbcY/?utm_medium=tumblr

Most of this show was one long playing out of the "break the cutie" trope...and so many people judged Ga On for who he was and the decisions he made. Many even judged Yo Han for allowing Ga On to make those decisions, even though Yo Han points out in-show that Ga On is an adult and can make his own choices. But you have to admit the second time Ga On comes barreling into Yo Han's mansion with a knife in hand to stab Yo Han that a lot of those choices are all-fired stupid. And I think part of the problem was that Yo Han was thinking 3 steps ahead at all times and had a psychotic archenemy who was apparently thinking about a mile ahead of everyone else, and then there was Ga On, who spent the entire drama being caught flat-footed and reacting to everything, constantly unsure of what to believe or who to trust. To be fair, he was a mouse who was dropped down in the middle of a tiger fight - he was the definition of Not Prepared For This. The fact that he didn't run for his life, but rather kept showing up and at least TRYING to get a handle on the chaos? It has to count for something. That said, episode 16 SUFFERED from a lack of Kang Yo Han. Watching Ga On run around like a lost puppy was painful - he had no idea what he was doing and that leaves me less than hopeful about the task of bringing justice to the country. 😜 #deviljudge #jisung #parkjinyoung #kimminjung #parkgyuyoung #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CTuX7o6AnP-/?utm_medium=tumblr

Oy, picture quality...but this scene was such an excellent example...Why do people defend the indefensible? Why do they stay loyal to leaders who prove over and over they are unfit to lead? Sometimes it's because if they were to admit that indefensibility, they would have to admit their own complicity. Both they and their leaders were looking for the best of bad choices, for the thing that would work for their own interests (if villains) or at least help the most number of people (if not strictly villains). Very few of them were looking for the right thing to do for its own sake. Which did lead t some interesting gray areas between the main characters... But when it comes to villain or...not-quite villain...Kang Yo Han at least was up front about his beliefs to the people he was close to - "No one is innocent. The law is meaningless in the face of power. Everything is a means to an end." He knew what he was about and he really didn't hide it. Even from his enemies ("Yes, I'm playing with you. It's fun.") Certain other characters...were not. Which is why their betrayal hurt even when they'd been suspicious from the beginning. They manipulated and lied their way through and when those who trusted them finally realized the sheer depths of that manipulation... well, ow. #deviljudge #jisung #parkjinyoung #kimminjung #parkgyuyoung #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits #koreandrama #theblackhatclub #blackhatclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CTKOo3TAQkj/?utm_medium=tumblr

There was an...uncomfortable sort of political commentary present throughout this drama. But as I thought about it, if it's making me uncomfortable, it's because I can see the similarities between this story and current politics & that is less the fault of the story than it is of certain politicians. I did find it interesting to see people from other countries talking about how the drama's president reminded them of political leaders in their own countries...which just goes to say, Heaven help the current political situation around the world. #deviljudge #jisung #parkjinyoung #kimminjung #parkgyuyoung #kdrama #kdramaedit #kdramaedits https://www.instagram.com/p/CTH4KgAsPCL/?utm_medium=tumblr
