Also i love how the writers took a complete u-turn from the whole discourse about them cheaply deploying cancer as a plot point for shock value - like, yo, she got sick, but she was diagnosed in time, got treated and got better!

But then what really pushed her off the cliff into a rock bottom?

Workplace harrassment, and depression. And her fiance resenting her for being depressed.

Just wow. I am so down for this. Like now i cannot even hate the ex because he really was there for her throughout her treatment. But not everyone is cutout to be partners to depressed folk and im saying that AS a chronically depressed person. He's hovering around her clearly as a way to soothe his guilt - coz he's not really a bad person - he's just lost seokryu's trust. And this kind of trust, doesn't often come back, once broken. I think he will get that soon and leave.

This is the kind of nuanced writing i expect from my writers. So glad i trusted my gut and stuck around (i mean let's be honest i wouldn't have dropped it anyway - even if it meant i had to tolerate bad writing to only get to look at haein *cough* SNOWDROP *cough*)

But anyway, I'm veryyyyy interested how they resolve all the layers opening in this week and get seokryu to let seung hyo in. Because that's the endgame ❤️🤌🏼 our chef x architect power couple 👯‍♀️

there's this line by richard siken that i can't help but think of whenever i witness seunghyo's feelings for seokryu: "sometimes you get so close to someone you end up on the other side of them."

it's so true. seunghyo is the loneliest cartographer of care in the world — mapping the memories built between him and seokryu. analyzing every look, every word, every touch. labeling the continents of distance between the two of them with his longing — studying the seas of silence stretching them past friendship and into something infinitely more fragile.

bae seokryu; his best friend. his worst wish.

someone whose breaths he has counted like coins from a foreign land — someone whose every move has been canvassed in his dreams. someone who is still so fundamentally out of reach, so unknowable — someone who has been hiding a secret so huge that it swallows him whole.

this episode truly broke me. the ache in seunghyo's eyes as he watches seokryu pull away from him — the helpless haunting he makes of his face when he finds seokryu in his bed. the pure sincerity of his smile as he watches seokryu light up as she eats.

there is wearing your heart on your sleeve — and then there is seunghyo: letting love wear you as decoration.

Don't we all deserve a friend like moeum in our lives? She was the one at the airport when seokryu came back, she was the one who smiled and supported her dream when seokryu said she wants to pursue cooking, and she is the one who just leaned in for a hug without pestering seokryu with questions. Even though people react in different ways and we've seen everyone's way of letting sadness out in tonight's ep 10 but moeum... my gawd this girl MOEUM IS SUCH A GEM!!! She'll forever be my favorite girl♡ I hope everyone who reads this post gets to have a genuine and selfless friend like moeum. I mean it! ☆

there's a translated scrap of plato that eventually found its way into a letter sent by emily dickinson: "i wish you a kinder sea."

seascape scenes in k-dramas can often be so trite — but love next door's characterization was beautiful. seunghyo pitching seokryu into the water might seem like an act of anger — but it's actually liberation. it's a rebirth; a re-emergence — a place of salt that can settle her tears. water is renewal: a washing place for wounds. a tincture to clear away the bitter and broken; and allow the touch of tenderness.

though seokryu is scared of water; in the sea she is safe: the waves hold the weight of her hurt and desperation as she screams at seungyo. he knows what she needs — he has always known what she needs. he stands still — takes the tips of her fingers striking him as what it is — finally, a surrender to all the emotions she refused to succumb to. a clearing of the air. an opening into a freer intimacy.

there were so many beautiful moments during this episode: the power of a simple "we'll hit rock bottom together." seokryu's ex was heartbreakingly right — what she needed wasn't someone to lift her up, but someone to fall down with her. when someone is in pain you sit with them in the dark; and look up at the impossibility of light together.

this is what seungyo has always understood so effortlessly about seokryu — that this is love: to climb down into the ravine of regret and raw hurt where the person you love has fallen — not to pull them out; but give them company. when people are in agony you must give them the dignity of their deep hurt — you must nurture the narrow, serrated edges of their sorrow. seunghyo taking seokryu to see off her ex — folding his coat around her to create a private hollow to express her heartache: it speaks of a man who understands that grief is not meant to be overcome; but gathered in the hands and given respect. attention. understanding.

this is love: to say "when you cry, it is my eyes that fill with salt. when you scream, it is my throat that burns. when you fall down, it is my knees that bruise in the color of your eyes."

this is love: to wish someone a kinder sea. a clearer day. a warmer hug.

While I think the betrayal of being kept in the dark hurt Seung Hyo it’s very clear he was more hurt and upset that not only did she have to go through something like that but that she also went through it without the support of any of them. He wasn’t crying just for himself but also for her and what she went through/is going through.
