Dream was surprised when Nightmare invited him to "talk-face-to-face," but he came to the meeting as agreed, alone. Especially since there was no one to come get. Ink had died not long ago, and though Dream knew of his friend's actual immortality, he still had no idea when he would be reborn.

The brother was casually relaxed, and even sweet as they exchanged greetings. Dream took a long look at Nightmare's face, and stubbornly failed to see what the catch was. In all this time, not once had anyone mentioned the topic they were about to discuss.

When he asked if they would have a truce, Nightmere was slightly surprised, and then laughed heartily but evilly, proving how easy it was to deceive the keeper of light dreams. Dream step back, intending to leave the suddenly threatening world as soon as possible, but he heard a faint chuckle behind him and felt a knife pressed against his neck. He was caught again...

But this time Ink wouldn't help him.
