Author Geri Spencer Hunger
There are authors who can develop good plots and there are authors who create great characters; Geri Spencer Hunter is that rare author who can blend the two skills to draft an extraordinary novel. The Summer of my Fifteenth Year is an extraordinary novel. Hunter peeks at the delicate underbelly of an ordinary family; she uncovers and skillfully exposes its secrets and lies. The intensely drawn members of the Netter family appear no more or less dysfunctional than any American family, yet the unexpected events of Etta=s fifteenth summer change the family forever. Geri Spencer Hunter's novel will earn a place with the great ones and long after reading about the Netter family, you will think about them.

April 7 marks the 100th birthday of American jazz singer Billie Holiday.
Her life and early death at age 44 have been the inspiration for generations of singers, from Janis Joplin to Amy Winehouse. “Lady Day” (as nicknamed by frequent collaborator and close friend, saxophonist Lester Young) had a meteoric rise and a fast crash fueled by drugs and booze. She has become the very definition of both the glorious strong-willed diva and the tragic lonely chanteuse.
One hundred years later, Holiday is still the source of inspiration, examination, and countless remakes. However, forgotten in her legacy is the woman who risked her own safety and career, stood up to power brokers, and held a mirror to a racist nation with a recording that Time magazine called the “song of the century.”

This multi-talented man is also a husband, father and activist, dedicating time to the Center for Fathers & Families through workshops for fathers, mothers, and children. Beyond that, his own organization, T-Mo Entertainment, produces poetry and music events throughout Sacramento--bringing Terry’s work, as well as that of many others, to the Sacramento community.
Segment 2:
Guest: Joe Leavy Internationally influenced in his music, for more than 10 years, Joe worked overseas playing R&B, pop and jazz nightly in popular clubs and hot spots throughout Japan, in bands backing other artists.  His time there was both financially and musically productive.  Family led him to return the United States, taking his gifts to the Las Vegas market, where he once again, kept busy in the local music scene. Over time, the grind burned him out, and he moved to California, set his music aside and opened a construction company, creating a lifestyle more conducive to focusing on his wife and children.
