yaa'rai hisses his displeasure as he's torn from his feast, his bloodied blade distorting maw-jagged with the suggestion of greater form before settling back into the tangible and familiar. the pupil of his eye contracts to a point, star-bright against the void and its roving tendrils.

"my contentment may not matter to you, master, but my compliance does. for example—" what had been a featherweight at the end of tarhos' arm suddenly multiplies; the blade falls as if beholden to its own impossible gravity, the point sinking deep into the mud and viscera, where it becomes utterly immovable. yaa'rai rolls his eye with an air of unbearable smugness.

"you can't even swing me unless i shoulder the effort. there has only ever been one capable of wielding me by her own strength, and you will never be her equal."

"you know what i like most about you?" the blade's voice is a lazy drawl, dripping with satisfaction after a full meal. "you're not a morally complicated individual. i could force myself to be content with you."

Creak of metal, stretch of leather, a growled exhale of agitation as gauntlets tighten their hold round the crossgaurds of the damnable blade, its point entombed in the still-warm abdomen of some nameless welp incapable of saving himself from a far superior adversary. Disappointing, he thought, as the youngling all-too-easily fell to his assault. He admired the courage to not beg, though to die in some banal attempt of protection, self-sacrifice, sullied any amount of respect the corpse might have once earned.

He stands, muscled tensed, as his eyes gaze upon the spectacle of bloodshed and viscera. The stench of iron and mud filter through his helm just as easily as the coiling voice of his weapon.

" Your contentment matters not. "

His voice is low, aggrieved, as if there is some slight in the other's words. The blade is pulled violently from the earth, muscle and flesh tearing with the upward thrust.

" You are a blade, a weapon, and you will be used as I see fit. "

"obviously. you do know how to use a sword, yes?" yaa'rai offers an approximation of a haughty sniff; lack of respiratory system be damned. "it would be difficult to wield me if i wasn't at your side."

semi-corporeal tendrils slowly wrap themselves around mora's wrist, creeping up to its elbow and tightening with an iron grip. his burning gaze slants to bore into the illithid's own, hungry and pale with hate. "and you won't leave me in some dusty archive, master. you need to use me. i need to be used."

Matching your freak is beautiful and all but what you really need is a boy who's infatuated with your freak. Down bad for your freak. Deeply intrigued by your freak. Eager to see more of your freak. Supportive of your freak. Gets bricked up witnessing your freak, even.

there's a second thunk as the blade topples flat to the ground, followed by a groan that's half sound and half continuous exhale. just his luck. he'd hoped the void would spit him out next to someone with promise, for once; a youth with heroic aspirations or a grizzled veteran would have been a pleasant change. instead, he gets this.

"i don't care about your situation. i'm currently dealing with my own, in case you hadn't noticed," yaa'rai spits. the space around his eye distorts, tendrils unfurling into a writhing mantle. "where is this? no, don't answer that; it hardly matters. it's somewhere i don't want to be. that's all i need to know."

it's with great effort that he orients himself upright, his burning eye drowning the cell with light. "you have a choice, my fatalistic friend. either wait for this lodun to wrap his greedy fingers about my hilt, or claim me yourself—and we can chop his head off instead."

❝ oooh, this isn't a ‘ha ha funny’ laugh, ❞ drifter snorts out, regaining his breath.  ❝ this is a----uuh----sure. why not? laugh. ❞ because of course he'd be the guy to find some ancient, obviously cursed talking sword. not that he drew the line on weirdness with any clarity, clearly, but the circumstances were still damning. and it's just the sword's luck that it happened to manifest with a weighty thud in some deep, dark, purposefully forgotten dungeon of duviri just out of reach of the one person who didn't care at all that he WAS talking to an ancient, obviously cursed, talking sword. if the sword was to be believed, anyways. he sighed, laying back down in his cell. ❝ guess lodun will have something new and shiny to chop my head off with. ❞
