when it’s 2018 and you’re still drawing from gossip girl but i just really need this very epic, very messy triangle based on serena / nate / blair. so here goes a really crappily written request!!!

gwen and the blair have been best friends for as long as they can remember both being cali natives and having run in the same social circles. their parents were the upper crust of society, the people brandishing too much money and too much power. lavish parties and even more lavish estates, the kind of money that’d make you forget how to be a proper parent to your children. they found each other at a time when they really needed each other - gwen always the more lively, light hearted, free spirited of the two where blair was always quieter, the wheels always turning in her head, determined and ferocious.

as they grew older the purity of their friendship got muddled with jealousy and competition from blairs side who in her defense has always felt overshadowed by gwen. the fact that gwen is so immediately likable and never seems to have to do much to get what she wants vs blair whose had to work for legit everything and whose icy demeanor keeps people from showering her with the same kind of adoration adds fuels to the fire. it also doesn’t help that blair got wait listed to a university that gwen was able to breeze into. however, gwen’s always been sort of comfortable letting blair be the leader of the two, the queen bee if you will even if blair has probably never fully felt like gwen wont try to usurp her one day. shes protective and for good reason, with her own family life messy and a hyper critical mother whose probably just always been nicer to gwen then shes ever been to her and honestly, she has issues but she’s a star and just cant see it.

which is why blair leaned so much on the nate, the boy her parents practically pushed her into. he was the good on paper guy - checking off all her credentials and really, he just fit the lifestyle she always wanted for herself. did she love him? she did and she does still. he is her first love after all but their relationship has never had any spark, any passion, any fire. still with blair dating nate, they all got super close (which they had probably all been before the dating but once he was around all the time, it just made it easier). he immediately connected with gwen in a way he probably hasn't with anyone else and has been completely enamored with her for as long as he can remember. she is in a lot of ways like a breath of fresh air to him and the two just gradually started to hang out more and more.

it was when they started to hang out without blair that things became complicated and his feelings for gwen only grew. nate’s had a very repressed life with a controlling father and waspy mother who’ve both laid out a plan for him and expected him to follow it. he’s basically been suffocated by his family and their expectations his whole life, trying to live up to them and whatever image they projected and gwen became like an escape. the more they hung out, the more he wanted more and then one night, they both got drunk and slept together. it was all the things it would never be with blair and when gwen woke up the next day in his bed, she went into a panic. the guilt started to eat away at her almost instantly and she went on a week long bender that culminated with her falling off a table at a party and then finding out whoops, shes pregnant. 

terrified. uncertain. confused. all the emotions really. gwen’s family stepped in after all the drinking and drugging and shuffled her away to a rehab far far away. she told exactly zero people she was leaving or where she was actually going and spent the entire summer in europe where everyone thought she was partying with royalty in france but really was organizing an abortion and attending “life rehab”. blair was rightfully hurt by gwens sudden departure and what felt like the last of her support system while nate could not stop replaying their night together. he stayed with blair, whether out of convenience or a sense of duty or familiarity and while there relationship seemed to get slightly better over the summer once gwen came back into the picture all dewy and sun kissed and new highlights, it was game over.

cue the iconic “i didn’t come back for you” scene from the pilot and a quiet storm that’s been brewing since she left. gwen’s basically been acting like nothing happened and has fallen back into a semi normal pattern with the blair, sitting on this secret and hoping to god that nate will just let it go and squash it down like she has. nate has been trying in vain to get gwen alone so they can talk and blair, blair is starting to notice that her boyfriends been acting more distant than usual ....

all in all, it’s a real big mess this group has made. i’d like to pick up from there with gwen having been back at uni for a couple of months and things just slowly spiraling. nate is on the verge of breaking up with blair unbeknownst to her and i just can’t wait for the shit show. since they all grew up together, they should be 21 to 22 and cali natives but other details are completely up to you. while they don’t have to be identical to their show counterparts i’d like for it to be close enough that it feels authentic. if its not obvious, the blair and nate will not end up together nor will this devolve into a poly but we can still make it fun and dramatic for all involved.
