Internship Diaries : ZALORA

Last November 24, 2015, I received a text message from ZALORA Philippines that they are inviting me for an interview at 10 AM the next day. So I went to their office all the way from Bulacan.

I was really excited when I got this text message from Ms. Faye. I prepared for the interview by searching for questions that were normally asked during interviews. (Speaking of interviews, I have an upcoming mock interview on February 2. Huhu guide me Lord, please.) So the next day, I woke up early to prepare. I don’t really know how to go there from Bulacan, so I searched what is the best route to take and I also asked my classmate who lives near the place. He said that I can take MRT and from Guadalupe station, I can ride a jeep going to Market! Market! The place that I had in mind was wrong, that’s why when I already saw Market! Market!, I started looking for ZALORA. Luckily, there’s someone that I asked that ZALORA is on the right side of where I currently was. So I walked and walked until I saw ZALORA.  

When I saw ZALORA, I can’t help but to be amazed by the office because I can see the studio where they are taking all the pictures. The kuya in the reception handed me a piece of paper that I need to fill out.

After filling the paper out, Ms. Faye asked us to follow her. While following her to the pantry, you will see many cubicles that I think is the department that is handling the sales of ZALORA.

The picture’s blurry because I was walking when I took the picture. I really want to capture everything, that’s why. So, we reached the pantry.

I really loved walking through the office with the many cubicles in it because I can really feel that I was in a legit office and I was really excited to work. So when we reached the pantry, Ms. Faye let us sit first and wait for her to call us for the interview. While waiting, I was observing the environment in ZALORA. I noticed that in my right side was like the 10 commandments of ZALORA. 

I also noticed that there were small offices that has a name on it.

Okay, so here’s an example. Ms. Faye told us that the Philippines office is the main office since we are in the Philippines and most of the meetings were held there. (Hi, ate!) So while waiting for my turn, I took a selfie! (I was a bit shy to smile because there might be a person walking behind me)

So the time came when I had to be interviewed. Ms. Faye asked me questions about ZALORA and I had a hard time answering those because I didn’t searched for the background of the company. This is really a must when you will be interviewed, I need to remember that for my next interview. The interview with Ms. Faye went good, it was casual; so after that, she endorsed me to the supervisor of the Retouching Department where I will be assigned into if I will do my internship here. She came with me at the department and introduced me to sir Jermaine. After that, we went to the pantry again because that’s where sir Jermaine interviewed me. He asked me some questions about Photoshop and then he asked me if I want to start my OJT immediately at ZALORA. I became honest and told them that I was also waiting for GMA because that’s where my mother really wants me to take my OJT. They understood and they gave me until Friday that week to confirm. I was at ZALORA for only 20 minutes and I instantly called my mom after being interviewed. I told her that I can start the next day but she told me that I should complete my requirements first for GMA. So I waited for Fully Booked to open and strolled around there for a while.

I bought things that were needed in GMA at Fully Booked and I was also contacting my mommy on what to do. After that, I went to Artwork to buy gifts for my two sisters. I also took a selfie because the light’s on point.

After shopping, I had my lunch at KFC; just a little treat for myself for doing great during the interview. After eating, I told my mother that I can start the next day that’s why she suggested for me to contact GMA and ask when the orientation is. They said that it will be on December 2, 2015. My mommy told me to accept the internship in ZALORA and just be absent on that day to go to GMA. So I texted Ms. Faye about it.

I was really excited for my internship! After texting Ms. Faye, I found my way home by taking the BGC bus. At first, I was confused because there’s two terminal there but I asked the guard there and bought a stored value card so I just have to tap it every time I will ride the bus.

The next day, I waited for Ms. Faye because she will be the one who will orient and tour me around ZALORA. After the tour, she accompanied me to the office where I will be assigned into.

The office was very cozy but it was a bit dark. I really liked it there because it was just like our classroom, cold and people are just approachable and there’s also music playing every time! The first question they asked me was if I know how to play Counter Strike. I said yes and I really got excited! During my first day, they oriented me on what I will be doing and they let me see the manual for retouching pictures of ZALORA. During lunch time, we will eat and wait for everyone to play Counter Strike. I liked my job in ZALORA but I can’t see myself working in that environment because I will only be using Photoshop the whole internship experience. But what I didn’t told you is that they are giving internship allowance! I only got my first allowance because on December 9, I resigned. My mommy really wanted me to do my OJT in GMA so I told sir Jermaine that I need to go and he let me and told me to not worry. Now, I miss ZALORA because it was really a great experience!

“Meg, bakit ayaw mo kay Wilson? Single naman sya at single ka rin naman?” Nag-umpisa na naman sila sa mga panunukso nila sa’tin. Nakakatawa, maging sila hindi makamove on sa’ting dalawa. Sinagot ko s’ya ng “Ayoko na ‘no. Sawa na ‘kong iyakan yang si Wilson.” Pero seryoso sawa na ‘kong iyakan ka. Natatawa ka lang sa nangyayari. Siguro nga wala lang din para sa’yo yung nangyari sa’ting dalawa. Sumagot naman si Jam ng “Ikaw kasi ‘Son eh, pabago-bago ka ng babae.” Hindi kita masisisi, ganyan ka lang siguro talaga. Hay ayoko na, lubayan mo na isip at damdamin ko, Wilson. Palayain mo na ‘ko.
