more cinema in no particular order
- tensions in Liurnia between Caria and the Academy and Ranni having to step up in her mother’s place and maintain diplomatic relations with the academy sorcerers, then Liurnia erupting into chaos when Ranni disappears
- flashback scenes to when Radagon was still Rennala’s husband and then to when he left vs Ranni seeing him in Leyndell in the present day and not even knowing what to say to him
- Ranni weaving her spell to protect Rennala knowing its the last thing she can do to help her and feeling guilty that she’s leaving her
- Tiche being killed in the assassins’ flight from Leyndell and Alecto snapping and turning on Ranni and Ranni’s faction imprisoning her but alienating the rest of the assassins
- Ranni and Rykard discussing future plans of rebellion with Rykard promising to challenge Maliketh when the time is right
- I don’t think Godwyn would even be that present in the narrative it would be more about what Ranni projects onto him rather than him as a person… like him acting as the sacrificial lamb for all of Ranni’s resentment towards the golden order even though he personally didn’t do all those things
Good news: you've been selected to write/direct/produce (whatever) an Elden Ring movie. Which story do you choose to tell?
OK first of all im setting aside the question of what part of elden ring makes the most sense to adapt and what parts of the story would be better left vague etc etc because this is MY adaptation and its what my heart wants <3
personally I’d want an adaptation about the demigod characters the most because they’re so complex and morally grey and I think their family drama would be SO compelling played out onscreen. instead of a movie I’d want a limited TV series thats like less than 10 episodes so there’s more space to flesh out the different characters and their relationships. the show would be about the Night of the Black Knives with Ranni as the central character… it would follow the background, planning, and execution of the plot with the actual Night of the Black Knives being the climax of the show. the episode-to-episode plot would consist of Ranni bringing together all the different elements of her plan like recruiting the black knife assassins, getting Rykard involved, stealing a shard of Destined Death, and forging the black knives, while at the same time she’s navigating the politics of being an empyrean and heir to Caria and having to interact with both sides of her family, keeping her plan a secret and deciding who she can trust.
the central theme of the show would be Ranni’s fear of becoming a pawn of higher powers and her struggle for autonomy amidst the destinies thrust upon her… maybe the very first scene could be a young Ranni’s first meeting with the Two Fingers and learning of her empyreanhood but its shot in a way that emphasizes the Fingers’ dark and twisted appearance in a way that makes the announcement feel like a death sentence and you can see the horror on Ranni’s face!! and the rest of her storyline would really dig into why she’s so afraid of being controlled while also getting into her being caught between two family lineages and their fraught history… the family drama between Radagon leaving Rennala and how it’s affected Ranni and her brothers and the resentment they feel, and how these tensions build up towards the Night of the Black Knives and Godwyn’s murder!!!
some other various moments I’ve already designed written directed and shot in my mind palace:
- Ranni revealing her plans to her Carian vassals and them standing behind her and pledging their loyalty to her as her mother’s heir… Blaidd and Iji of course but also the Carian knights and nobles like the ghost waiting for Ranni to return at Caria Manor and the ghost in the Study Hall who begs the tower to “obscure the transgressions of the princess” and Preceptor Miriam who now guards her discarded flesh
- specific scene with Blaidd pledging his loyalty to Ranni and it’s beautiful and endearing but also uncertain because Ranni and Iji know the Two Fingers could use him against her
- Ranni visiting Volcano Manor and bringing Rykard into the plot, trusting that he would understand her and wouldn’t rat her out… him telling her he’s been waiting for a chance to strike back at the Golden Order for years
- Ranni visiting Rennala and telling her everything and saying goodbye but Rennala not even being lucid enough to fully understand what she’s saying… :(
- Ranni and Rykard stealing a shard of the Rune of Death by descending into Maliketh’s room suspended from the ceiling mission impossible style ok this one is a joke but imagine
- Ranni and Marika having a conversation about what it means to be a god where Marika bitterly laments the loss of her free will, making Ranni abandon all doubt that what she’s doing is absolutely necessary. oh yeah I’m not subscribing to the theory that Marika was in on the plot I think its more interesting if she’s not in on it but she and Ranni still sympathize with each other despite everything
and maybe cliche but the last scene of the show could be Ranni’s doll eye opening. end-credit scene where Godwyn’s dead eye also opens like in the story trailer. ok that’s it where’s my TV deal

(eye-of-yelough main blog, sorry if me showing up in your notifs is a lot lately i’m. having a dlc moment and i love your thoughts and art…)
i’ve been thinking so much about hornsent (both npc and culture) and how they recontextualise aspects of the base game… but for some reason the main thing i can’t stop thinking about is the Dung Eater and Hornsent somehow meeting. How would that possibly go lmao?????
also just in general it seems kind of a wasted opportunity that there was no acknowledgement of the dung eater in the dlc :( could’ve been inch resting.
no need to apologize lol thank you so much! :3 ok this would be kind of an insane meetup which first requires me to explain a bunch about omen vs. hornsent… essentially, omen seem to exist in a different manner than hornsent do because they are “cursed,” and their “accursed” blood gives them abilities that hornsent don’t seem to have — their cursed blood can manifest as a kind of brownish flame, like the flame projectiles the omen enemies produce and the flames Morgott produces upon his phase transition. omen are also described as souls in a unique kind of torment, with “evil spirits” taunting them in their nightmares. so when the Dung Eater talks about “the curse,” he’s not just talking about people being born with horns, there actually IS a curse…
"Curse grown on a corpse killed and defiled by the Dung Eater. A tender pox afflicted with omen horns. The Dung Eater cultivates the seedbed curse on corpses. By doing so he prevents dead souls returning to the Erdtree, leaving them forever cursed." (Seedbed Curse)
“defiling” someone with the curse seems to make them omen in nature, and prevents their soul from returning to the Erdtree because omen are born cut off from grace (Morgott is grace-GIVEN). this just isn’t something that happens in the Land of Shadow… hornsent souls already have nothing to do with the Erdtree (there is no Erdtree in the Land of Shadow), and growing horns isn’t a “curse” that can be spread, they’re natural growths originating from the crucible. you won’t see any of the omen enemies from the base game anywhere in the DLC, and obviously there aren’t hornsent in the base game! so the difference is that under the laws of the Erdtree, omen are sort of inherently cursed, while in the Land of Shadow hornsent just kind of exist.
so if the Dung Eater and Hornsent met, they really wouldn’t be on the same page at all because they have totally different ideas of what it means to have horns in each of their realities! Dung Eater would probably mistakenly think of Hornsent as an omen because he would have no idea about the hornsent as a society due to them existing in a realm sealed away. he has a strange relationship with the omen…
“Malformed helm resembling an Omen with its horns cut off. Worn by the Dung Eater, their form is a vision of the landscape of his mind, and of his appearance as he wished to see it. The heart of an Omen without the body to match; could there be a crueler existence? What does it matter, then, if the curse claims it all?” (Omen Greaves)
Dung Eater probably feels very deeply that there’s something inherently “cursed” about his being, and identifies with the omen in this way and wishes he were physically cursed like them… so he seeks to create a reality where everything is cursed. I think Dung Eater would identify with Hornsent and project this idea of being cursed onto him, when it doesn’t actually make sense to do so! on Hornsent’s end, he’d obviously be confused by this, because yes the people of the Erdtree see the hornsent as impure beings but they aren’t literally cursed… he wouldn’t know anything about what omen are like in the lands of the Erdtree. you also have to remember that the Dung Eater wears armor that’s like cosplaying as an omen with its horns cut off, which would be extremely disturbing to a hornsent specifically because horns are sacred objects to them, and they wouldn’t be familiar with this practice of excising horns.
so yeah basically Hornsent and the Dung Eater come from what are essentially different realities and as such have totally different ideas about what a person with horns is. which would make Dung Eater act weirdly familiar and Hornsent deeply disgusted and disturbed which to be fair is how most people react to this dude anyway

ive been listening to sote ost and jori’s track gotta be one of my all time favs. love the pace and how subdued but layered it is. esp after death knight one - which is far more triumphant and boastful - jori’s sounds all the more idk almost bitter in comparison
yesss Jori’s music is so good!! I absolutely love the low, dark strings and that the piece really lets the texture of the double bass shine… and the choir is so deep that it almost sounds like throat singing? “bitter” is a really good word for it, I’d also call it dark and moody… I think it really fits the hornsent inquisitors thematically because of the nasty work they did, but also because Jori is almost a kind of tragic figure as the sole guardian of the frenzy-infested abyssal woods. really good track ^_^

my elden ring family asoiaf house headcanons.
carians - martells. a lot of people think theyre starks but that is a very surface level comparison to me. their whole relationship to the golden order seems very reminiscent of history between the martells and the targaryens. also stark only really makes sense for ranni while martell makes much more sense for rykard and radahn as well as her.
radmarika - targaryens. as mentioned above the golden order (especially radmarika) and the carians have a history reminiscent of the targaryens and the martells. they are also the main ruling family of elden ring with many family secrets. plus the in/selfcest is also there.
golden lineage - baratheons. first of all the storm association. the baratheons occupy the stormlands while the golden lineage mainly occupies stormhill and limgrave. their general focus on athleticism and traditional masculinity can be seen very much through godfrey and aspirational through godrick. morgott especially reminds me of stannis. mohg is a bit of an outlier though because he is very tyrion lannister to me.
