"Unbelievably draconian outcomes" so billionaires can get more tax breaks.
The propaganda is working.
Vulnerable Americans and their families are going to suffer immeasurably.

Hi! So. I became aware of a European Citizens' petition that I'd be ready grateful if you could share or sign (if you're from the EU).
It has a rather silly name ("Stop Destroying Videogames") but I believe the reasons are very fair.
The objectives are to:
Require videogame publishers in the EU to keep games they sell or license in a functional (playable) state after sale.
Prevent publishers from remotely disabling games unless they first provide reasonable ways to preserve functionality without further involvement.
This is basically a way to stop service games you pay for / online games from just disappearing because the publishers said so. They argue it shouldn't be happening because the publishers are basically stealing the product the people paid for and it's a loss of cultural and artistic history. They have multiple European official articles they use as an argument to uphold this initiative, so it has grounds in the European Union legal system.
They also point out they're only asking for the publishers to leave the game in a playable state (making an offline version for example) and not to keep updating or making resources for it. It's just to not lose the game.

Since it's pride month I'm going to say. Can we stop making fun of adults who don't have sex. Not even particularly asexuals, just general people who don't like sex personally or don't want to have it for whatever reason. It's just not great to portray people who don't have sex as weird losers or naive little kids or whatever, even as a joke

If you want an explanation of why the US has fallen so quickly to the right-wing on trans issues, look at how the New York Times - seen socially as a generally liberal outlet - coverage of trans issues has changed.
Here's NYT coverage of trans issues in the mid-1990's:

And here's NYT coverage in the mid-2020's:

30 years and we've moved this far backwards because of a conscious effort by media outlets on the center and center-left to elevate anti-trans bigotry as legitimate concerns.
Public opinion is not static, and what we learned in the fight for LGBTQ rights is that public opinion is greatly affected by how the media portrays a group or issue. We saw a huge swing in the approval of marriage equality and gay and lesbian relationships in large part because of positive media portayals of LGBTQ people.
The problem is, conservatives have also figured this out. They have had outlets like Fox and WSJ for decades, but they couldn't reach into the other side because of the toxic reputation of their outlets with anyone outside their 35% bubble. It wasn't until conservative billionaires (disguising themselves as centrists) started buying out liberals outlets and installing conservative editors in the past decade or so that this really changed. The ramp up in the past 3-4 years feels less stark because many liberals have been frog boiled into accepting conservative propaganda laundered through a "liberal" outlet.

if you're in Europe PLEASE consider signing the Stop Destroying Games initiative. the deadline is July 31st 2025. i've posted about it before; it aims to create legislation for publishers to stop killing the games you pay for and to provide an end-of-life plan for live-service products. thank you!!!
