gaining a greater understanding of politics has not made me more hopeful -- but i didn't need it -- i have hope aplenty. it hasn't made me more hopeless either. if anything, it has given me more of two things: curiosity and acceptance.

the first one, oh it's good for sure. curiosity is a perfect quality in my eyes.

acceptance, though. what does it mean? do i like it? i'm not sure. it brings a form of serenity with itself -- whenever i understand more of why a certain decision was made, why the process was delayed, why everything takes so long -- i usually understand that it's not because of some evil agenda or inscrutable conspiracy. (i doubt anything that organised can actually ever happen). it's people doing people things. being selfish. being selfless. being both at once. being guarded, cautious. protective. unsure. stupid. there's no wicked demon too big for us to defeat.

but it looks like there is a sprawling ecosystem of human and nonhuman structures, and it may be too big for us to figure out.

and again, acceptance. i don't know that i love that. inevitably, it means accepting that people will suffer. and i think that there's a part of me that has set a threshold of "acceptable pain", left it on low, and that refuses to make peace with pain that ranks higher.

basically means "first hurdle cleared. now for the hard part."

u can support me by hoping that i'll fire that harpoon really well (when the time comes -- we'll be in pursuit for a while) and that the lines hold. every part of this is pretty unsure and rather difficult. i started out as a fisherman and this is a whole different thing compared to trouts, yknow.

in our first chase she snapped the lines just by pulling. in our last she tore the whole harpoon arbalest thingy off the ship. took us ages to rebuild something. this time we've affixed it to pretty much the whole length of the boat. if she tears it off, i think i'll have to swim home.

Great news everyone. There was a kitten wandering in the drive thru at work and my inner warrior cats kid tried to be a hero and capture him.

I have now suffered multiple puncture wounds and have to go to the emergency room.
