how would you prefer creator submissions on existing blinkies be formatted? i’ve submitted a few with creator urls and links to where they could be found but i’m worried i’m doing it wrong ^^;

also— a lot of the blinkies found from adrian’s blinkie collection (and maybe others, but that’s where i’ve noticed it the most) have quality issues akin to jpeg artifacting which is REALLY noticeable on such a small scale. will you be reuploading any blinkies with this issue if their source and/or a higher quality version is found? i can provide an example of this if you’re unsure of what i mean

For existing blinkies the best way is probably to submit to creator separately and then in blinkies where their works have already been uploaded, add their name to the creator section as the same name you submitted them with. It's not a hard set thing though!

And yeah, I've slowly been replacing Adrian's collection with higher quality uploads as I find sources! there's a ton of blinkies so its not too noticeable but we always aim for the highest quality version blinkie we can find -🦎

When providing the link(s) to blinkies, you can either give a link to a single collection where they're hosted, or multiple links for each blinkie - either works! The only caveat is we are not accepting uncredited secondhand collections. -🦎

We have now reached 20,000 blinkies!!! I honestly didn't expect we'd get this many so quickly, and it still feels like I've just barely started to scrape the surface of the GifCities iceberg of creators, so who knows how many more we'll find? Maybe now I'll finally focus on transcribing them, LOL -🦎

GifCities just had a big update a few days ago to include more powerful searching mechanisms and a better UI, and on their blog post they linked the search query for 150x20 blinkies. There's nearly 10,000 standard blinkies here!

Naturally this has, erm, drawn me into another rabbit hole, and I think it will for a long time.

That being said, a lot of the blinkies in this system are from secondhand collections and only sometimes are they credited, so a lot of them are dead ends. I've still been finding a ton of new creators in spite of it! -🦎

the limitations I noticed in many blinkie and graphic collections in general is 1) the lack of sources and 2) the lack of discoverability. It was difficult to tell who made what, and it was difficult to find any one specific thing especially in large collections, even when split into subject or color categories. And, without knowing who made the graphics, there's no way to tell whether they're following that person's terms of use.

They're great resources nonetheless! But the limitations made me want something like geoblinkies at a larger scale for a while... so we made it ourselves!

Hii I love this project. I'm wondering if there's a way that I could submit my blinkies via an individual link for each one, instead of a link to a "collection", since I upload them onto my own image repository site using github.

I have 12 currently so I'd like to think that's not a lot? :-p

I've been getting a few requests now about individual blinkie submissions, so I'll modify the question's text in a bit to reflect this: the "collection" input doesn't have to be just one link, you can paste all the links separated by spaces in there and that way I can import them all at once.

This is more than likely a postimg issue (the host for the images currently), it has short periods of downtime every now and then and theres unfortunately not anything I can do but it clears up on its own. Eventually I plan to move it all to the domain so that it doesn't break like this

Edit: I just checked it, and the images load normally. I'm not sure when this ask was sent, but I hope the downtime wasn't too long!

Just finished going through the rabbit hole. We now have 3k more blinkies than before we found this website. Holy shit! I wasn't sure if 20k would be possible to reach, but it's looking highly likely now.

I keep telling myself I'll focus on adding transcriptions again and then end up in even deeper blinkie rabbit holes. My lovely partner found an amazing website that documents old websites of all sorts and I've spent hours today just going through the blinkies ones that we haven't archived yet. We're at 18k blinkies now thanks to it O_O what a gold mine!

also, id like to give a shoutout to the stamp creator Amii who is credited for over 1000 phenomenal stamps but has no outlink to a website or anything. had a fantastic night scrolling thru their work with friends last night and we want to give them a firm handshake for being a real one but we dont know where to find them o7

Thank you for creating Blinkie Wiki ! I love dwelling on this site already.

I've noticed you recently added a bunch of graphics written in French on the wiki, and this made me wonder how we should tag graphics that aren't written in English.

I've tagged them as "French", but should this tag be only for graphics about French culture ?

I personally feel like having a way to filter graphics by language would be practical, but I don't know how hard to implement that'd be, so no pressure if you don't have anything planned in this department.

Ever since me and my partner discovered a french scene of old blinkies a few days ago, I have been considering doing a separate filter for languages. For now, feel free to continue tagging them by country/language names so that they're discoverable! It wouldn't be too complicated to implement a feature like that.
