Finding your passion!
Have you ever sat down by yourself and thought who am I really? After my 28th birthday passed, I was sitting in my truck waiting in the parking lot before work started. I began to really reflect on my life and began to wonder, have I achieved everything I ever dreamed of. As I started to really think hard and write a check list of everything I wanted to achieve I noticed that only two things were only checked off. Which was marry the women of my dreams and start a family. But there was so much more I wanted to accomplish, I began to feel like a failure because I have not achieved my big goals which I still have not done that yet.
One of the major goals I am pushing to complete is, becoming a motivational speaker and providing my family with a more stable living financially. While working two jobs has been a pain, I never complain about it because I believe achieving these goals take time and hard work. I could be that guy that tries all the get rich quick schemes and rob people of there money by selling them products that don’t even work. But that is not that person I have set out to be, I believe in motivating others to pursue their dreams. I have built so many friendships with so many people because of how positive I always am. My father used to tell me to never allow someone who is sad walk away try your best to brighten their day, and that is the person I strive to be.
Now I was never into writing until I took a creative writing course in college that changed my mind completely in 11 weeks. I was a jock in high school and basketball was all I knew, and I am not saying I was great, but I was good enough to make it on ESPN my sophomore year. I was deemed to go far but that all changed when I tore my ACL twice back to back my junior and senior year. You can imagine how devastating this was because you start to see a dream slip away. The two most crucial years of my life to really get noticed by big name colleges gone instantly. I was broken, upset and lost and did not know were to go from this setback. I tried to make a comeback, but I was never the same I was defeated mentally and did not know how to cope with it.
I decided to disappear for while to figure out what I was going to do with my life now. I was on YouTube just watching random videos until I came across a video of a guy by the name of Eric Thomas. He was speaking to a group of students in a class room about success. His speech was so motivating that I felt like I was there listening. One the best quotes I liked from him was “if you want to succeed as bad as you want to breath, then you will be successful”. Time after time I played that speech to the point of me being able to recite the it. I sat in my chair and thought to myself this is what I want to do is motivate not only a small group of people, but I want to motivate the whole world.
I figured if I could not achieve my dreams of being a basketball player, I could achieve another dream which is motivating others old or young to achieve theirs. I believe we all have a purpose on this earth even though I did not make it in basketball due to the knee injuries, I still have a voice that can inspire at least one person in this world. You see life can have so many setbacks and give you that mindset that you will never achieve any of your goals. But you must dig deep and really find your passion, it can’t always be about being rich or wealthy.
What really makes me happy is seeing others happy, there is too much sadness in the world. Though I know you are not in the place you want or wanted to be in, but one thing you should be happy about is the fact that you can change your life no matter the age you are. I see many people who say well I can’t do the job I really want because I do not have a degree. My thought on this is, that is the company’s loss and instead of complaining about it go out and create your own way. If a company will not take a chance with you then create your own and give someone who was in the same place you were in a chance to make something of their selves.
This is the art of giving back and most modern-day companies don’t do that because all they care about is numbers which isn’t passion it is greed. You can do better, people want to work for companies that encourage them to do better not ones that treat you like a number and make you feel like you’re less of a person. So, I will leave you with this piece of advice, find something you are passionate about and work hard to build it into something you can share with the world. I hope I at least motivated one person in this world and to motivate more.
