3 Ways to Increase Email Open Rates
Email opening rates have remained stubbornly low for several years now. Various studies over the past three or four years have shown that only around 21% of all email marketing messages get opened. That means that eight out of ten of your customers are ignoring you. That’s not good.
The top sector — religion — is being ignored by over half its email congregation even with a whopping open rate of 48%. It seems that religious emails cannot preach to the converted as much as they would like.
So why is it that so many email marketing messages are ignored — and what can you do about it? Here are three things which will increase your open rate.
1. Have something interesting, useful and relevant to say
Email marketing messages that are just that — marketing — are frankly a waste of your time and money. Your emails are interrupting the day of your customers and potential clients. Put yourself in their shoes.
Imagine you are sitting in a restaurant, having a nice time with friends, when suddenly someone rushes up to your table brandishing some product and says “would you like to buy this?”
You would no-doubt politely — perhaps not so politely — ignore them or tell them to go away. Yet, when you are sitting working or doing interesting stuff online some email marketing oik does exactly the same, interrupting you saying “hey, how about buying this?”
However, go back to that imaginary restaurant. What if your conversation is interrupted by the person on the table next to you with some really interesting and useful information?
The chances are you are more likely to listen. The same is true with emails — if they are interesting and give useful information we can use then we are more ready to accept that interruption.
The reason so few marketing emails get opened is because they are marketing emails.
Make them information emails and you increase your chances of being opened greatly. Think “how can I help my customers” and not “what can I sell to my customers”.
2. Use your recipient’s name and other details
If someone talks to you and never once mentions you by name you distance yourself from them psychologically.
Your name is one of the most important aspects of your self-identity and when other people use it you attach to them more easily.
Similarly, when they ask you “how are your children” or “is your decorating finished” they are demonstrating they are interested in you.
Emails get few open rates because they largely show interest in the company sending out the message, rather than the recipient. Email marketing software, of course, allows you to use the person’s first name — but personalisation is more than that.
You could collect other personal details such as location, job title, interests and so on which you use in your emails.
The more you personalise the better — indeed research shows that if you use the person’s name in the subject line of the email you dramatically increase the open rate.
Showing people you like them as an individual will gain higher open rates.
3. Make your subject lines like newspaper headlines
Newspaper headline writers have spent years discovering how to craft the perfect group of words to make people want to read something.
Studies show that the headlines which get the most readers are those which are active, not passive.
They also contain emotion and are not just flat statements. Furthermore they include human interest. If you use the recipient’s name in your subject line, there’s your human interest.
So that only leaves you with two other considerations — active emotion. Instead of saying things like “Update on employment prospects” say “George, here’s how to get a pay rise” — it is on the same topic, but it has emotion and suggests action.
Also, notice the word count has increased. Headlines in newspapers and email subject lines that contain around 6–11 words tend to get the most readers. Avoid short subject lines in emails — aim for 10 words, that will get you more opens too.
So, there you have it, three key ways to get your emails opened. You might have noticed a theme — focus on your customer, put yourself in their shoes and you will increase your chances of your emails being opened.

Affiliate Marketing Guide - How to Increase Your Revenue Through Affiliate Programs
Affiliate marketing is an approach to online business, which has grown in popularity over the last few years. The Internet has changed the way people buy and sell products, and the affiliate program is one of the most lucrative ways of making money online.
In this brief article, I will discuss affiliate marketing, its importance to a website and the best strategy to use to create one. After reading this article, you should be better prepared to start looking to earn some money with affiliate marketing.
So, what is affiliate marketing? Basically, affiliate marketing is a kind of performance based compensation plan in which one or more merchants reward one or more affiliates per visitor or client brought about by the affiliate’s marketing efforts.
In exchange for this recognition, the affiliate is rewarded financially for bringing the customer or visitor to the merchant’s site.
There are various ways to monetize an affiliate marketing channel. For example, one affiliate might get paid for every sale that results from a link that is clicked from their page.
In this case, they might receive a commission for every sale, or they might be compensated only when a customer actually buys something from their page.
Although building websites which are genuinely interesting and useful is a great way to earn money passively through search engines recognising how much people are staying on and consuming a website’s content. That’s because the search engines will send free visitors,. But creating such websites is both time consuming, and recognition can be slow
to appear.
Hence, one of the more popular ways of monetizing affiliate marketing channels on the web is to use pay per click advertising (PPC). The merchant will pay an affiliate only if and when they actually deliver a visitor to their site.
Therefore, it is crucial for the affiliate to be visible and active on the web. But, having a recognised high authority website is not the only way to do this.
Pay per click (PPC) advertising brings results within hours of the affiliate being approved as a PPC advertiser, and some initial ads have been created and activated for display.
Pay per click advertising works best when you have a targeted audience, since this is the audience likely to be interested in the products or services you are advertising.
There are many ways to find the right “targets”, and the affiliate marketing novice only need follow one or more of the many good online courses to discover how to gain that audience.
However, even when you do have a large audience, there is still the chance that your ad will not be clicked on. Even the most seasoned affiliate marketer will tell you how they made what they thought was a winning offer or ad, only for it to be ignored.
As such, it is necessary to constantly test your pay per click strategies in order to find out which ads bring in the most revenue. Those that are successful, gain their success through their persistence.
They do not become discouraged when an ad campaign flops. They say that, on the contrary, they learn by such experiences of what isn’t working. It is all useful knowledge for them.
Another way of increasing your affiliate marketing revenue is through the use of social media channels. A great way of monetizing your channel is to make a connection with a highly targeted audience.
By doing this, your audience is much more likely to purchase the products or services that you are promoting.
This increases the chances of revenue growth and also ensures that your customers remain loyal to your brand even after they have become accustomed to using your products and services.
The best way to increase revenue through affiliate marketing programs is to use multiple streams of income in order to gain the most from your marketing campaigns.
The easiest way of achieving this is through getting a good conversion rate on your website or PPC ads in one campaign. Moving on and using that experience to promote another product. High conversion rates ensure that your customers remain loyal to your brand, and are more likely to buy the products and services you are offering in the future.
To help increase the odds of your website conversion rates being high, it is advisable to implement a number of tactics into your marketing strategy. These include:
• ensuring that your website content is always fresh and up-to-date;
• using creative banner graphics and adverts;
• offering incentives to visitors who make purchases; and
• making use of the right affiliate marketing network.
All of these tactics can work in synergy to ensure that you increase your revenue through affiliate marketing programs. Another aspect to consider for increasing affiliate marketing revenue is to focus on gaining a strong niche following.
When promoting products and services related to your niche, it is important to target potential buyers through a tightly controlled marketing campaign.
Attract people of the same mindset as yourself by communicating your own personality and original outlook on life. Be honest and truthful and people will come to respect and trust you.
By targeting a tightly controlled audience of your”fans”, you will be able to greatly increase the number of people who will be interested in purchasing the product or service that you are offering.
For instance, if you are promoting a product for dog lovers, it is advisable to focus on providing quality content that caters specifically to the interests this target audience. This can make the entire process a lot easier, as it will increase the chances of gaining a loyal audience.
Additionally, by focusing on a niche audience, you are far more likely to build a long-term relationship with your audience, which can lead to a significant increase in sales over time.

Affiliate Marketing - What You Should Know
Affiliate marketing is gaining popularity day by day because of the increasing consciousness amongst the masses about it. Merchants as well as the affiliates have realized that affiliate marketing proves beneficial for both of them.
Affiliate marketing gives the merchant the opportunity to advertise their products at a low cost while the affiliates find affiliate marketing as an easy way to earn money online and that too by doing something that they could enjoy
The perception of people about affiliate marketing has undergone a sea change with the rising popularity of affiliate marketing. Today, no one considers affiliate marketing as an alternative method of advertisement of products by a merchant or as a source of additional income for an affiliate.
As of now, affiliate marketing has become the main source of profits and revenues for many the merchants and affiliates. Now, there can be a number of questions that could be asked about affiliate marketing.
For example, what type of affiliate program should one opt for or does all affiliate marketing programs accrue the same benefit or are all the affiliate marketing programs the same deep down or are there affiliate marketing programs that prove to be more beneficial than the others.
It is true that there are different types of affiliate marketing but these types surely depend on the way one classifies them. However, fundamentally affiliate marketing programs can be classified into two heads-pay per click (PPC) and pay per performance (PPP).
PAY PER CLICK (PPC) AND PAY PER PERFORMANCE (PPP)
PPC is the most popular as well as the easiest way of earning money for affiliates having smaller websites.
An affiliate gets paid when a visitor is referred to his site i.e. when a user clicks through the merchant’s banner or text ads. This payment to the affiliate does not depend on whether the visitor makes any actual purchase on the merchant’s site.
Contrary to that, under PPP affiliate marketing the affiliate gets paid only if the referred visitor actually makes any purchase or if the referred visitor turns into a lead.
Due to this difference, the returns on PPC for an affiliate would be comparatively less than PPP. PPP affiliate marketing is considered a better bet for both the merchant as well as for the affiliates.
Similarly Pay Per Performance (PPP) affiliate marketing has yet been classified into two categories: — pay per sales (PPS) and pay per lead (PPL).
As the name suggests under the PPS system, the affiliate only gets paid if actual sales is made while under PPL affiliate system, the affiliate gets paid if the visitor fills up an application form or any such similar form related to business of the company.
This kind of system is used by companies which depend on leads for their growth like finance and insurance companies.
SINGLE TIER, TWO TIERS AND MULTI TIER AFFILIATE MARKETING
These are different types of affiliate marketing programs depending on the depth of the affiliate network.
If the affiliates only get paid on the basis of direct sales or traffic that he has referred to the merchant’s site (for example-PPS, PPL and
PPC), this kind of program comes under single tier affiliate marketing. Similarly, if he gets paid for the direct traffic that he has referred and also for every traffic or sales that has been made by affiliates recommended by him, he comes under the two tier affiliate marketing.
In multi tier affiliate program, the affiliate gets paid like two tiers but besides that he also gets paid for other affiliates in different tiers in the affiliate network.
RESIDUAL INCOME AFFILIATE MARKETING
The affiliate gets paid not once but every time the referred customer makes a purchase on the merchant’s site. The payment may be made as a fixed amount or as a percentage of the sale amount.
Thus, we find that there are a number of affiliate marketing programs and the choice that you make must depend on your own convenience and requirement.

20 Subject Line Tips That Increase Opens by 61.8%
Obviously if the subject line of your email doesn’t get the open, it’s all over. No clicks. No sales. No anything. But with the right one, you can get your readers to open and devour your emails.
Here then are 20 down and dirty tips for hot subject lines that get results.
1. Short is better
40% of emails are opened on mobile, and they’ll get cut off if they’re too long. Aim for 50 characters or less.
Another reason shorter is better — it’s more eye-catching. Compare these two subject lines and ask yourself which would catch your eye:
a) “Warning!”
b) “Warning, that early morning habit of yours might be causing a serious problem”
For the best of both worlds, consider this: with most email programs, you can place “Warning!” in the subject line, and use “That early morning habit of yours might be causing a serious problem” as the first line of the email, which will show up as preview text. As always, test.
2. Still don’t believe that shorter is better?
According to Contact Monkey, subject lines with 3 or more words are opened 15% less than those with 1–2 words.
3. Don’t get cute
Some emailers like to begin their subjects with “fw:” because they believe it increases open rates. But according to Convince and Convert, it actually reduces opens by 17%. However, Contact Monkey also reports that the top five subject lines in their recent study all included “Re:” This just goes to show you the importance of testing.
4. Create urgency
Subjects that evoke a sense of urgency and exclusivity receive a 22% higher open rate, according to Email Institute. Use deadlines such as “today only” and “12 hour giveaway” to encourage readers to act now.
5. Do NOT use the word “newsletter”
A study from Adestra found that email subjects containing the word “newsletter” received an 18.7% decrease in open rates. Why? Maybe because recipients think it will take too long to read, or they can always read it later; which of course they seldom do.
6. Use the person’s name in the subject line
Yes, it’s an old school trick. And yes, for a while it seemed like it wasn’t working as well as it did.
But these days, people get so many emails that once again having this little bit of personalization can make a difference. In fact Adestra found that personalized subjects were 22.2% more likely to be opened. Just don’t do it every time or it will lose its effectiveness.
7. Words to avoid
“Meeting” reduced opens by 7% according to Sidekick.
“Quick” reduced opens by 17%.
“You” reduced opens by 5%.
8. Words to use
“Tomorrow increased opens by 10% according to Sidekick.
“Free” increased opens by 10%.
9. Test to find the right sender name
If the recipient doesn’t recognize the sender name or doesn’t have a positive association to it, the email likely won’t get opened.
If your business name implies a benefit “Your Best Body” then try sending from that name, as well as “Joe Smith, Your Best Body” and your full name “Joe Smith.” See which one gets the most opens and then stick with that.
10. Never use “[email protected]” as your sender name
It creates a terrible impression, looks anything but personable, and prevents recipients from adding it to their address book.
11. Use list segmentation
You don’t want to send news of your children’s clothing sale to a guy who only purchased men’s work shirts. Personalize each person’s experience according to the action they’ve taken — which list they’ve joined and which product they’ve purchased.
12. Who says you need a subject line?
According to Sidekick, emails with no subject were opened 8% more than those with a subject. But use this trick sparingly, if at all. And remember, preview text will be visible, so make it good.
13. Make readers feel like they’re on the inside
The psychology of exclusivity is a prime motivator. Give your subscribers a sense of belonging to your group, your tribe or your inside circle.
In other words, make them feel special with subjects like this:
· “An exclusive offer just for you”
· “My personal gift to you”
· “For members only, you’re invited!”
· “Private: For beloved customers ONLY.”
14. 3 words to use
Using the words “Sale,” “Video” or “New” in subjects boost open rates.
15. Don’t bait and switch
Any promise made in the subject needs to be fulfilled in the email. For example, don’t say “27 Free eBooks”, and then try to sell them 27 eBooks which will ‘seem like they’re free because they’ll make you so much money.’ I’ve actually received this email — and unsubscribed because of it.
16. Tell them what’s inside — and make it good
Did they just join your list to get a free book? Then your subject might be, “Your new eBook inside!” Are you announcing a new service that is perfect for them? “Joan, this service is tailor-made for you.”
17. Use numbers
“Increase your traffic 200%” is better than “How to increase your traffic.”
18. Use action verbs
Think of a subject line as a call to action — you want the language to inspire people to click on the email. By starting with an action verb, you’ve got a much greater chance of motivating them to click.
For example, which of these stimulate you to want to know more: “Notice: The New Nissans are here” or “Drive a Brand New Nissan Today”?
19. The words “Daily’ and “Weekly” boost open rates
But the word “Monthly” hurts them, according to Adestra.
20. Oh yes…
The word that increased opens by 61.8% according to Adestra? Believe it or not, it’s the word “alert.” Again, don’t over use it, but instead reserve it for those times when it really, really counts.
You motivated your readers to open your email with a great subject line, but now what? It’s all about your first sentence.
And your second, and your third. You’ve heard how the purpose of the first sentence in a sales letter is to get them to read the second, and the second is to get them to read the third. Treat your emails the same way, like every sentence counts.

One of the Best Ways to Generate Leads for Affiliate Marketing Is Solo Ads
Many of you might know about solo ads and for some it might be a new term. Many affiliate marketers use this source of traffic and lead generation activity. It is a well rewarding business model.
What is Solo Ad and how it works?
Solo ads, work best with Email Advertisement, in which you need to prepare an email template or campaign and send it across to the list owner and the list owner than send that email to subscribers and you pay some amount for that service.
You can add your product, service or affiliate link in your email and list owner, send traffic to that email and you get very high targeted traffic on that email and Link.
Let’s say you have a product or you are promoting someone else product as an affiliate and your targeted niche is health & fitness than you contact the person who have a massive email subscriber list of health & fitness niche.
You discuss with him/her and come with a fixed rate per click or visitor than he/she will send your email to all the subscribers from that specific niche who is actually interested in your product. This is how it works. It’s very much in demand and very profitable. Let’s see more in detailed.
1. Find the Affiliate Product and Niche.
If you are interested in affiliate marketing and do not want to create your own product than promote someone else product in the beginning. You need to find the best product which is high in demand and also make sure it is competitive.
What you need to do initially go for low cost product so that you get more idea and you might get the first sale quick to build-up your confidence. High end product might take long time and as a beginner it will not be easy to get the first sale that quick.
2. Look for Seller
Once you choose the product then you need to choose the Solo ads Seller. You need to be careful here. It is a very tricky part, but you will learn step by step.
There are many ways to find the good sellers in the market just go to Google and search for best ad sellers for affiliate marketing promotion and you will have lists of many reputed ones. What you need to do is use your product nature + Solo ad seller in Google.
Here are some examples;
• Fitness Program Solo Ads Sellers
• Fat Lose Solo Ads Sellers
• Email Marketing Solo Ads Sellers
• Make money online Solo Ads Sellers
This way you can have many good numbers of seller list and then you contact them and ask for numbers of Subscriber, Reviews, testimonials, Price etc. There is one more way to find them is Advertising agencies. There are many good ones out there.
3. How to target the affiliate link?
Once you choose the best seller of your interest now it’s time to prepare the campaign to share with the seller. The main question here is should we target direct link to affiliate product or not?
•
• If you send the traffic directly to affiliate link, then you cannot make your own subscriber list. You can do this, but you will not have your own list ever.

The 10 Most Common Affiliate Marketing Management Questions And Answers
1. Is affiliate marketing right for my business?
Affiliate marketing is one of the most powerful and effective means of gaining new customers, regardless of your product or service. Affiliate marketing exposes your business to new customers and can get you out of your marketing rut.
Additionally, when you initiate an affiliate marketing campaign, you're in control. You determine the commission rate you pay and pay only when your affiliates make a sale. It's a no loss operation for you because you only pay when a sale is made.
2. What are the startup costs?
When you start an affiliate program you have the choice of handling the operations yourself or having it managed by an affiliate network. The costs for either choice are reasonable and generally start around a few hundred dollars.
Additionally, as a business owner don't forget that many of your costs may be tax deductible. To start an affiliate marketing program in house, costs will include:
Affiliate management software. Affiliate marketing support including a website that answers affiliate questions and a means for them to contact you if any issues arise. Affiliate marketing materials including banner ads, copy, coupons, and promotional content.
An affiliate marketing contract agreement,Tracking software to track cookies, click throughs, payments, etc.If you choose to hire an affiliate network to handle your program they generally charge a flat fee or a percentage of what you pay out each month.
3. How much time will it take out of my workday/workweek?
Most experts agree that it will take you about an hour and a half each day to manage your affiliate program. They also recommend you to budget more time in the first few months of your program, approximately two to three hours a day.
Even the most efficient affiliate managers spend about 45 minutes a day managing their affiliate program.
Professional affiliate managers generally spend an average of 40-80 hours a month dedicated to managing, tracking and promoting your affiliate program.
4. Should I use an affiliate network?
Do you have an extra 3 hours a day for the next two or three months? Do you have an hour a day to devote to managing your program after the initial three month program is complete?
An affiliate network, while it may be a bit more expensive on the outset, can help you focus your time on other profit generating tasks.
Additionally, an affiliate network can help expose your affiliate program to a wide variety of experience affiliates, which means more money in your bottom line and more exposure overall.
That being said, there are a tremendous number of effective in-house solutions including some you're likely already familiar with like http://1shoppingcart.com and Affiliatepro Software and Marketing Solutions.

5. How should I pay affiliates? What type of commission works best?
This is a very important decision because it not only affects your profits, the right commission rate will help you recruit top-notch affiliates.
The general rule of thumb is to set your default commission rate at a rate you can afford to pay while leaving room for time limited commission increase offers, promotions, and private offers.
For example, if you can afford to pay 50% of your gross profit margin, pay 25% instead and tier it so that after a sales goal is reached they earn 30% or you can bump it up to 50% during the holidays or during typically low sales times.
6. How do I recruit affiliates?
Your customers may be your best affiliates. After all, they already appreciate and enjoy your products or services. A simple link on your website is a good place to start. Here are a few ways to find quality affiliates:
Online forums. These are excellent places to meet and greet and connect with like minded individuals. They're also a good resource for affiliates who are interested in, motivated, and qualified to sell your products and services.
Using a forum, you can announce your affiliate program. Be careful to not 'sell' on the forum as most forums look down on this and may kick you off. Additionally, you can include a link to your affiliate site in your signature.
Find websites that link to your competitors and approach them about being an affiliate for you. Likewise, you can find affiliates using your favorite search engine and contact them about joining your program.
One last way is to join an affiliate network or become listed on an affiliate directory.
This will ensure that affiliate marketers who are searching for new products and services to promote.
However, keep in mind that many beginner marketers also seek products and services to promote via affiliate directories and they may lose interest and motivation before they ever make a sale.
This isn't a strong deterrent because they don't get paid unless they make a sale, however it should be noted.
7. What is the best way to communicate with my affiliates?
Email is the general tool of choice, which makes an auto responder a fantastic tool for basic emails like the welcome email, introducing promotions, coupons, sending links and banner ads, and answering Frequently Asked Questions.
It is also generally advisable to have an email address, fax number, and telephone number available for when affiliates have questions that are not answered by your frequently asked questions web page or when they simply want to speak with you.
8. How do I motivate affiliates?
Money motivates no doubt about it. That being said, affiliates are also motivated by feeling that they're important to you. This means when they ask for your time, you give it.
Additionally, promotions, bonuses, prizes, contests, and commission increases are all tools to motivate and inspire affiliates. Constant communication, like sending a weekly or monthly Ezine, will also help remind your affiliates that you're out there and invested in their success.
9. Do I need to hire an affiliate manager?
The answer to this question really depends on your needs. How large is your company? Do you have the time to manage your program? Do you have the skills to manage your program? An affiliate manager is the person that:
Recruits affiliates
Communicates with affiliates
Develops, tracks, and reports on promotions
Develops programs to enhance affiliate program
Motivates affiliates
Tracks sales and pays affiliates
Monitors your competition
These are all extremely important functions and if you have the time to handle them yourself, excellent! If you do not, then consider hiring an affiliate manager.
10. How do I find/hire an affiliate manager?

Organizational skills
Communication skills
Attention to detail
Knowledge of online business, internet marketing, and basic ecommerce operations
Basic html and graphic experience are a plus because they're going to be representing you, you'll want to make sure they're personable.

Make an Incredible Income With Affiliate Marketing!
The Internet has been making more people rich in the last 20 years or so than any other business platform on the planet. It's truly extraordinary how easy it is to make money online using affiliate marketing.
What is affiliate marketing you ask? The short answer is it is using you (called an affiliate) as the marketing vehicle for the millions of products out there that need buyers.
As an affiliate marketer you are essentially a salesman selling great products that you believe in or have an interest in (you can choose from literally millions of affiliate products), but there are no conventional "sales" jobs involved in selling them.
Select A Product
The first step is to select a product to promote from literally millions of products and services that exist on the Internet. There are usually 2 types of affiliate programs with similar yet different concepts. Both concepts are designed to make affiliate sales but how you get there is a little different for each.
Affiliate Program Concepts
Which one is best? They both have their place in the online marketing arena. Each affiliate needs to make that decision for themselves as to which concept serves their needs the best ...
The one common thread both concepts have is you will need to join whichever program you choose by providing identifying information as to who you are (name, address, email, social security number, etc.) and how you want to be paid (mailed check, direct deposit, PayPal, some programs may offer others too).
Your affiliate link is how you get paid (make a commission) for referring potential buyers to the product website. By using your affiliate link for referrals, the product website then knows which affiliate has sent the buyer to the website. If the potential buyer does in fact purchase a product from that referral, the sale is tracked and credited to the referring affiliate.
The first concept is you have a single product or service where that one item is offered by itself. Usually the author or a reseller (someone who has the rights granted by the product owner to sell the product themselves) offers an affiliate program for the product.
To become an affiliate you will need to join and be assigned a unique affiliate link and password to your account. The link will both identify you as an affiliate for that product and also identify which affiliate you are so they know who to pay for a sale.
You will need to keep track of what affiliate link goes with each product you sign up for as each product will have a different affiliate link.
The second concept is having one affiliate program wrapped around numerous individual products and/or services. This type of affiliate program has numerous advantages over the single product program:
1. Only one account for all commissions to accumulate (this is a huge advantage as you will see a little later)
2. One account, one password to keep track of for numerous products and services
3. Numerous products and services to promote with one account
4. New products are added regularly into the one account
5. High volume activity and usually a support staff exists which provides quicker support responses
6. No need to worry about getting paid. These sites exist by keeping their affiliates happy.
This may or may not be the case for an individual running an affiliate program
"Down Side" to Affiliate Programs
There are couple of "down side" points to make about affiliate marketing. Payments for credited referral sales (earned commissions) are usually not paid right away. There are good reasons for this practice by those running affiliate programs:
1. When a sale is made at a website, the buyer is usually given a money-back guarantee period of time, usually 30 days, to use and evaluate the product to make sure it meets the users needs.
If the buyer requests a refund of the purchase, then the affiliate also loses their commission for the sale. Payments to the affiliate are usually delayed until after the refund period has expired so the product owner is not "left holding the bag" for already paying a commission on a sale that has now been refunded.
2. Commissions are usually paid on a regular payment cycle, normally monthly. What you earn in one payment cycle is usually not paid until the next payment cycle. This way all commission payments can be handled at one time and is not a full time job paying daily or even weekly.
The main "down side" to affiliate marketing is that most, if not all, affiliate programs set a minimum dollar amount you must reach in commissions before they will cut you a payment. This usually ranges from $20 - $50 or more in some cases. Breaking this down in simple, easy to understand terms is best served by an example.
Say for example you sign up for an affiliate program that has a $30 minimum payout level and the product sells for $49 with a 50% commission. You do all of your work and generate a sale from your affiliate link.
OK, you have made a $24.50 commission (it will actually be a little less as you are paid on the net sale, after all processing expenses are paid) ... You get that paid to you on the next payment cycle, right? Not exactly ...
You see, your commission does not reach the $30 minimum payout the program sets before they will incur the expense of cutting you a payment.
So what now? Well, you have to wait until you make another sale to get you over the minimum before you get your commission on the first sale. This could actually carry over for months before you actually get paid.
In some case, you may never reach the minimum if you do not make more than one sale. In that case, your commission remains in "limbo" forever.
And to make matters worse, this minimum payout level applies to each individual product for which you are an affiliate. Different products are owned by different people and the earned commissions for all products do NOT accumulate to get you over any minimum payout level.
Any minimum payout level problem is solved when using affiliate sites instead of individual affiliate programs (this is the huge advantage referenced earlier). Each sale you make under the umbrella of the affiliate site is accumulated into one qualifying pool so you only have to make cumulative commissions to meet the minimum payout level to get paid.
To qualify for your commissions, you could make sales of 2 different products and the earned commissions from both are combined for you to reach the minimum payout level.
Yes, this is huge ... Instead of having 10 different sales individually setting in 10 different affiliate programs, none of which meet the minimum for you to get paid, now you have those 10 sales commissions added together to get you over the minimum payout level and now you get paid for all 10.
I hope you see the huge advantage the umbrella type of affiliate programs offer.
How To Get Your Affiliate Link Online
The beauty of affiliate marketing is that unlike a salesman in the real world, you are not trying to convince anyone of anything.
You just register a domain (which is recommended but not required) and put up a product review minisite, a one page website that describes and promotes all the features and benefits of the product being promoted.
Although a product review site is recommended for the best results, it does require that you do have some web space on the Internet. Hosting accounts are available for just a few dollars a month so this should be within anyone's reach that has a true desire to be an affiliate.
Many review sites can be placed on one hosting account. In fact you could well have thousands of review sites on one hosting account.
If you do not want to create product review sites, there are alternatives. Some affiliate sites offer you pre-made products and websites and are available for free for your use if you join their affiliate program.
Promoting Your Product
The seller in essence does all the conversion work; you just have to send targeted traffic to the sales page.
Here are a few ways to promote your affiliate link:
1. Article Marketing: Write an article describing the features and benefits of the product
2. eMail Marketing: Use your article as an advertisement in ezines or mailing lists
3. Classified Ads: These are available all over the Internet for free
4. Pay Per Click Marketing: Choose the best place for your ads
5. Many of the larger affiliate sites offer training and promotional materials for your use for free
You are only limited by your imagination on how to market your affiliate link. Be creative. Step "outside the box" and create a new way that works for you. You can also research Online Marketing by searching the Internet.
Online Marketing is a huge field and there are tons of informational products already written on the subject. Take advantage of that and you are on your way to financial freedom.
Making Money
Affiliate marketing is all about making money for both parties and often the commissions on sales (buyers you send to the site through your affiliate link) are 50% or higher! Some of the better affiliate programs pay as high as an 80% commission on every sale you make.
Although the product owner handles the product delivery, customer service and virtually everything else beyond your referring targeted potential buyers to them, including overhead, you get paid the same amount if not more as they do on the sale!
Your only overhead is your domain (usually under $10 a year) and web space (a few dollars per month) if you decide to do review sites.
You can use the many free advertising venues such as online classified ads, article submission sites and more to refer traffic to your affiliate link site,
However you would be missing out on building a much higher income potential because you would not be able to push these articles up in the search engine rankings as easily as if you had a domain. Getting traffic from search engines is the gold mine of affiliate marketing!
Thank you for your time and interest in learning more about affiliate marketing. Choose your affiliate programs and products carefully and wisely.
We hope we have provided some insight into what to expect if you decide to enter the affiliate marketing arena. We wish you the best in planning your strategies and implementing your plan. Article Source:

What Most People Will Never Tell You About Affiliate Marketing
If you have ever considered trying to earn money online you probably didn't have to look far to see all kinds of products and websites about Affiliate Marketing. Affiliate Marketing is one of the most common ways for the average person to earn and income on the internet.
As you may already know an affiliate is simply an internet based salesperson for someone else's products. Most of the e-books and internet marketing courses you have seen online were in fact probably advertised by an affiliate marketer.
So whether you realized it or not you have already been involved with affiliate marketing, except you were the prospect or customer rather than the marketer.
What follows is an overview and some information most gurus won't tell you. Incidentally, the reason why gurus who write these materials so highly recommend affiliate marketing is because they are the ones who produce (and profit from) the products that many affiliates sell.
By encouraging their readers to become affiliate marketers (especially for their products) they build a virtual army of salespeople promoting and selling their e-books, online videos, and courses for them.
Guru internet marketers create and sell products about internet marketing to others wishing to make money online. Indeed, courses and e-books about internet marketing are the top digital info products purchased online. So, lets take a look at the affiliate business.
Most affiliate programs will have a single commission compensation plan but some will utilize a multi-tiered system. Here's the difference: A single commission plan will pay each affiliate a set percentage for each sale they make through their affiliate link.
A multiple tiered program will pay the affiliate a commission on their own sales but also will pay a percentage on the sales of affiliates referred by the primary affiliate. For instance Mary promotes 'Jumpin' Juice' for ABC Company.
For every person that buys a bottle of the juice through her website the company pays her a commission. Mary also advertises for others to sell 'Jumpin' Juice'. Joe sees Mary's affiliate link and want to be an affiliate himself.
When Joe chooses to become an affiliate like Mary and signs up through Mary's website Mary will get paid a percentage of all the sales Joe makes. If another tier is available Mary will also earn a small percentage on the sales of the people Joe signs up as affiliates. Now this may sound a little like network marketing but let me explain the difference.
Tiered affiliate programs generally will only offer one or two tiers. There will be a high percentage paid on the affiliates personal sales and then a small percentage paid on the 1st tier. One company I'm associated with for example pays me 50% on my personal sales and then 10% on the sales of the people I recruit as fellow affiliates.
So you can see in multi-tiered affiliate programs there is not a big motivation to do a lot of recruiting. It is a nice feature though if so if you do happen to tell someone else about your program you will earn a little for doing so. Affiliate programs are focused on the personal sales volume, not recruiting.
Network marketing on the other hand, goes beyond a retailing commission and emphasizes the recruiting of others who will both purchase/sell products and recruit others who do so. MLMs encourages perpetuation of recruiting by spreading the commission through multiple tiers (referred to as levels).
There are affiliate programs for virtual (digital) products, like e-books, etc. and there are affiliate programs for services and solid products. Generally virtual products pay a single commission. Services and solid products are typically where you will find multiple payout tiers.
You will also find that virtual products and services will usually pay you more than solid products, sometimes as much as 70% or more. Also typically you will get paid less from companies whose affiliate programs are managed by the major affiliate networks.
Often you will only earn 2%-5% on most product sales with an occasional 10% on vitamins and certain other products through affiliate networks. Needless to say often it is not worth the effort and expense to promote these products.
The best most marketers can hope for is to earn a recurring commission on repeat purchases of customers they refer but not every product is a repeat sale and not every company will offer repeat sales commissions. Marketers who have succeeded with them have done so by driving massive targeted traffic to web pages they've created that review or compare products or services.
For example, they might build a web page comparing the different types of single-serve cappuccino coffee makers and then put a purchase link for each.
Another instance where affiliate networks might be useful are for those who operate a primary non-product oriented website but will advertise a link for a product. Either way, massive volumes of traffic are required for even a small response.
An important thing I want to emphasize about affiliate programs is they usually will not provide you with a recurring income. You will have to constantly look for, research and test new products to promote in order to keep the income flowing in. What is popular and very salable today probably won't be a year (or perhaps even a week) from now. Some products are really short-run or time sensitive.
The exception to the one-time commission would be affiliate programs for membership sites where you are paid each time your customers renew their subscription.
You should know that member sites have a very high attrition rate however (on an average 60%-90% of members will quit within a year) so you still need to continually promote to keep members coming in to replace the drop-outs.
Why should you bother with affiliate marketing at all? Mainly because of the high percentage payout potential and the ability to earn quickly. For instance, if you sell a product that pays you say, $20 a sale and you sell 2 a day you will get a check for $1200 next month. And that is just one product.
So if you sell 3 or 4 products that sell like that you would be pulling in 3 or 4 times more. By contrast, an MLM program will take you months or even years to build a network large enough to produce that kind of money.
So you can see the appeal and another reason why most of the gurus teach people affiliate marketing as a primary business.
As I mentioned above, as an affiliate marketer you will constantly have to seek out new information products to sell in order to keep a steady income flowing in. Smart affiliates will seek out highly specialized niche products.
The marketing competition is less fierce and since niche buyers are very devoted to their niched interest they make excellent targeted prospects.
Additionally, most niche products have a very good 'shelf life', meaning the product is less likely to reach internet saturation and the information contained less likely to become stale.
Many a marketer has made a very comfortable income online by simply finding a group of hungry niche buyers and providing those people with the info products they crave.
In closing, Affiliate Marketing certainly can be a great way to make money online but it is not as easy as some would have you to believe.
You will have to work at finding products to promote, build basic websites and utilize a variety of techniques to drive traffic to your product sales pages. You will also need plenty of patience because overnight online riches are more rare than big time lotto winners.
But if you take the time to learn, work hard and apply yourself you can earn a very good living online. Who knows, perhaps in time you might even become an affiliate marketing millionaire.

Is It a Good Idea to Buy an Email List for Email Marketing?
The 'key ingredient' in email marketing is having a quality email list - 'quality' being the operative term.
This means having a list of emails that you have gathered by launching marketing campaigns, usually via a reputable email marketing service (like GetResponse or Aweber), with specific topics. In other words, these are lists of people that you know are truly interested in the specific topics of your campaigns.
Conversely, quality email lists are usually not the ones you can buy online. Why not? Well, can you really trust the person that is telling you that the emails they are selling you are of people genuinely interested in e.g. gardening or whatever other topic you are involved with?
I remember in earlier days of eBay, there were email lists on sale with supposedly millions of emails, that could be bought for under one dollar - how valuable do you think they were? The old adage 'you get what you pay for' may even have been an overstatement in this case.
And usually you could recognize the scam immediately for what it was, after buying these lists, by the mere fact that there were usually not 'millions' but only a few hundred emails (if even that many).
Another reason that purchased email lists do not work, is that the people you contact using these lists, do not know you, are not expecting to hear from you, have not given you, personally, permission to contact them and thus will most likely not recognize you, trust you, or click your email (if it even reaches their inbox and is not weeded out by the increasingly effective spam detectors). Furthermore, what you are doing is called 'spamming' and, guess what, it's illegal!
To make a more general point that also applies here, in online marketing you need to know as much about your audience as possible. Your efforts need to be 'targeted', tailored to your potential buyers. You need to have an idea about what they want, what part of the world they live in etc.
Two email addresses may represent two people from very different parts of the world, with vast socioeconomic differences and buying capacities, very different age groups etc. Wouldn't you want to know which email corresponds to which?
Just as an example, the toy industry, a multi-billion-dollar industry, expended great resources in order to figure out how to market to a part of the population that has zero buying power (children). And they succeeded by inventing ingenious ways to bypass the children and target their parents, by introducing the so-called 'nagging' effect.
Again, I mention that just as an example of the power of specificity and targeting in your marketing efforts, which naturally also applies to your email list. You absolutely need to know how the emails on the list were collected, if they correspond to people genuinely interested in a specific topic (again, don't take a stranger's word for that or anything else pertaining to your valuable business), the financial fortitude of these people etc.

Key Benefits Of Affiliate Marketing
Since I decided to take the plunge 5 years ago and start working for myself as an online marketer, affiliate marketing has been the best thing I ever got involved in and is now part of my daily schedule.
It is without doubt something that all people who are interested in starting an online business or those who already have an online business, should investigate and take up.
If you are undecided or have little knowledge about affiliate marketing then I hope that you find the below information helpful and that it will clear up any doubts that you have over what the key benefits of affiliate marketing are.
1. Commission basis
For the affiliate marketer this is a key advantage as every time that somebody makes a purchase, the affiliate receives a set commission of the profit. For the affiliate merchant this is an advantage as they only pay the marketer when they make a sale, so no money is wasted on marketing spend.
2. Huge audience
For the affiliate marketer - having built up various marketing lists or websites, they can make use of their huge audience base and ensure that the traffic they send over to the merchant is qualified and that sales are made, making the affiliate more money.
For the affiliate merchant - they receive access to a wider audience base than they may have had before, creating more interest in their products, resulting in more sales and all without investing any more money or time.
3. Ease
For the affiliate marketer - once they have set up their additional sites and links across to the merchant, it is very simple to manage and often affiliates will continue to make money from sales without having done anything for months.
For the affiliate merchant - they do not have to invest time and money writing content or creating expensive images in order to promote their services/ products. Instead affiliates will apply to be a part of their programme and all the merchant need do is have many affiliates all working towards promoting their products/ services and wait for the sales to flood in.
4. Steady cost
For the affiliate marketer - building on the last point, an affiliate can keep receiving commission from sales of a product or service for years, despite not doing a lot of work to promote it. You do need to invest time at the start but then you have a regular source of income coming in for the market life of the service/ product.
For the affiliate merchant - they set up all the costs so the chance to make a huge profit on sales without having spent much on marketing, is very likely. They do not have to pay their affiliates much per sale to make the business relationship worthwhile, as it tends to work best on a quantity basis so everyone is happy with the set amounts.
5. Brand Visibility
For the affiliate - there is a lot to be gained reputation wise from working with a range of brands and you will find that you get a lot more work should you be able to prove that you have succeeded with others in the past.
For the affiliate merchant - they receive free brand exposure on a continual basis, which is never a bad thing. If you have many affiliates working on promoting your brand, you'll soon see a boost in search engine rankings and online sales; Amazon.com is an excellent example of where this has worked in the past.
6. Outsourced expertise
For the affiliate marketer - they get the continued experience to improve and work on their methods of online marketing, investing only their time, not money.
For the affiliate merchant - they will be able to utilise all kinds of affiliates who are experts in SEM (search engine marketing) and SEO (search engine optimisation) without investing a lot of money, yet still manage to get to the top of Google rankings.
7. Transparency
For the affiliate marketer - through the various affiliate programmes, it is possible to see exactly when sales are made and payment is automatic, so you do not have to worry about chasing merchants for payments.
For the affiliate merchant - they can see and manage their R.O.I (return on investment) extremely easily and do not have to worry about tracking the origin of each sale.
8. Online market
For the affiliate marketer - there are an endless number of affiliate programmes out there and the demand for online shopping is not going to decrease, so the earning potential for affiliates is huge. You can access any number of markets with your affiliate work, whether you choose jewellery, hygiene, pet insurance or food.
Use long tail pro to find targeted long tail keywords with low competition, ensuring maximum affiliate sale for you.
For the affiliate merchant - as previously mentioned, online demand is not going away any time soon, therefore merchants are able to continue to expand product ranges to meet a range of online markets with the knowledge that they have a number of affiliates on hand to promote quickly and at a low cost.
9. Home-based work (aimed at affiliate marketer)
If you become successful in the world of affiliate marketing then it is entirely possible to create a long term Passive Income from it and a huge bonus to this is that you can work cheaply from home and be your own boss. You don't have to pay to sign up to affiliate programmes and there are a huge number to choose from, all from the comfort of your own home.
10. Overcoming tradition (aimed at affiliate merchant)
Using affiliates to promote your products and services will guarantee that you receive a lot more exposure than you would by using more pricey traditional marketing methods. Having a number of affiliates promoting what you are selling and only being paid when a sale is made, is one of the most cost effective marketing methods ever as well as being incredibly successful.

The Steps to Increase Web Traffic Through Email Marketing
If you are in search of web traffic, email marketing is one of the best methods. This is usually employed by a lot of marketers since you will have the direct contact with your target buyers.
You will also be able to control who your recipients are because the email lists are screened prior to email blasting. With this, you can expect higher conversion rates.
A systematized and profitable email marketing venture can be done in three easy steps:
Step 1: Use a Bulk Email Service
Signing up to a bulk service is the very first step in your email marketing venture. The bulk email services can be utilized after you have paid the required fee and your account is set up immediately. Once you have access to the bulk email service, you can now proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Draft Your Ad Message
When you have already signed up for the bulk service, you can now log in any time you wish and get ready to draft your ad message or your email.
The bulk email service will provide tutorials, templates and editors that will be utilized in making your ads. No technical knowledge is necessary. You can input text or HTML and view your ads before posting them.
Step 3. Send Large Volumes of Email
When the email content is ready, the mass service will begin sending emails to the recipients found in the database. Take note, this is done in few minutes which is entirely different from manual submission.
What Mass Email Service Should Be Used
Email marketing will not just immediately give you web traffic. When not done effectively or when you happen to use a inefficient bulk services, this will not give the traffic you need. You cannot just grab any email services online. Be extra careful or else you will just waste your money.
Primarily, check on the email lists that the mass service offers. You need web traffic which is impossible when the lists are not your target buyers. There is a need that these lists are regularly updated to ensure that when the email messages hit the recipients inboxes, they are read.
The bulk email you will choose should not be expensive. You can really find the less costly one with several functional features included. The email service must be easy to set up, must be integrated with affiliate marketing and must allow you to send emails in different format like when the email is in text or HTML.
One of the issues you need to be aware about email marketing is the spamming and the bouncing back of emails. These will lessen the effectiveness of the email marketing venture. The bulk email services you have to invest with must be guaranteed secure and will not disclose your ISP when blasting the email.
You can search for reviews that will tell how effective a certain bulk service is. You should be smart about who you sign up with before paying anything for the email service.

Why So Many People Crash In Affiliate Marketing
More and more people are lured into affiliate marketing and you might be one of them. Indeed, affiliate marketing is one of the most effective means of generating a full-time income through the Internet. It's a fair deal between the merchandiser and his affiliates as both benefit from each sale materialized.
Like in other kinds of business, a great deal of the profits in affiliate marketing depends on the affiliates selling, advertising and promoting strategies. Everyday, as affiliate marketing industry expands, competition heightens as well so an affiliate marketer must be creative enough to employ effective and unique ways to convince potential buyers to purchase or avail of the products and services offered.
Compared to traditional advertising practices, affiliate programs are more effective, risk-free and cost-efficient.
Reasons people fail in affiliate marketing
So why do many people still fail in affiliate marketing? There are a lot of reasons and a lot of areas in the program to look into.
The most critical aspect in the affiliate program is advertising. It is the most important thing all other kinds of business as well; many affiliate marketers fail in this aspect because they lack hard work. Although it pays to be lucky, you cannot merely rely on it. Affiliate marketing isn't as simple as directing customers to the business site.
You must invest in yourself
If you want to earn big, of course, you have to invest time and great amount of hard work in promoting the products. The competition is very high and customers nowadays are very wise, too, as earlier mentioned. After all, who doesn't want to get the best purchase? That is, to pay less and get more in terms of quality and quantity.
Being prepared is critical in affiliate marketing
Lack of preparation is also a reason why one fails in affiliate marketing, whether he is a merchandiser or an affiliate. Part of the preparation is researching. On the part of the merchant, he has to be highly selective in choosing the right affiliate websites for his affiliate program.
In order to be sure he has the best choices, he must have exhausted his means in looking for highly interested affiliates whose sites are sure fit to his products and services. The affiliate site's visitors must match his targeted customers. On the other hand, the affiliate marketer must likewise research on the good-paying merchandisers before he signs up for an affiliate program.
He must ensure that the merchant's products and services match his interests so he can give his full dedication and attention to the program.
He can get valuable information by joining affiliate forums, comparing different affiliate programs and reading articles on affiliate marketing where he can get tips from experienced affiliate marketers on how to choose the best merchants and products with high conversion rate.
Your website is critical to the success of your affiliate business
The website is a very important tool in the whole affiliate program. You should plan how your site is going to be, from domain name to the design, the lay-out, the content, and ads, as a marketer. Some users are particular about what they see at first glance and thus when they find your site ugly, they won't spend their time looking at your site.
On the other hand, there are those who want information more than anything else. Marketers with "rich-content" web sites are usually the ones who prosper in this business because the content improves traffic to the site.
Websites with high quality contents and relevant keywords are the best optimized sites. Having the right information about the product and service and not just a bunch of empty hyped-up advertisements will allow you to earn big in affiliate marketing even when you're asleep.
If you're not able to sustain the interest of your site visitor, you won't be able to lead them to purchase. No click-through means no sale and thus, no income on your part. Selecting a top level domain name is also crucial to the success of the affiliate program.
Lots of affiliate sites don't appear in the search engine results because they are deemed by affiliate managers as personal sites.
Major search directories and engines would think of your site as a transient one and thus, they won't list it in the directory.
Know first what you are going to promote, before you decide on the domain name. Even if they feature the exact products the customer is looking for, the customer might think the site is not relevant and becomes weary of the site contents.
An educated affiliate is a successful affiliate
Above all, an affiliate marketer must be willing to learn more. Certainly, there are still a lot of things to learn so an affiliate marketer must continue to educate himself so he can improve his marketing strategies. Many fail because they don't grow in the business and they are merely concerned about earning big commissions quickly.
If you want long-term and highly satisfactory results, take time to learn the ins and outs of the business. Continue to improve your knowledge especially with the basics in marketing ranging from advertising to programming, web page development, and search engine optimization techniques.
Likewise, study the needs and wants of your site users and how different merchandisers compete with each other.
If your initial attempts are failures do not give up. Keep plugging away. Do not get disappointed. You see, thousands are attracted by the possibility of generating skyrocketing incomes through affiliate marketing and so they sign up in any affiliate program without carefully understanding every aspect of the business.
When they don't get instant results, they quit and sign up for another program and repeat the process of just copying links and referring them to others. When you sign up for an affiliate program, don't expect to get rich in an instant.
Work on your advertising strategies and be patient. Stay focused and become the best student you can be and you will not be one that crashes in affiliate marketing.
