my review of brat by charlie xcx (or rather review of modern music)
I have never liked pop music/culture because I have always felt a huge disconnect from these rich people who like to brag in the music they make about all the money they make and how they spend it in extravagant ways. I am not a jealous person, it's just that that lifestyle has, and never will, interest me. In Charlie xcxs' case, there is a sense of honesty that I will always respect even if it is apart of a very artificial sounding/overly-produced landscape that is the popular music that we all know and hear. For whatever reason, whenever I try to give any album a chance that is made within the "pop sphere", I just start to zone out while all the sounds coming out of my headphones are just muffled or rather drowned out while I start thinking about other shit (which is not a good thing imo). Each song just molds together, which can be a nice compliment in the sense that it means that the artist stuck to a particular sound that makes that album unique, but sadly I can't enjoy most of this music because I just cannot focus on it. The albums that I return to usually have songs that feel different from one another while also keeping to the already "established" sound that the artists wanted for that particular album but most modern music for me feels like every song is just repeating and repeating and repeating. I can admit that that might be a me "problem" but I truly do prefer older music where they actually play an instrument in their hands rather than just using samples and beats on a computer where everything sounds pitch perfect (there is nothing wrong with that though). For this album in particular, I have my qualms with it but putting those aside I genuinely do enjoy this album. I probably will never come back to it in all honesty, I have liked hyperpop in the past but I have never listened a full album in the genre, mostly because I like it in small bursts rather than a full experience. I really do hope that more people like Charlie xcx gets more respect and recognition, I can tell that Charli in specific does something different than most of her contemporaries (Taylor Swift, Drake, etc.). Sorry for this not being much of a review of the album, I just can't really think of anything notable to say or critique anything specific about it.
Favorite track is the 14th track: I think about it all the time Second favorite track is the 2nd track: Club classics
