He simply offered a toothy grin as he lifted Grythan from the vent with his one arm and placed him back down outside of it.
The question had him tapping his nose with a wink then also gestured for Grythan to look as he pointed out where the Neophytes passage had disturbed the dust, leaving clean tracks among the grime. After he looked expectantly at Grythan, as if to say âexplain what I just showed.â
cookingintheeyeâ:
âFine! I promise we wonât leave ⊠itâs too easy to get trampled on anyway out there! Iâll hide first!â Grythan pouted for a moment before quickly snapping back to his excited demeanor towards the idea of some sort of simple play.
The boy, at the threshold of no longer being considered a child and the ranks of a growing neophyte, was excited to have a cousin play along with him. It had been lonely once the others in Grythanâs batch had moved on for more one on one training with their mentors; Grythan left behind with Matthew as Galfain had been too busy the past few days to actually teach the boy.
Grythan giggled before tapping Crowâs armour with his hand.
âYou have to give me a head start, now!â He snickered before running away from Crow, dipping behind a corner and undoubltly into the hidden bowels of the compound.
Content with the agreement he nodded, before he found a smile growing on his face as Grythan rather quickly got over the limitations he had placed upon the game and proceeded to tag him.
A head start huh? Well, with how excited the kid was he wasnât going to really argue. An endulgent smile followed Grythan as he turned and ran off, closing his eyes and quietly counting to 60 before he rose. After all, Grythan had not said how Long of a head start he wanted.
Dark eyes considered where the child had ran before he followed, head swinging back and forth like a dog as he scented the air before he found himself grinning. He was at least still young enough to remember his time in the scout companies, and after that tracking and elimination.. and couldnât help the little grin that settled on his face as he pinpointed the scent and set off at a brisk walk to hunt the youth down.

Crow narrowed his eyes thoughtfully before he worked his way to the air duct noting the item that had been used to unscrew the frame and the patches of disturbed dust. What really sealed the deal however was how he could feel how the air moved, wiping around something that was in the way and finally prompted him to lean in a little to peak within the vents.
A grin rather quickly split across his face when he saw Grythan within, clearly seeming to say âfound youâ without ever uttering a word. The tool used to open the vent was worked about a second later so he could gently pull it free, a hand reaching and offered up to the boy, but not grabbing.

For once Grythan kept his little mouth shut as he squeezed into the overhang of the ventilation shaft, curious violet eyes peeping out as he only just managed to replace the grid before Crow finished counting.
Ducking down into the dip, Grythan could hear Crowâs footsteps approaching. He was actually excited by their little game, it really did bring one hell of a rush when he was so close to being caught.
Astartes of course were known for having better over all senses compared to their mortal counter parts, and occasionally he found himself pausing, both sniffing the air and drawing what scents he could over specialized organs.
It wasnât Hard to track, this heâd admit, but this was also the Neophytes stomping grounds. Old mingled with newer tracks, and the way the air moved here was different compared to what he was used too and it took him longer to filter through what he was learning.
Course, he also had to ask himself, if he was a neophyte.. where would he hide.
His dark eye swung upwards then assessing as he looked for anywhere dust may have been disturbed.

// a friendly reminder Iâm happy to share my discord for RP or plotting or general chatting. And you are more than welcome to IM me at any time!
In other news, Iâve got a good bit of Dev done for my homebrew. I just have to decide if I want to make it a side blog or a full blog here.
I also came to the realization I may actually have accidentally ended up seasonal when it comes to RP on here. Summer = too hot, brain melts. Winter is like.. brain juice time. Itâs strange.

The suggestion of hide and seek would have immediately been accepted, except for the fact he didnât know this place well, and he Was supposed to be watching the kid. It at least had Crow giving Grythan a thoughtful look.
âAs long as we do not leave your commons area. I do not know this place or your brothers well at all.. I am supposed to be watching you after all, and Iâd rather not get on Mathewâs bad side.â
He paused then rubbing his chin before adding, âIf someone else comes in besides your main caretaker whistle so I can deal with them. Or Alternatively, you can show me how you sneak and I can share how I was Taught.â
@cookingintheeye
Crow was.. admittedly started when he was approached to watch the Astartes younger Brothers.. wondering exactly just how much younger the other meant and perhaps his one eyed expression seemed to relay that where words could not.
Still.. he supposed it was a comparatively better request than he couldâve gotten. So he nodded, waving for the Stranger to show him whoâd he be minding.

âIn a way.â
Crow seemed to chuckle again, a fond quirk to his lips.
âI promise there wonât be stepping on here, but itâs good to remember what youâre Brother said. Not everyone is nice, and some Astartes can be actively cruel or mean to others.â
Then he nodded again in understanding over the hair color change. âIt will happen before you know it. Though being big isnât always everything. You got to be smart enough to outwit them and others bigger than you too. Iâm not the biggest of my brothers after all, but I make up for it by being more cunning, sneaky and faster than them.â
He emphasized his point by tapping the side of his skull, offering a slight toothy grin.

âI was picked up by the warband from one that.. wasnât as good as this.â
He wrote after a moments thought, âas for hair and eye color, well it likely works similar to how your brothers all look the same. All of mine were dark haired and dark eyed for the most part. Though it depends on who their genesire is.â

Winters Chill
Featuring: Sleipnir - OC astartes/ lone wolf of the Space wolves chapter
â
He didnât feel real anymore. Between the gnawing hunger, the pain that burned through his chest with every breath and the cold seeping into his limbs he knew he didnât have long left.
Yellow eyes turned upwards towards the fat moon that hung low in this worlds sky, longing then for a world he hadnât set foot on for centuries and Brothers that no longer drew breath.. wishing then as he always that he had seen trap that had heâd foolishly gotten them all trapped in.
Quietly he bundled his wolf fur closer, taking solace in the warmth it provided and the memories that clung like motes of light to it. Then he turned away from the moons watchful gaze and strode deeper into the forest.
Around him a cold fog settled in, swirling around his sabatons and the trees like ghost.. and perhaps, he thought, they were.
His brothers. His enemies. And the countless faceless dead. Claimed by war, famine, and plague, forgotten and left behind in his wake.
Perhaps tonight, theyâd see fit to finally let him join them,..
But somewhere deep within he knew better, but at least for tonight, he wasnât alone in his wandering.
â
â â
Low Resources
Featuring: Crow - OC astartes of unknown affiliation. Assumed renegade/loyalist
â
It was a memory. The lack of pain, his heavier steps, and the presence of both his hands and a full range of vision gave it away.. he suspected it was from when the mutations had first started to affect the crew.. but before it had gotten bad.
They had been running low on resources. Blood, drugs, bandages.. everything really. Between fighting to keep the creatures out and sending squads out to pull what supplies they could from abandoned corridors.
There just wasnât enough of them left.
So when squad Mar returned with one member, Grim, gravely injured and the other⊠well.. they at least brought him back.. though how he still had vital signs with half of his skull and face gone was a mystery.
None the less he leaned to sniff both his brothers carefully.
The one ran through the gut had a harsh scent to him, warning of possible infection if he wasnât treated soon, while the other had the first tinges of death threatening to set in. A void that was growing with every beat of the others heart.
Theyâd have to make this quick then.
A single look had them hauling brother Grim up onto one of the tables, restraining his limbs so he and his mentor could better see what could be done.
Quick as a snake he swiped a bead of blood, tasting it first before doing the same to their fallen brother⊠a match. Roughly. If brother grim ended up needing a transplant. Better though, they could do a blood transfusion.
So he fetched a needle and line, tapping into one and getting the line flowing before hooking brother grim up, watching as the other at least lost some of the ashen look to his face before they had him bite into a wood and leather handle of a knife.
The rest was carried out in silence. Sound would only draw the creatures in, and that.. wouldâve been death.

If anything Crow was pleased Grythan accepted the pats, and felt that grin of his widen a touch as he wiggled his hand side to side at the assumption. Old habits and other things really kept him from making much noise at all, as talking.. well hurt beyond basic noises, and he was sure to at least write that down for Grythan the second he was passed the paper and insured he only wrote on the back of something that didnât look important.
Crow was sure to give Grythan a nod of thanks for that quick action too, rising to move over to a position where he could easily watch the door as well as the room, waving Grythan to go back to what heâd been doing.
âIf you have questions, feel free to ask. Iâll answer them the best I can.â

As soon as Matthew had left Grythan walked cautiously towards Crow; he'd never seen him around here before.
"You, erm Crow! I've never seen you around here before but you must be alright if Matthew's letting you watch me. Well I hope you last longer than the serfs! It's not my fault they can't wrestle well!" Grythan spoke up with his chest puffed out, obviously hiding the fact he was nervous as hell around Crow.
Crow couldnât help but grin at Grythan as the kid edged towards him. It was almost cute really, though he very much understood where the caution came from. One never knew how other astartes would react, especially when you were as young as the boy was.. more so in warbands.
So he nodded at the assumption and moved to kneel, a hand reaching out to playfully mess the Neophytes hair the second he was close enough a silent laugh causing his shoulders to shake at the comment about the serfs.
A moment later that hand withdrew to mime writing, offering a friendly head quirk as his dark eyes gleamed with amusement.

Crow found himself raising a brow as they entered the crew section, his single eye darting too and fro as he assessed where they where going along with entry points and exits.. and found his surprise only growing when they finally entered a room and he got to see the boy that was there.
Amusement briefly flashed across his face when the kid dropped the knife and stood to attention the second they entered. He dipped his head in a polite but silent greeting, glad at least he was being introduced so he wouldnât have too.. and quietly chuckling to himself at the thought of the kid accidentally mauling a poor serf.. having rather fond memories of doing just that himself as a boy, along with his brothers.
Then he was shoved forward and he grunted in complaint, sending a look at Matthew that seemed torn between exasperation and annoyance for the action before turning his attention on Grythan with a lopsided smile and head tilt.
Matthew smiled as he inspected his new babysitter. Now while he would have usually brought Grythan along with him while hunting for new ingredients today was not the day.
"You'll be minding Grythan today, now he's rather energetic so you'll have your hands full today." Matthew explained as he lead Crow into what must have been a common living area for the old crew, now molded into a space to contain curious Neophytes from getting their hands torn off by some monstrosity this warband had on hand.
Sitting in the middle of the room, polishing a combat knife someone had left behind, was a young boy, around the age of recruitment from the bits of baby fat that still clung to his face. The boy looked, he seemed almost surprised to see someone along side his brother.
"Brother! Your back!" Grythan called out, dropping the knife to the floor as he stood to attention before he stared at Crow, clearly curious about the guest,
"Who's that?" The boy asked.
"Your new babysitter Grythan, this is Crow. Now, do try to behave this time! I'm sick of having to listen to menials complain about the unfortunate need to amputate their fingers after you played too rough." Matthew smirked, patting Crow on the back hard to shove him forward, "He's all yours! Just try not to kill him Little Raven!"
