NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY Streaming Project During Summer 2020, in the midst of the the Covid-19 crisis, @northeastern decided to update 165 classrooms in 16 buildings on the Boston campus to enable remote participation to complement in-person learning. BLOOM was selected for this fast-track initiative, working closely with NU Facilities, Turner Construction's site team, and RW Sullivan Engineers, to ready the campus for Fall 2020 classes. Each room was fitted with multiple voice-tracking cameras, distributed microphone and speaker arrays, and new teaching equipment and controls. To support the rooms, the team new created infrastructure rooms in each building, including data centers, IT rooms and A/V closets, housing equipment racks and extensive cooling equipment. Despite the incredible pressure and very unusual circumstances, the classrooms were up and running on time for the student's return, and the campus infrastructure is in place for future semesters.

CHESTNUT HILL - This just completed renovation emphasizes an open flow of space, a connection to the landscape and outdoor living spaces, and functional workspace for the home's center of activity. The client wanted something that felt appropriate for the more historic home, yet modern and current, which translated to a aesthetic pared down to essential elements, highlighting beautiful materials and accents. Storage was important for the clients and their young family, so in order to balance the openness of the opposite cooking area, we created a bank of concealed storage, containing a pantry, cookbooks, electronics, and art supplies. Low open shelves created a perfect spot for kid-accessible books and storage. The color palette was kept neutral and warm, with bold moments such as dark green cabinetry, black windows and doors, lime plaster custom hood, and a luminous green ceiling in the laundry /mud room. Thanks to @kvcbuilders @scandiakitchens for the great work and photos by @natreaphotography

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF LYNN- The first phase of a multi-phase master plan to expand the offerings of the BGCL. This phase is a complete renovation of the 1922 historic Knights of Columbus building facing North Common Street. BLOOM was charged with creating a new modern atmosphere within the historic shell. The main floor houses a lobby, S.T.E.A.M. Center, Info Center, parent space, staff offices and a board room. Glass walls were used to create the maximum transparency between spaces for daylight, safety and monitoring of activities. Below is the Teen Center, with a tech center, open lounge area with gaming, learning space, dance studio, fitness room, teen conference room, and flexible space to congregate, organize and socialize. The Teen Center is designed to feel like a college campus for the older kids to have as their own area, with flexible lounge furniture, reconfigurable rooms, and spaces to study and create projects. The school-age child care center occupies the top floor, with bright open spaces, a vibrant color scheme, and two large reconfigurable classrooms with a retractable wall. Adjacent, the large recreation space is fit out with beanbags, movable activity tables, art and computer areas, and a section of artificial turf for play. The coming phases include a new 20,000 sq. ft. 3-story steel framed building connecting two historic buildings, and renovations to the 1945 Art Deco Gymnasium building. The combined 50,000 sq. ft. program will add a cafeteria, dance, music and drama areas, a game room, additional S.T.E.A.M. space, and second gymnasium will provide a separate recreation for different age groups. WILLIS HALL- This residence hall design is one in a series of residence halls BLOOM is currently transforming and modernizing on the Northeastern Campus. The traditional entry sequence of circulation and unstructured lobby seating is transformed into a social center for study, socializing, community events and special campus programs. Our design of the lounge sequence, adds small forgotten pockets of space to the main entry space, creating a sense of expansive and interconnected social areas. The design emphasizes the flow of space through the building from a campus street to the courtyard on the opposite side. @northeastern
