with love. you have to fact check shit. yes you. you still have to fact check shit. a lot of people are great at fact checking stuff they don’t want to be true, but somehow are still absolute ass at fact checking stuff that’s rhetorically convenient to them. even people my age, who I KNOW grew up doing internet/bibliography literacy workshops, and being warned not to believe anything that isn’t reliably sourced, people who DO harp on fact checking conservative output or whatever, are still kneejerk sharing unsourced shit that is partially or wholly untrue or misleading, because it suits whatever narrative they’re pursuing in that moment, without even a “take this with a grain of salt”. fact check!!!!!! look at the sources!!!!! yes it’s a drag!!! do it!!!!!

As for theme day suggestions, given that there's a bigger reader than writer number, I am thinking of going either with broader themes or I'll ask the writer's specifically to vote for different themes. While I want the themes to be fun, I also don't want to impair anyone's creativity!

I am thinking of maybe doing 2 free for all days instead of one!

Something good, i passed that one class i hated and wasn't doing do hot on!

I know you didn't go to culinary school, but do you know of any classes there thar are famously hard or so boring that people fail?

I love that you are answering them all haha!! I am finally emerging from my recovery haze and it’s great. Kind of nice to have the hardest weeks out of the way st the top of the season, but shit, it was some super human behavior to pull it all off!

I love that you passed that class!! That is amazing! You should be very proud. I’m proud of you! Everyone sound off your support!

Depending on the type of culinary degree, there can be a lot of science/math involved that plagues people. Pastry requires a lot of chemistry. Some degrees and some schools involve a lot of the science around metabolic rates and food science, and that trips people up, but typically people that don’t do well with those courses aren’t interested in those types of degrees.

I personally use a lot of algebra in my day to day because we do so much scaling up/down as well as multiplying recipes because every event is different, and I know a lot of cooks who went to school and didn’t that have a very hard time with that side of the job, so maybe that’s kind of applicable, too.

For those of you that did go to culinary school, what are your thoughts??

i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.

make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.

spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.
