More on Miles and his shenanigans.
What has happened since we last updated each other:
Alaska is set on getting miles a girlfriend
Miles puked over said possible girlfriend (Lara)
We met jake, Alaska’s boyfriend
The weekday warriors flooded Alaska’s room thus ruining her precious library
Takumi told Miles Alaska ratted on Myra
Pudge (Miles) stay with Alaska for thanksgiving at the Creek, they entered the now empty students dorms.
Miles officially has decided that he likes Alaska
They ate thanksgiving dinner at the Colonels house “Now I understand why the Colonel was short—he couldn’t afford to be any taller”
They decided to perform a pre-prank (juniors and seniors always do an end of the year prank)
Takumi, Lara, the Colonel, Alaska and Pudge performed said prank
At this point in the story we know a lot more about Miles whose name is officially Pudge. He and the Colonel have become really good friends. He shared their last basketball season game with Miles having a concussion right after the colonel had angered one of the opponents, getting Miles hit in the head with a basketball. He puked on his date at the time Lara. It was at said game that we met Alaskas boyfriend Jake whom Miles is keen on disliking despite him being unable to due to his nice personality.
Some days later, after it had been raining for a week at Culver’s, the Weekday Warriors had flooded Alaskas room, igniting the flame for revenge. Not long after, when the rain had just stopped, Takumi told Miles that it was actually Alaska the one who ratted on Myra and not one of the WW. This led to Miles doubting on whether or not to keep trusting her. Takumi explains that (just like Miles) he thinks she should not have exposed their friends. She was caught be the eagle sneaking out to see her current boyfriend Jake and carrying alcohol despite being underage. He questioned her and exchanged her not being expelled for everything she knew about illicit shenanigans at school.
Later on Alaska asks Miles to stay at Culver’s with her for thanksgiving. Miles agrees with the thought of being able to spend time alone with her. When the time comes, after several adventures with Alaska, Miles comes to the conclusion that he is in fact, in love with her. He is in love with a girl with a boyfriend. He duels on Alaskas attitude towards him and how unpredictable she is. They end up having thanks giving dinner with the Colonel and his mom at his camper house. There Miles realizes why the Colonel hates rich people so much. He grew up in a trailer truck no bigger than their room at Culver’s.
Miles spends Christmas and the New years at home with his parents. He is thankful to have a family that loves him (unlike Alaska as she says).
After school break is over, Miles comes back to school to find that Alaska has already decided on a prank for their Pre-Prank. Miles feels excluded due to the Colonel and Alaska excluding from the planning.
Finally on very cold January night in Alabama, they go to the Creek to start their prank on what seems to be a life changer for Miles and Culver’s school.

Looking for Alaska, but are we?
Since having been introduced to Alaska Young, our friend Pudge has found his self in what we would call, new adventures.
He has been
-Kidnaped
-introduced to tabacco
-gotten used to smoking
-gone to his first basketball game
-and the best part of it all: he as eaten his first bufriedo.
Bufriedos: Culver Creeks culinary delicacy, a fried burrito made by Maureen, the schools cook, whom according to Miles (Pudge) has a wonderful ability to make anything deep fried taste delicious. The one thing she cannot do (according again to what Miles said) is cook meatloaf.
We have also been introduced to Takumi. Alaskas and the Colonel friend who has a talent for rapping. To Mr. (el nombre del Viejo) who teaches them about world religion and testing Alaskas levels of patience.
We now know also about the WeekDay Warriors: students of Culver Creek who stay in campus Monday thought Friday and go back to their parents fancy mansions and country clubs. It was one of them who kidnapped Pudge and threw him in the lake, making it the begging of a war between the Weekday Warriors and our protagonists.
We know that it all started because Alaskas previous roommate got caught by the Eagle (the school) principal, with her boyfriend, which got them expelled. Why is this important? The weekday warriors think that it was the Colonel who told on them.
Fun fact: Miles has a crush on Alaska. Who has a boyfriend (Jake) to whom she is only loyal to (according to the colonel) out of spite

Looking for Alaska
Where to start?
Looking for a Alaska is a coming of age romance book written by Jhon Green, author of books such as:
- The foult in our stars
- Paper towns
- An Abundance of Katherine’s
- Will Grayson will Grayson
- Turtles all the way down
We decided to read or re-read this books because we are both really big fans of it, as well as having previously read other books by Jhon Green.
Valeria:
I have read all of Jhon Green books except for his last release “The Anthropocene Reviewed”. Every time I have really enjoyed them since I find it easy to relate to his characters. My forever favorite will always be “Paper Towns”, however “Turtles all the way down” and “Looking for Alaska” are a close second.
Sofia:
Let’s talk business…
The book is narrated by Miles, who starts of this story by telling us how he had really REALLY low expectations for his Good-bye party, we learn that he is in fact not popular at his current school (unlike what his parents thought)
His parents get to see what Miles goes through socially when only two people show to the Goodbye party. And even though his parents think this is the reason he is going away for college, the real reason is because Miles just want to find new things in life.
Miles talks a lot about famous people and their last words and quote them. When he gets to school he meets his roomate, Chip.
Chip is the typical roomate who becomes best friends with Miles, in the books he is really funny, and rather then being called by his name, he and other call him The Colonel, which ends up giving Miles a nickname too, Pudge.
Right after, Miles meets Alaska, shes just special. And Miles and Alaska get to talk during the first day b y the lake about famous people and authors and quotes.
Thats what we've read so far, we´ve got to know the characters and how they interact with each other. I can't wait to see how their dynamic develop through the book because we've seen a lot of differences from when we read it in spanish than now reading it in English.
This is Alaska in the show Looking for Alaska :).

The REAL golden trio.

For Sofia, one of the best parts of the book is when we get to meet Annabeth, who’s daughter of Atena.
I think because it sets another plot for Percy who has already been developing through the chapters. It’s also the time where Percy finally feels like he belongs at Camp Half Blood.
But also even though during the quest it might be a little left aside, we think it’s worth to see how the dynamic between the three main characters is built. Annabeth and Grover become trusting companions of Percy.
One of the greatest things about this book is that we learn without knowing we are. Specially for the Greek Mythology and specially me (Sofia) I hope I learn all the Greek gods by the end of the reading haha.
We love Percy and Grover’s friendship too. I think it also has a great developing from the start where Grover was more worried about keeping him alive than being a friend maybe.
But by the point of where we are we see a lot more trust and care for EACH OTHER.
“No! Even if you are half barnyard animal, you’re my best friend and I don’t want you to die!” is a great example of that.
We also believe Luke was right about how the whole war was over a misunderstand that could be solved if the Gods talked to each other.
So sending 12 year olds to fight this quest makes you kind of wonder if that could’ve been solved by… you know, the adults. But we understand this is a kids book too.
And regarding my (Valeria) feeling I think that all of the overall character developing of Luke is pretty great. It not only shows how people can be very gullable under the right circumstances, but it also lets you know that what happened to him could’ve very well happened to Percy.
Never was he really portrayed as evil but he was (just as Percy was too) very upset about the whole situation. And had Percy let his anger win over the story might have had a different outcome.
ALSOOO, they wrapped filming the show so I’m pretty excited about that!!! It’s in post production at the moment and I think it’s going to be released later this year? Maybe? IDK. -Sofia.

We hate Nancy Bobofit. Welcome to our TedTalk (joke)
We finished the first three chapters, and so we started reading, we begun to get more excited as the story started to develop.
First, INTRODUCING THEEEE Percy Jackson, who narrates his story.
He's a 12 year old boy who attends Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids. Something really important to mention is that Percy has dyslexia and ADHD, which for a young teens book, is really impressing to find inclusion about deficits in language and behavior.
He has never made above a C- and he's constantly told by his teacher Mr. Brunner that he can do better and expects great things from him. Percy doesnt believe that most of the times. He has a hard time controlling his temper, he sometimes has outbursts and explodes.
Percy is very caring for his friends, which leads us to Grover.
Grover is Percy's best friend, also a very caring boy, and it's mentioned that he looks older than the kids on their grade and he probably was held back a few years in school.
Percy and Grover joined their class in a school field trip, where they had to put up with... Nancy Bobofit...
Nancy. Bobofit.
Percy (like Valeria and I), hates Nancy Bobofit.
Nancy is a redhead, freckly girl, he adds kleptomaniac to her description. Well, she kind of is, since you find her pickpocketing the tourists in the museum.
She annoys Grover and during the field trip she won't shut up, which makes Percy loose focus and also his temper, he ends up telling her to shut up and getting in trouble.
AND SHE THROWS THINGS AT GROVER, INCLUDING HER LUNCH. Percy REALLY. DOESNT. LIKE. HER. and so do we at some point.
Nancy continues to be mean all along the trip, which ends up causing Percy to be called out by one of the teacher chaperones, Mrs Dodds. A mean math teacher who has it against him.
They go inside the building, and as this goes by, the strangest things start to happen. There is thunder striking, and the teacher uses the strangest words and says the weirdest things, she has eyes like fire an all of the sudden, we are met by this monster with claws and no teacher to be found. Then Mr Brunner comes out of nowhere, and after a slash to the throat, the former teacher Mrs Dodds is gone.
Outside there is rain, Grover, Mr Brunner, along with Nancy and her nasty friends look and act as if nothing happened. They say there NEVER WAS a Mrs Dodds to begin with.

"Look, I didn't want to be a Half-blood."
Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief
By Rick Riordan.
Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult, Greek Mythology.
About the author:
Rick Riordan, or how he's called by the fan base of the books, "Uncle Rick", was born in San Antonio, Texas.
He taught English and Social Studies for 8 years in San Francisco.
His son Haley was the inspiration to create Percy Jackson's character.
He speaks Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French.
A fun fact about him is that, like Valeria, he never watched the movie adaptations since he didn't want the movies to change the way he imagined the characters and the way they acted.
And he also doesn't like audiobooks because the characters don't sound like he would have liked it.
Why Percy Jackson?
For me, I'm really excited to read this series, specially the first book since I'm looking forward to the new series on Disney+. I know the characters a little bit and from what I've heard from my friends, so getting to actually know them and read about them it's fantastic. I already started reading and I'm obsessed!
-Sofia
I first heard about the Percy Jackson series back when I was in middle school, however I never got my self to read it. I have read the separate series "The lost hero" and really liked it, si figure, why not give it a chance ? I think that was the best decision, I really like Percy's witty comments and love his sassy attitude. I think it is so fun to learn about him once again.
-Valeria
