i do think devil's minioners should spend more time addressing the numerous times daniel is very specifically racist to armand. ive seen people brush it off as daniel reacting to armand's manipulations, but almost all of the microaggressions happen before the 2x05 reveal and the especially egregious ones (sexualizing him, interrogating his religion, talking about him like he's not in the room) are directed at fake rashid in s1. daniel is very specifically belittling a character he assumes he has power over, and he only stops when he realizes the true power dynamics (he still continues to belittle real rashid!). even beyond the ways this makes daniel a more flawed character than many people want to acknowledge, it adds another dynamic to his relationship with armand, who we knowww has a long history of complicated power dynamics. what does it mean for armand to enter into a relationship with another white man who objectifies him? for daniel's respect to be implicitly contingent on armand's vampiric powers? and the impact of those powers lessening after daniel is turned? armand ends season 2 in a very vulnerable position, while daniel is the most powerful he's ever been and has gotten rich off information that armand's spent decades- if not centuries- trying to hide. that's something they're gonna have to address
#i am a devil’s minioner to my core but like i’m so nervous for the show getting into it for this reason#like i feel like there is a smart and interesting way to handle all of this#especially seeing as like this show’s whole thing is that these are all questionable people at best#but as a white woman i have no idea what it is#and i really don’t have much faith in a from my knowledge almost entirely white writers room to handle it well#especially given a lot of how they have handled race so far especially post nola#like i get daniel is kind of meant to be like the type of liberal who thinks he’s superior for being liberal#while still having a LOT of issues surrounding minorities#or at least that’s how he reads to me#but like. i feel you have to actually address it at some point
