This map shows the old survey as a black line of the Victoria Tunnel in Newcastle and the modern survey by Ordnance Survey as a green line of the actual tunnel. This tunnel was used to transport coal to the River Tyne as a way of not paying road tax to transport coal to the Tyne. Back then, it would have been expensive to pay road tax, much like today.
