feel like we don't talk enough about the fact that shen qingqiu was fully prepared to die in the invasion of cang qiong to save his disciples, and not just in terms of without-a-cure. when he challenged sha hualing to a palm strike, he expected to die, his exact thoughts were "with this one strike, he'd ensure there were no winners", and he went in expecting his body to self destruct before liu qingge showed up.

it's such an important piece of characterization because shen yuan is often ranting in his head about "surviving at any cost" and "cheating his way out of it", but when he's actually faced with any kind of danger, his very first reaction is to protect the people around him with his life, without hesitation.

I love Fei and Qing Geng so much it hurts, but that might just be from how much the writers tried to hit the viewers on the head with their story parallels. Their arc was when I truly started trusting the writers. But that’s another post, because I’m rewatching Ran Yi’s arc right now and it’s kinda crazy how much Ran Yi actually did for the story. He serves his role as a fantastic level 1 adventurers’ first adversary, but his story also introduces nearly every major theme and mechanic our protagonists will encounter on their journey. It wasn’t until the final episodes that I truly understood why he was in the plot, and during this rewatch that I realized how much more his story actually did to establish parallels so early on. Ran Yi as a character isn’t as important to the overarching story as Fei and Qing Geng are, but he needed to exist so that his story could color all those that came after him. Not a catalyst - a mirror, a dream.

Episode 26 really is one of my favorite episodes by far. There are so many good beats between Zhuo Yichen and Zhao Yuanzhou.

The "I understand you" conversation

The "I will no longer seek death" promise

the "Zhuo Yichen can make Zhao Yuanzhou put away his demonic energy with a hand touch" moment

The "I'm going freeze myself in a block of ice for eternity instead of you, you dummy" mutual frozen moment (love is the cure here too).

I always love Yichen. He is my absolute favorite. But boy does all the reasons I love Zhao Yuanzhou get punctuated in this episode.

They are both such over-the-top self-sacrificial dummies who deserve each other.

The gayest moments in Fangs of Fortune

In no particular order. There are so so many, but I cut myself off here, so this post didn't get crazy long.

The Sexual Vortex

The moment that had me truly shaking my head, astounded that it made it past the censors was this exchange in Zhao Yuanzhou's red whirlwind. Maybe someone out there didn't think that Zhao Yuanzhou was talking about sex, specifically getting down on his knees.

Look at how he glances down, a bit shy. This is a demon who has imagined all the ways he can show this stiff demon hunter how being a little evil is a lot of fun. Then his sad look of disappointment when he realizes that Zhou Yichen meant 'acting'.

Good Boys get Head Pats

The iconic head pat. Even in the throes of his murderous rampage, he takes a moment to put Zhou Yichen to 'SLEEP' and then gently pats him on the head. Good boy, I have deliciously evil things to do to you later. However much the malicious energy consumed him, it's so telling that he doesn't actually harm Zhou Yichen.

Bondage Part 1

Zhao Yuanzhou has found his happy place, tied to his two favorite people. Weirdly, not the only time this happens. Bless this team for their dedication to bondage and throuple energy.

When Zhou Yichen missed the group memo, he is extra grumpy. Zhao Yuanzhou confidently scrambles back to the rest of the group when his apology is rejected. The boyfriend is going to need breakfast in bed and maybe a few rounds of ZYZ on his knees doing what he does best.

I saved this for last only because it broke my heart.

This show never stopped pulling at my heartstrings. Look at the utter devastation on Zhao Yuanzhou's face that in order to kill the villain he's going to have to sacrifice Zhou Yichen, too. This was never part of the bargain.
