Muddy Waters at Pepper’s in 1963
A great photo from George Mitchell’s collection.
In honor of Muddy Waters’ Birthday, Here is one of my prized possessions. Picture taken of Muddy by the polaroid photographer for Pepper’s Lounge in 1963. She asked if I wanted my picture taken, and I asked her to see if Muddy would pose for her instead. He kindly agreed. So here is a photograph of Muddy Waters that no one (with the exception of blues enthusiasts visiting me) has ever seen.
At that time, Pepper’s Lounge was where Muddy played every weekend, so it was there I went almost every weekend when I lived and worked in Chicago in 1963.

Toronzo Cannon Interview on Blues and News (It’s great!)
[Listen on BluesAndNews.com]
Find two hours and enjoy this interview with Toronzo Cannon on Blues and News with Brother Jacob. Originally broadcast March 5, 2017 on UIC Radio at UICRadio.org.
This may go down as one of my most funniest and entertaining shows. Today, I interviewed my good friend and Alligator Recording Artist, Toronzo Cannon. We talked about his upbringing, experience on the Blues Scene, musical influences and more. —Brother Jacob Schulz

Mississippi Fred McDowell in “Shake ’em On Down” [video]
From the PBS series Reel South:
Shake ’em On Down is the story of Fred McDowell, the godfather of the North Mississippi style of blues. Through interviews and never-before-seen footage of Fred McDowell and other blues legends, the film tells the story of a Mississippi sharecropper who went on to influence the music of the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, RL Burnside, Taj Mahal and the North Mississippi All Stars.

Jazz Record Mart relocating or...?
“The rent is killing us,” said Bob Koester, 83, owner of the famous shop at 27 E. Illinois St.
“I want to die with the store. But it’s either phase it out or sell it. Phasing it out is not easy. Know anyone who wants to buy a record store?”
Chicago Tribune story by Howard Reich.
Ugh.
