Finished drawing of David Castañeda as Diego Hargreeves in the Umbrella Academy. Thank you all for your kind comments and reblogs of my WIP sketch. I finished this one today, and let me just say... it's dedicated to everyone joining the tuamre and suffering those final two episodes. You all are stronger than me to rewatch it. (Though I did very much enjoy being a part of it the last two times! Someday I'll get there.) I spent so long on the hair on this one, it was just always looking too wispy or not long enough, but finally I'm mostly happy with it. I really loved Diego's scars, it's a shame they never got a cool backstory (before they were erased for no good reason)! Included some progression drawings to show my process that is very... very not digital, with the exception of my signature that I superimpose... because I never like signing my actual drawings. Anyway, thank you! Love you all. Love Diego. Never going to stop. Traditional graphite on 5x7 paper.

Maybe the Commission needed this to be his origin story and picked off any stragglers?? They were really committed to having their apocalypse happen, I’m sure something could have been lost in translation.

Five surely couldn’t have been the only person to survive the apocalypse? Like the world doesn’t look too awful. It looks like a lot of books survived. Five mentioned a wine cellar being untouched. Surely someone could have made it through?

Just a quick little sketch of David Castañeda as Diego Hargreeves (the Umbrella Academy). Beautiful brown-eyed man who has never done anything wrong in his entire life. Traditional graphite on 5x7 paper. I'll post the finished drawing when it's done, but I know some people enjoy WIPs. (In another timeline I did a portrait of every sibling after s4, but instead I'm just slowly recovering and finding I still adore this cast. Fight me about it I guess!)

Don't you think several key elements of ben's plot in S4 should have been five's plot? Like getting out of jail (or juvie) at the beginning (obviously for a different crime) but most of all that five would be the one who wanted his powers back so badly. We all know that without them five would feel completely inadequate and for him it is what has always bound them together as a family. obviously there would be shame in the desire, the dilemma that having them means putting the world at risk.

So my original idea about all this is that in S4 everyone would get their powers back out of nowhere and it would become a prolonged mystery (half a season) of how it happened. later everyone would be surprised to find out that it was five, who was actively looking for the marigold and gave it back to them without even discussing it.

Ben's excuse for sharing the marigold is just ridiculous, with how selfish he is and how disconnected he feels from everyone. And the fact that he did it without permission brings nothing, no depth, no real conflict, no moral ambiguity, like we all already know he's an idiot and he doesn't care about them.

Exciting news, I bought a new pencil! I've been curious about rOtring mechanical pencils for ages and when it went on sale, well... I had to test it out by drawing Audrey Hepburn from Sabrina (the original 1954 version with Humphrey Bogart - which btw, Sabrina you deserved better!). This pencil is everything I wanted it to be. The lead is darker and smudges less, but also it just feels nice. This took much less time than it usually does for me, so I like it! Traditional graphite on 5x7 paper.

I am a hair's breadth away from making it my own personal headcanon that the reason everyone was acting so wildly out of character in s4 of TUA is because in s4 we switched to following a whole new set of siblings in one of the other universes (and the writers forgot to tell us).

And these are versions of the characters who had some similar, but not the same experiences, different relationships to each other, etc.

Seriously - it solves a pretty sizable amount of the issues with season 4.

personally i’m a fan of when a story is like. the love was there. unfortunately. this all could have actually gone a lot easier for everyone if the love hadn’t been there but here we are

I stand by my headcanon that s4 Five was on s1 Viktor’s drugs and lost his entire personality because of it. Maybe the drugs fell through the blending timelines while he was having a rough time, he saw Viktor’s name on the bottle and thought “might as well see what that’s about.”

Second coping theory of them all being different siblings from one of the splintered timelines is also accepted.

I'm still standing on my, season 4 Five was a different man, hill. When Reggie set up the new timeline and Allison hit the button, Five changed into the person they thought he was, not the one he actually was. And that's why he's so out of character.

Which could explain other things?

Luther didn't continue searching for Sloane as long as he lived, and you all know he would've, but Allison didn't want that.

Why wouldn't Diego be working in crime prevention again? He was all about that shit before. And he and Lila having marriage problems? Nope, they were seemingly assholes sometimes but that was deep deep love and perhaps misunderstood by others?
