A nude man on a moped leading the police on a high speed chase after sticking up a Krystal's? Well according to @westbrookbrewingco of South Carolina, it's an Imperial Berliner Weisse that includes: dragonfruit, passion fruit, mango, pineapple, pink guava, key lime, tangerine, toasted coconut, marshmallows, and a bit of milk sugar to give it a creamy mouthfeel. That sounds like a lot, and this is a complex but easy-drinking (6% ABV) BW with just the right amount of tartness. If you've ever wanted a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with an adult twist, here you go. Another delivery from @tavour is this fruit beer from @urbanartifactbeer in Cincinnati, made with roasted peanuts, bananas, and concord grapes. I didn't get much a banana here, which I'm ok with, but when I tell you that they *nailed* the flavor of a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich, I mean they absolutely nailed it. A moderate amount of tartness on the end, and the 8.5% ABV barely registers in the taste. In case you didn't know, @livefromphiladelphia & I have been homebrewing for a bit. Our latest concoction, and the one we're most proud of, is a Kolsch. It's a little darker than your average Kolsch (thanks, Maillard reaction!), but it tastes damn good, if I say so myself. We made 5 total gallons, 3 of which were the standard Kolsch, one gallon with crystallized ginger, and another gallon with ginger and lemongrass. To make it Philly as all hell, we named it "ESK, What the Hell Does That Mean?" (points if you get the reference, and even more points if you're one of the 5 or so people who know what ESK means). Looking forward to having more people sample this homemade brew once the quarantines have been lifted. What else to do when you're socially distancing aside from binge Netflix and drink? This is an interesting smoked double IPA brewed as a collaboration between two amazing breweries - @tiredhandsbrewing x @stillwater_artisanal. This DIPA is aged on smoked cedar and has a dank, hoppy and smoky (duh) character with a little citrus sweetness to balance things out, and sits at a respectable 8% ABV. If you're looking for something a little different, this is absolutely worth checking out. Trendiness be damned, Milkshake IPAs are extremely my jam. For those who don't know, a milkshake IPA is brewed with milk sugar, commonly known as lactose. Lactose doesn't turn to alcohol in the brewing process, instead adding a sweetness and a creamy texture. Done right, milkshake IPAs can be absolutely amazing and incredibly versatile, and today's beer -- Kickin' Knowledge Banana Split by @barrierbrewingco, is a fantastic example of this art form done right. Aromas include hops with a nice light banana and coconut kick. Where the banana, coconut and vanilla really shine is up front, eventually giving way to the mosaic, motueka & citra hop flavors. Overall an excellent beer, and I'm looking forward to trying the toasted coconut variety next! Today's haul from the folks at @pasquallys in West Philly: Write Drunk, Edit Sober by @fatorangecatbrewco - named after a great Ernest Hemingway quote, this NEIPA clocks in at 7.2% ABV. Currently rated 90/100 at @beeradvocate . Also by Fat Orange Cat, Sweet Jane with Strawberry. A milkshake IPA (an IPA brewed with milk sugar), I've already enjoyed this one. Creamy strawberry and vanilla, smooth but but not overly sweet. 7.3% Next time I have a rough day I'm reaching for this @capemaybrewco Snag & Drop Triple IPA. 10% ABV, and the can says it all -- dank & resinous. Shout out to New Jersey! @decadentales is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, and I had to grab this Orange Cream Pop IPA, brewed with vanilla extract and orange puree. I loved the Apple Crumb Cake IPA I had of theirs, and I have high hopes for this one as well. 8/6% ABV and a 91 on Beer Advocate. Finally, two variations on the Kickin' Knowledge series from @barrierbrewingco -- Banana Split and Toasted Coconut. A nice haul from @pasquallys here in West Philly. From L to R: Plain Chicken Nuggets by @stickmanbrews, a 5.5% Pale Ale. Orange Chocolate Blonde Ale by @ellicottvillebrewing, made with @platterschocolates. The name gives away the style, and it clocks in at 7.1% ABV. That fantastic can art third from the left is Animal Magnetism, a collaboration with @finbackbrewery. A 8.1% Double IPA hopped with Galaxy and Mosaic. Visited the good folks at @lovecitybrewing today (had to go back to finally get that @untappd badge 😁) and grabbed a flight. Starting at the left and going counter-clockwise to the top, Included here is: 1. Obscura, a 4.8% Munich Dunkel style beer. Chocolatey and nutty, malty and smooth. 👍 2. Viaduct, an American Pale Ale with a 5.2% ABV that's bitter and piney through and through with a minor touch of citrus at the back end. 3. Sylvie, Love City's flagship Stout. A roasty Oatmeal Stout with some coffee characteristics, clocking in at 5 percent. 4. Totally Wired, a malty English Brown Ale with a ton of coffee on the nose and even more on the palate.
