Todoroki thats not your word!

“Todoroki!” Deku called out ask he ran down the halls of the hospital.

He stopped to catch his breath, not realizing just how exhausted his body was. After their fight with the Hero Killer - Stain - Todoroki, Iida, and him had been given doctor’s orders to stay in the hospital for a few more days. It was a good chance to learn more about his fellow classmates, but there was something that kept bothering him.

“Hm? What is it?” Todoroki’s demeanor was, per usual, calm, cool, cold.

“Well, I’ve been meaning to ask you something. But umm…” Deku looked around, hospital visitors milled about, probably people visiting sick loved ones. “Maybe we should talk in private.”

Todoroki followed him back to their hospital room. Iida would be at physical therapy for his arm for about the next hour. It would be the best place to talk.

“Well, go on, what is it?” Todoroki insisted the moment the door was closed.

Suddenly, Deku’s mouth felt dry. This was so embarrassing! How could he even think to bring up something like this…no, he had to. This is what Hero’s do!

“Todoroki…earlier, when the police chief was here…some choice language was used.” Deku’s voice wavered. His nerves were showing.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean…a lot of things were said that maybe not everyone meant.” Deku could feel pressure building in his chest. Frustration.

“I don’t recall. Was someone lying?”

Oh dear god. Deku forgot he’s stupid. Maybe it would be better to be blunt. “No, Todoroki. You called the Police Chief…a mutt…”

Silence filled the room. Todoroki just stared at him, as if he was looking at a blank wall.

“Yeah. He’s a mutt.” - so nonchalant!

“Todoroki! You can’t use that word!”

“Why?”

“That’s a slur! You can’t go around just saying slurs all day.”

“My dad does.”

Deku rubbed his face with his hands. Why was he so fucking dense?

“Well…he shouldn’t either-“

“Good luck telling him that.” - sarcasm.

“….either way….stop…stop saying slurs to people with mutant quirks. It’s just not nice.”

“So?”

Jesus Christ it never ends. “Don’t you want to be nice to people?”

“I don’t really care.”

Deku’s paused for a moment. Then suddenly he got an idea.

“People will think you’re a better hero than your dad if you don’t say them.”

He could see a glint of understand in Todoroki’s eyes. Finally, he got through to him.

“Ok. I think I get it now.”

Deku sighed.

“Even though I think that’s retarded.”
