Okay, so now that I've had some time to settle down and process the finale, I need to rant.

Here is my list of some of the many issues I have with the finale episode:

1. Why bring Archie Panjabi in as the Rani if you're going to kill her off (in the most boring way) within like 20 minutes of the episode

2. Why bring back Omega if you're going to elimate the threat of his prescence within like 20 minutes of the episode

3. Why does Omega want to eat the timelords?? All three, maybe four if the Master is corporeal by now??? Lame ass motivation

4. Belinda Chandra - critical of the Doctor, wary of how dangerous he can be, unappreciative of the fact that he would scan her without her consent doesn't have any issues with suddenly having a child with him

5. Belinda is okay with living in the conservative's wet dream alternate reality (and by extension forcing everyone else to stay in this reality) so long as it means her fake-ass baby gets to live

6. Just the fact that 90% of the episode is focused on this fake-ass baby that I don't give a fuck about and not on any of the Gallifreyan lore/conflict that they spent so long building up. I was really excited to see an episode where the Rani builds a twisted new Gallifrey and is consumed with the desire to bring the time lords back, but no

7. The fact that the Doctor, who was once critical of Rose for being attached to her fake alternate reality dad, is now attached to his fake alternate reality offspring?

8. Locking Belinda in a box for the climax of the episode??

9. Did they lobotomise Belinda in the alternate reality? Why is the outspoken, critical of being called 'miss' companion just now okay with being reduced to mother and damsel?

10. Why did Anita have to be in love with the Doctor

11. Also, I already knew this was a strong possibility but no Susan

12. Furthermore, no Rogue (not that I'm too invested in him, but still why did he need to appear in Wish World if he doesn't play a part in Reality War or even get a mention)

13. Belinda and the Doctor making plans to travel in front of Ruby, not invite her and just leave her there??? Why is the Doctor the worst friend ever

14. Just the fact that Ruby can't catch a fucking break. She's already been gaslight in another alternate reality, she's had an evil podcast boyfriend and now she's being gaslight again and excludes by her 'friend'

15. The Doctor and Belinda being really OOC and gaslighting Ruby rather than being normal and asking "are you okay babes?"

16. Belinda Chandra - (I can't empasize this enough) critical of the Doctor, wary of how dangerous he can be, unappreciative of the fact that he would scan her without her consent has her whole life rewritten (without her knowledge!!) just so that the Doctor's fake baby can exist

17. The fact that Ncuti got 2 seasons with only 8 episodes each but is now leaving

18. Just a general season 1 and 2 gripe of mine... but it feels like the Doctor Who team don't have much confidence that they can make something great, original and new so they hinge on nostalgia and reliving the glory days. Mentioning Blink, doing a Midnight sequel, every second episode reusing clips/images of previous Doctors... it feels like the show is living in the past and can't evolve past that

19. And this minor gripe of mine is cemented with the 16th Doctor... don't get me wrong I love Billie but I really wanted the show to just go in a whole new direction, maybe cast someone unknown as the new Doctor. It's just frustrating to feel like the show has hit a slump and we're stuck in this loop of having call backs to seasons past

Honorable Mention: no Master and now no SpyGatwa for Season 3 :/

something I find really fascinating and heartbreaking and also not really talkes about is how different (OR ARE THEY) the master's disguises are to himself.

I present to you professor Yana - a delightful, optimistic, endlessly kind old man, fascinated with creativity, hope and science, sounds familiar? pretty similar with the doctor, isn't it?

and if you know the big finish audio story "master", the master ends up AGAIN as a human with no memories or recollection of what he is. and what does he do? he takes the name John Smith and becomes a doctor and is described by his friends as the "kindest man". he's gentle and he worries about his friends and, self-described, even if totally fascinated by the prospect of death and evil, couldn't actually harm anyone.

and O - yes, I know he was actively tricking the doctor then, bear with me - he was so cute and eager to please and happy to be there and nice to people.

simm!master was a little shit in every way, but he ended up saving the doctor.

and we all cried over missy long enough (as is proper).

I just think of how the doctor is right, that deep down, when it comes to it, the master IS his best, oldest friend. soulmates in every way, in every reincarnation, in any combination.

to quote oscar wilde, "give a man a mask and he'll tell you the truth". it's truly infinitely fascinating and borderline tragic how, everytime he acts (voluntarily or not) as someone else, the master is so strikingly a copy of all the goodness in the doctor.
