In May’s defense, she totally did not mean to turn it into a whole thing. “Oh, great, here comes the stunt brigade,” Chimney shouted over her shoulder.

May turned and saw Buck and Eddie walking out of the patio door, shaking their heads but clearly happy to see Chim doing the whole dorky dad “Who let this guy in?” schtick. There was someone else behind them, barely visible behind a ludicrously tall stack of beer cases. Eddie was holding a singular bottle of tequila, and Buck was carrying two of his famous iced lemon loaves in one hand.

“Where should I put these down?” Came a somewhat desperate call from behind the beer.

May stood up from her crouch and put her hands on her hips.

“What is wrong with you two? Help him!”

Buck and Eddie looked behind them, and then back at her, blinking in their scary, psychic tandem.

“What? Rav’s got it, right, Ravi?” Buck said.

“Yeah, he said he’d get the beer,” Eddie said, like he seriously didn’t see the issue at hand.

“You guys parked halfway down the street, and these cases weigh like sixty pounds!” Ravi shouted, indignant now.

“There’s a cooler to your left, right by the door, they’ll be fine there,” May said, glaring at them.

“Thank God,” Ravi said, and set them down with a deep squat. Buck and Eddie turned around to look at his ass as he did so. Jerks, she thought, with no small degree of affection. It was a very nice ass.
