As we age, it’s important to keep our minds and bodies healthy. Our mental and emotional health can impact our physical health, so it’s important to take care of ourselves both physically and mentally. Here are some tips to help you stay mentally and emotionally healthy as you age by fitness professionals for over50:
Get regular exercise. Exercise not only helps your body, but it also benefits your brain. A recent study found that people who exercise regularly have a lower risk of developing dementia.
Stay connected. Social connection is important for our mental health. Make sure to stay in touch with family and friends, and join social or community groups if you can.
Challenge your mind. Keeping your mind active and engaged will help keep it healthy as you age. Do crossword puzzles, Sudoku, or try learning a new skill or hobby.
Be positive. A positive outlook on life has been linked with better health and a longer lifespan. Try to focus on the good in your life, and find ways to cope with stress in a positive way.
