Gina, I noticed the same thing—that he doesn’t wear nail polish anymore. My theory is that during this break, he just wanted to take a bit of distance from everything that comes with HS™. I’m not saying that’s no longer a part of who he is, but I think after all the overexposure in the past few years, he’s kind of retreated into himself a bit and gone for a more quiet vibe. Everyone associates him with glitter, painted nails, bold colors, etc.—and yeah, that is part of him—but I feel like during this break, he wanted to step back from a lot of that.

You could be right. I think he’s always less flamboyant when he’s not on stage. But for a while he was wearing nail polish all the time. One thing I notice about him is that he tends to move on when things he’s doing/wearing become part of popular culture. Like his pearls. Or the ultra wide pants. And he doesn’t seem to repeat things. Like his bandana era. Or his fedoras.

So, it’ll be interesting to see if he goes back to sparkles and polish, or if HS4 era will be something totally different.
