It is perhaps more difficult to choose a comfortable blanket for the hot season than the winter version
On cool days, it should warm, but at the same time “breathe”, be light and undemanding in care.
The size
The length of the blanket should exceed your height by at least 40 cm, and the width, if you like to wrap it, be at least 135 cm. Sometimes the dimensions of the blanket are associated with the parameters of the bed: it should be wider than it by half a meter. A 180 cm wide product is considered double, but it may not be comfortable enough for two. A more suitable width for a double model is 200–220 cm. On sale you can often find the following size options: a blanket for one - 140x205 cm, for two - 172x205 cm, European standard - 205x220 cm.
Material
Which is cheaper? There are light blankets made of synthetic fibers and natural - plant and animal origin. It is generally accepted that the cheapest option is synthetics, followed by cotton, wool, and the most expensive is silk. However, this is not entirely true - the price depends not only on the type of material, but also on the features of its manufacture. So, a summer blanket made of high-quality artificial fiber will cost more than coarse wool (sometimes recycled wool is also called 100% wool). Material properties
Models made from natural fibers. Lightweight, durable, perfectly pass air, providing heat transfer, absorb moisture and quickly evaporate it, which is important on hot nights, and also valuable for people with increased sweating. Such blankets can often be washed at high temperatures (in the "boiling" mode), wring out, iron. Light blankets often have a beautiful pattern, and they can be used instead of a bedspread.
Cotton. A double-sided summer blanket is called a jacquard, reminiscent of a towel - a terry sheet. The bike blankets are so soft that they dont need a duvet cover.
Lyocell. This is eucalyptus fiber. Eucalyptus has antibacterial properties, normalizes breathing problems, so a product made of lyocell is the best suited for asthmatics. It can be washed, just like cotton. For the manufacture of anti-allergenic blankets, innovative artificial materials and lyocell, an environmentally friendly material from eucalyptus cellulose, are used.
Wool. Warmer than cotton. Material perfectly "breathes", hygroscopic. Light wool blankets are recommended for osteochondrosis, orthopedic, rheumatic, bronchial diseases. But the wool can not be washed often, in addition, it can cause allergies. Camel blankets are warmer than sheep’s, so they are made thinner and therefore lighter. The best woolen blankets are from the fluff of the Kashmir goat, the thinnest and very soft.
Silk. It provides air circulation, regulates humidity and temperature under the covers, prevents the development of fungi and microorganisms, dust mites, does not cause allergies. Suitable for asthma sufferers, diseases of the cardiovascular system, skin, joints. Silk and wool blankets are not only beautiful - due to the natural qualities of the material, they have a healing effect on the body.
Models made of synthetic fibers. Wear-resistant, hypoallergenic, loose filler perfectly allows air to pass through and allows moisture to evaporate. The disadvantage is well known: synthetics are electrified.
Polyester. The most popular synthetic material. It can be washed at any temperature.
Hollofiber. Recent invention. Hollofiber is an artificial filler and insulation, consisting of hollow twisted polyester fibers. It does not absorb odors, dust, it can be washed in cold water. The innovative filler and insulation - holofiber - has new useful qualities: for example, it does not absorb odors and dust.
Marking
By heat capacity. The thermal insulation characteristics of the blanket depend not only on the type of material, but also on its thickness (there are thin down models for use in the summer). Therefore, manufacturers usually label products, designating them as light (summer), medium (all-weather) and warm (winter). Some manufacturers offer their markings: the summer light model - Q or SD, for cool nights - QQ or WD (there is more filler, the blankets are a bit thicker) and the winter version is QQQ or GD.
