Why do you shy from the camera sir? Please show us that lovely face. This red-spotted toad [Anaxyrus punctatus] was found near a creek in Teringua, Texas. These toads max out at just 3 inches in body length, and are often mistaken for small stones in their preferred riverbed habitats. Images by Jay Murter.

I sort of love how mergansers have “teeth” of sorts just because said “teeth” are helpful for gripping their prey. The only bird truly able to brush its teeth
