#BoiseState student Elena Gallina has been named a Rhodes Scholar finalist. The Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest and most celebrated international fellowship awards in the world. Applicants come from more than 320 American colleges and universities. Elena, who will graduate in May 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Boise State Multidisciplinary Studies a minor in Arabic studies, is passionate about changing the way international governing bodies respond to disaster and the post-conflict reconstruction process. Growing up the child of humanitarian aid workers in the aftermath of the Balkan wars, she witnessed first-hand the ill effects mishandled aid can have on society and the ways in which communities struggle to recover from disaster. She plans to pursue graduate degrees in public policy and international development, eventually working to uncover how to best modify systems to mitigate violence against women in the midst of conflict. #rhodesscholar http://ift.tt/2hHKwjz

#BoiseState alumna Ann Delaney (BS, MS, materials science and engineering, '14, '16), director of the SAGE Scholars program at Boise State, recently was selected by @uifellows as one of 23 leaders for the program’s Silicon Valley Meetup. Ann was hand-selected out of an international community of more than 1,200 Fellows for the impact she has had at Boise State and for her contributions to the movement. At the event, she will represent Boise State in front of 300 student and faculty attendees from 82 universities and colleges around the world. The University Innovation Fellows program is a global program run by the Hasso Plattner institute Of Design @Stanford that empowers student leaders to increase campus engagement with innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and design thinking. @BSUBiology associate professor Jennifer Forbey spent four months in Sweden and Norway studying the co-evolutionary relationship between plants and herbivores in an effort to speed the discovery of new and more effective drugs to treat diseases, particularly those that have developed multi-drug resistance. The Arts and Humanities Institute at Boise State University presents “Designing for Television: An Evening with Schuyler Telleen” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the Recital Hall at The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts. Telleen has been a graphic designer and production designer on Portlandia for seven seasons. While on campus today, Telleen met with undergraduate students from theatre arts, film production and art.
