spock’s room decor is actually fucking bonkers. The weapons??? the big red velvet curtain??? like ok phantom of the opera go crazy.

for reference jim’s room has some photos and a plant so we can surmise this is uniquely a spock being a dramatic weirdo thing

Watching TikTok try and rewrite fandom history by saying fandom culture was created by teenage girls makes me eye twitch to an extent I’ve never felt it twitch before. The middle aged women printing out Spirk erotica to share with each other in the 1900s did not die for this!!!! How dare you erase our important historic moments!!! You would be nowhere without the 30 year old women who dedicated their free time to making these spaces happen. Put some respect on their names!!!!

gonna be cringe for a sec, but writing gay star trek fanfiction feels like such a big deal to me. here i am, participating in a tradition dating back to the 60s. a tradition thats shaped millions of real lives and changed the way we engage with media forever.
the invention of fanfiction has resulted in friendships and marriages, people moving across the planet to meet likeminded individuals. the fabric of our world changed because of how hard people loved star trek, a show that very nearly did not happen.
i've never cared for my own family history or tradition very much, but feeling connected to those first fanfic writers through my own fic writing is so bizarrely wonderful.
i hope we keep writing gay star trek fanfiction long after we make our own trek through the stars.

STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS // S5E10 The Next New Generation You know why Boimler's weird death-faking clone sent that cosmic wave at us? Because he knew we kick ass. And I'm not just talking about the five of us. The whole Cerritos crew is stacked with amazing officers. Yeah, there's a lot of ships in the fleet which are bigger, fancier, they have engineering sections that are attached to the main part of the ship. And honestly, those crews are way more professional. Hey, I should know, I've been kicked out of half of 'em. But this thing we do doesn't require perfection. We're explorers. We live for the unknown. You can't prepare for that. Nobody on the Cerritos is even close to perfect. We're a mishmash of people and various creatures that don't fit in anywhere else. But we're a family. That's why I love it here. We believe in the mission and in each other.
