This week's guest on The Front Row with Anupama Chopra is Priyanka Chopra. She discusses multitasking, the death of her father, and her budding singing career.

Losing my father wasn't just losing my dad, it was...it was, um, I don't know, losing a part of me. I don't know if every daughter is that close to her father as I was. My dad was my best friend, my idol, my protector. [...] So I went back to work because that was my only solace and I haven't stopped since and I don't think I will.

Anupama Chopra also introduced a new segment on the show, Access Pass. This week she was on the set of Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha's upcoming R... Rajkumar.

Extreme diets really a necessity?

Baradwaj Rangan has a great think piece in The Hindu about the value of the perfectly sculpted body in Bollywood films.

It’s just a glamorous selling point on posters and glossy magazine covers, and the actors get to add a bit of “credibility” to their process by saying things like “I gave up gulab jamuns and gnawed a strip of chicken for eight months, and also woke up at 5 a.m. and spent five hours at the gym” — what’s left unsaid is “so please, please like me, and like my performance.” Perhaps there’s some subtext here. Perhaps, in the absence of a solid character, these actors seek solidity in other, superficial ways.

Koffee with Karan returns December 1, 2013

Watch the promotional video for the return of Koffee with Karan on YouTube. The infamous talk show will most likely continue its tradition of controversial interviews, not least of which includes the Rapid Fire round where Karan encourages celebrities to call out, gossip and bitch about, and rank in order of sex appeal, their fellow industry co-stars. We can’t wait to see what the next season brings! In the mean time here are some great interviews from last season:

Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor: Padukone encourages ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor to endorse a condom brand, while Kapoor calls out actresses for not being as fashion forward as herself and getting too much plastic surgery, and lambasts movie critics for doing their job.

The Front Row with Anupama Chopra – November 1, 2013

This week’s guests on The Front Row with Anupama Chopra were Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, who sat down to talk about their new film Ram-Leela, working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and the many rumors that the two are dating (which they didn’t dodge too gracefully). On working with Ranveer, Deepika says:

There’s no thought or worry, or how am I going to look, or how am I going to do this, or will I look silly doing it? There’s no…he just gives, you know? And when I say uninhibited, not only in terms of his performance and what he is as an actor but even as a co-star. Like, he’s all there. You need him to give cues, you need him to stand there for eye-line, or you just need his energy on set. He’s there, you know? And he’s definitely like the most giving, and like, supportive co-star I’ve worked with.

She would also like people to take away a feeling of love from the movie. “I think in today, in the kind of lives that we lead, that’s so, um, consuming… You watch a movie and you come out feeling…feeling love, you know? Feeling pure, feeling beautiful.”

The highly anticipated trailer for Dhoom 3 has been released. While the first two Dhoom movies were big on effects and stunts rather than story, the addition of Aamir Khan might make this the first film in the Dhoom franchise with excellence in both.

Priyanka Chopra to be Guess brand’s first Indian model

HuffPo reports that Priyanka Chopra has been selected to become Guess’s first Indian model.

Chopra said she was hand-selected by Paul Marciano, Guess’ president, after he met her and immediately dubbed her the new Sophia Loren. Since Marciano’s last model of choice, Kate Upton, has become the poster child for glamorous bombshell beauty, we have no doubt that Chopra will be the name on everybody’s lips come December when her Guess campaign breaks in fashion magazines.

“I’m not too American and I’m not too Indian, but I’m a global citizen,” she says, “and that’s what most people are today. And I don’t want to have to change who I am to try and fit in or cater to a certain audience.”

New on DVD November 4, 2013: Week of flops

Satyagraha, Besharam, and Phata Poster Nikhla Hero will be released on DVD November 4, 2013. All films were met with mostly negative reviews and flopped. They didn’t last very long in theaters either: Besharam, one of Ranbir Kapoor’s first truly awful film choices, was just released on October 2, and Phata Poster, Shahid Kapoor’s comeback in a comedy role, was released on September 20. All three films scored below average at the box office.

Shaadi Ke Side Effects Trailer

The trailer for Shaadi Ke Side Effects featuring Vidya Balan and Faran Akhtar is out. This film is a sequel to the movie Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006), and is set to be released February 14, 2014. We’re big fans of both lead actors, but so far the film looks riddled with cliches.
