ex online friend lady (who was mid 20s when i was a teen and we were “best friends”) from online who is no longer in my life is actively listening to melanie martinez in 2024 imckskdsjdjsjdjsjdjsjxjdjdjd
dress and the alchemy feel kind of similar to me - both seem to be telling a story of finding love during/after a dark period, although the alchemy is fun because it's about winning her rather than the other way around.
My one and only, my lifeline
I woke up just in time
Now I wake up by your side
My hands shake, I can't explain this
Baby I'm the one to beat
Cause the sign on your heart
Said it's still reserved for me
Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?
they both completely "match" the sound of their albums. but somehow dress stands out more in rep than the alchemy does in ttpd.
Idk I feel like the alchemy plays a strong narrative role for the story on the main album. It is for all intents and purposes, treacherous. SHS is a better song, far more memorable, but idk I feel like it would be jarring on the main album.
i don't mean it feels like a main track on ttpd (although i think it's jarring sound could easily tell its own story), i think it just sounds like a main track, period. like @maryoliveoil said in the tags, the main track on another album, perhaps! the alchemy is a good song, but it gets lost - it is, imo, so sonically and thematically similar to other tracks on the album that it struggles to stand out. if the song truly is about seeking out a new lover, coming back after intense heartbreak, and so on, i would've chosen something punchier or unique to get that across.
but yes taylor made her choices on purpose, i know i know.
