Gaza is already the most intense starvation catastrophe of recent decades. The death toll from hunger and disease may soon surpass the body count from bombs and bullets. The Famine Review Committee reported this week that Gaza is facing “imminent famine”. The Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) system, set up 20 years ago, provides the most authoritative assessments of humanitarian crises. Its figures for Gaza are the worst ever by any metric. It estimates that 677,000 people, or 32% of all Gazans, are in “catastrophic” conditions today and a further 41% are in “emergency” conditions. It expects fully half of Gazans, more than 1 million people, to be in “catastrophe” or “famine” within weeks. A parallel report from the Famine Early Warning System Network of the US Agency for International Development sounds the same alarm. It is the clearest warning that the network has given at any time in its 40-year history. A rule of thumb is that “catastrophe” or “famine” conditions mean a daily death rate from from hunger or disease of two people out of 10,000. About half are children under five years old. The arithmetic is simple. For a population of 1 million, that is 200 deaths per day, 6,000 per month.

ELDO Fils De Dieu
Tried Fils De Dieu for the first time today and it's very interesting! Listed notes: Lime, ginger, coriander leaves, coconut JE, rice, shiso, bergamot, vetiver, castoreum, musk, amber, leather
The topnotes are very realistic lime, coriander, and lemongrass. Not much ginger to me, but I don't usually read fresh ginger notes as ginger. It quickly gives way to a more abstracted round and powdery jasmine heart with coconut milk and rice powder around the edges. The jasmine smells crushed and boiled. There's something reminiscent of lotion or soap about it, though I wouldn't say it's aldehydic-soapy. This stage lasts for a few hours and feels like it constantly shifts in emphasis. There are peeks of leather and something cool and metallic through the powder. At about 2 hours in, it's a jasmine-tinged musky vanilla and coconut milk pudding, smooth and rich in texture. At about 4 hours, it's a musky spiced amber, on the smooth and thin side and not particularly round, rich, or chewy. Despite many people saying this smells like a savory curry, this is on the mildly sweet side to me, and its aromatic notes don't read savory.
I've seen this compared to Shalimar, and it does have the bright and cacophonous topnotes over a powdery amber-vanilla base. What defines Shalimar to me, however, is the sheer thickness of it. Shalimar really smacks you over the head, whereas Fils de Dieu is characterful but not insistent in the same way. Not to mention the crazy smoke and rubber aspect of Shalimar, which Fils de Dieu's unusual but friendly heart notes don't compare to. The mood is very different. (By the by, the milky and round jasmine reminds me a lot of Mitsouko EDP!)
I really enjoyed testing this one. It's cheerful and has a lot going on. I wish those lovely topnotes lasted longer, though I know that citrus and herbs famously do not. I also wish the rice was stronger, more realistic, and steam-damp instead of powdery. I wouldn't mind a more realistic coconut milk note either. I truly thought I would smell more literally of curry. I have to spend more time with this to discover how I feel about it, but I'm at least intrigued.

Opinion Here’s how to get free Paxlovid as many times as you need it
When the public health emergency around covid-19 ended, vaccines and treatments became commercial products, meaning companies could charge for them as they do other pharmaceuticals. Paxlovid, the highly effective antiviral pill that can prevent covid from becoming severe, now has a list price of nearly $1,400 for a five-day treatment course.
Thanks to an innovative agreement between the Biden administration and the drug’s manufacturer, Pfizer, Americans can still access the medication free or at very low cost through a program called Paxcess. The problem is that too few people — including pharmacists — are aware of it.
I learned of Paxcess only after readers wrote that pharmacies were charging them hundreds of dollars — or even the full list price — to fill their Paxlovid prescription. This shouldn’t be happening. A representative from Pfizer, which runs the program, explained to me that patients on Medicare and Medicaid or who are uninsured should get free Paxlovid. They need to sign up by going to paxlovid.iassist.com or by calling 877-219-7225. “We wanted to make enrollment as easy and as quick as possible,” the representative said.
Indeed, the process is straightforward. I clicked through the web form myself, and there are only three sets of information required. Patients first enter their name, date of birth and address. They then input their prescriber’s name and address and select their insurance type.
All this should take less than five minutes and can be done at home or at the pharmacy. A physician or pharmacist can fill it out on behalf of the patient, too. Importantly, this form does not ask for medical history, proof of a positive coronavirus test, income verification, citizenship status or other potentially sensitive and time-consuming information.
But there is one key requirement people need to be aware of: Patients must have a prescription for Paxlovid to start the enrollment process. It is not possible to pre-enroll. (Though, in a sense, people on Medicare or Medicaid are already pre-enrolled.)
Once the questionnaire is complete, the website generates a voucher within seconds. People can print it or email it themselves, and then they can exchange it for a free course of Paxlovid at most pharmacies.
Pfizer’s representative tells me that more than 57,000 pharmacies are contracted to participate in this program, including major chain drugstores such as CVS and Walgreens and large retail chains such as Walmart, Kroger and Costco. For those unable to go in person, a mail-order option is available, too.
The program works a little differently for patients with commercial insurance. Some insurance plans already cover Paxlovid without a co-pay. Anyone who is told there will be a charge should sign up for Paxcess, which would further bring down their co-pay and might even cover the entire cost.
Several readers have attested that Paxcess’s process was fast and seamless. I was also glad to learn that there is basically no limit to the number of times someone could use it. A person who contracts the coronavirus three times in a year could access Paxlovid free or at low cost each time.
Unfortunately, readers informed me of one major glitch: Though the Paxcess voucher is honored when presented, some pharmacies are not offering the program proactively. As a result, many patients are still being charged high co-pays even if they could have gotten the medication at no cost.
This is incredibly frustrating. However, after interviewing multiple people involved in the process, including representatives of major pharmacy chains and Biden administration officials, I believe everyone is sincere in trying to make things right. As we saw in the early days of the coronavirus vaccine rollout, it’s hard to get a new program off the ground. Policies that look good on paper run into multiple barriers during implementation.
Those involved are actively identifying and addressing these problems. For instance, a Walgreens representative explained to me that in addition to educating pharmacists and pharmacy techs about the program, the company learned it also had to make system changes to account for a different workflow. Normally, when pharmacists process a prescription, they inform patients of the co-pay and dispense the medication. But with Paxlovid, the system needs to stop them if there is a co-pay, so they can prompt patients to sign up for Paxcess.
Here is where patients and consumers must take a proactive role. That might not feel fair; after all, if someone is ill, people expect that the system will work to help them. But that’s not our reality. While pharmacies work to fix their system glitches, patients need to be their own best advocates. That means signing up for Paxcess as soon as they receive a Paxlovid prescription and helping spread the word so that others can get the antiviral at little or no cost, too.

Did 2 days at 3.5 and then yesterday at 7. I have definitely been feeling the positive effects of the stimulant but I could not fucking get to sleep until 3 am last night. I took the patch off at 8 pm but that apparently was not sufficient. I’ll finish this round but idt it’s all that helpful for me…sad.
Alright, trying nicotine patches in hopes of improving the postviral fatigue stuff
Day 0 (3/3): Put on a half-blocked patch/3.5 mg for 2 hours and got lightheaded and then took off the patch.
Day 1 (3/4): 1.75 g dose on calf, on in the morning and off at 9 pm. Didn’t notice any effects. Had some chest pain, but that’s been present from the nattoserra anyway. Might have had some trouble sleeping.

Okay I ended up doing 7 total days, on 3.5 for 3 days total and tapering down to 1.75 for another 2 days.
I don’t feel like it really did anything for me? I definitely felt the stimulant effects while actually wearing the patches, but now at 3 days out it doesn’t seem like my baseline has changed much. I had a decent energy week last week, but that’s probably just because I was working less. I’m planning to start another weeklong round and go up to 7 and see how that affects me.

raceplay being the big buzzword in reactionary kink discussion on here is so fascinating when its like, actually normie and widespread on tumblr. its just that nobody acknowledges the ton of "pale classy dignified vampire x collared torn work clothes low impulsive control brown werewolf" lesbian art as depicting the same ideas as raceplay since the fantasy aspect is used to successfully obfuscate the core idea of "superior white person x brown thing in need of control."

hello, trans/nonbinary internet weirdo & shitposter emeritus frog k here. you might know me from my large collection of free fiction, my twitter/tumblr presence for the last few years, possibly my dumb ass tee shirts, etc. i am sorry to have to do this, but i'm kind of at the end of my rope. utilities companies with back bills have been breathing down my neck for a week, and i've been able to secure low-income assistance with the water, but if i don't cough up $317 for the gas bill today (which is charmingly high because we nearly froze to death in the recent winter storm) we're going to wind up without heating. i don't even know what i'm gonna do about food or whatever else. i'm fuckin' desperate. please help. it would mean the world to me. cashapp $asimplefrog ko-fi (paypal redirect) frogk
thank you all so much <3
